Have a look at the loader manual. In it, there are numbers for minimum safe ballast and how much the ballast box will weigh with different types of materials.<br>

Don't be surprised if you end up slinging a thousand pounds or more onto the rear end of that tractor before you achieve real good stability.<br>

Your goal with rear ballast is to first counteract the weight of the empty loader and THEN to counter-balance the load in the loader.

Yeah Mark, the shop just ground one pin sleeve enough so it would fit on the tractor. Now I can get the blade correctly leveled, or even pulled up a bit if necessary. Thanks for your assistance!

I'm going to look at it today. I plan on taking pictures, and get then #'s off the tractor so I can check for leans and ckeck with local police. Making a conditional offer is a good idea. If all looks good I was wondering about the fluids and seals in the tractor because it has been sitting since 2002 and only has 3 hours.

I guess it's the lift rather than the bucket circuit. The leaks sound like a pressure thing but the speed may be a design thing.

Put a big pump along with big valves that have larger ports then heavy loads will drop fast. Sometimes flow restrictors in cylinder lines are used to slow things down but these are some down-sides. Lower engine rpm might help some but then there's likely be some oil cavitation in the cylinders, which wouldn't be much a problem. Some more expensive cylinders have cushioned stops but that wouldn't help stopping loads mid-way.

More 3ph weight might improve stability but if the relief pressure is high then bigger loads can be picked up, which lower faster and have more stability problems. If loads, ballast weight and the relief pressure are in spec and stability remains a problem then I'd expect a factory fix before long. You don't really want to depend on feathering valves to keep from ending up on your nose.

Real good point Art! No direct comparison intended and my main attitude is to avoid envelope pushing.

I think the example was a front pump on one of the bigger 1,000-series tractors but it probably has similar performance to the main pump. Newer pumps do have higher cut-off pressures and higher working pressures. I read an article from the late '70's that I think said piston type pumps have cut-off pressures around 12,000 lbs. If an SAE 4-times burst to working pressure standard was applied then 3,000 lbs. hose likely would withstand pump cut-off but that would for be new hose and hose does deteriorate so it's not something to depend on.

Most of us have lower pressure rotary type pumps but whatever the case I think that good design wouldn't have cylinder hose as the weakest link. Most systems don't have check valves on the cylinder lines. The concept here is that envelope pushing might push performance beyond the intended weakest link. Systems do have pressure spikes so any envelope pushing should be thought of as running some risks.

It seems strange that the numbers from the manufacturers keep showing that the Kubotas share is larger on units sold every year. Must be a lot of pent up demand for newer tractors in a lot of areas! We have run away from the question orginally asked here and that is a comparison of three tractors and really one probably shouldn't be in the group or I would consider it as a different solution to his tractor problem. All three are economy tractors, one with less horsepower then the other and only available in gear drive, one available gear or hydro, sold most in the hydro version and the other only available in a hydro.

Kubota equipment is built to with stand the use that it is designed for. That is a Kubota match and I'd say you shouldn't have to worry at all. I wouldn't!

It will probably take a year or more yet before Deere gets on the band wagon and follows Kubota with a factory rops cab with air conditioning and a good package of ammenities. They may even use an exclusive aftermarket cab provider like Sims who has experience with that style cab. After all how long did Kubota have the market to itself with the commercial line of small loader backhoes. Local dealers have been telling customers next year for about three to four years so they are working on it.

Might be normal if it has turf tires with low pressures and no weight on the 3ph--especially if there was a load in the bucket. You might say what the circumstances were and somebody who knows the tractor can say if it sounds normal or not. The description is basically how my Ford 1710 PS is and I've never been certain if it's normal for a puny mid-80's PS design or if it's gotten gimpy over the years.

TC's are sort of cousins of my 1710. My PS steering runs from a priority valve on the main pump. Separate PS pumps are better and I don't know if 17 or 1920's, which may be more like your TC, had separate pumps. You can tell if you look at the pump. If there's a small steel line coming off the lower part of the pump above the outlet pipe then it has a priority valve. The small steel line goes to the steering sector. This type PS isn't particularly strong and needs help from ballast.

Always good when barn yard repairs turn out good. Everything used to be put back together with 'hay wire.' Wonder what my parent's generation would have done with JB Weld.

I imagine you greased the inner cable before assembly and it sounds like it might last indefinitely. I wonder why it broke in the first place. I believe mine went because a mechanic removed the console and shoved it out of the way on top of the hood without detaching the cable at the tach. The outer cable windings were spread on one side about where the cable would bend over the hood, and that's where the inner cable broke.

I think maybe I'll try to find some too. My wife still thinks it's strange that I drizzle liquid dish washing detergent on my glasses and rub them under a running tap. 'You're using enough detergent to wash a whole sink of dishes' she says. It sort of gets them clean and is convenient though.

Chief: I think I recognize that recipe and it doesn't produce dirty dishes.

How long of a hill? Is the rope going to be a continous loop?

Back in the olden days, and some places still, a tractor had a spare rim bolted on the right side and a long continous rope with a long splice was used by looping it around the rim 2X. A batter board was used to make sure no one got around it or thru it.

If this arangement you are trying to do is only going to be used a few times a year this would not be practical.

How about an old wagon and make a trail up?

Tractor supply does have pto driven fence rollers you might wanna look at those for a quicker idea. But if you do something like that make sure you have a good batter board set up.

I've road up many a hill on a rope tow, rope tows are still used in many ski areas yet.

It does take a very stout 1.5" and expensive rope to get 300 feet or more up a hill.

As I think about this some more depending on what you have to work with. You could get an old truck diffrential a short dirve shaft hooked thru an old transmission and put your tractor on that with the pto.

I look at the side hill by me all the time. Its steep and lots of trees a good place to play all day.

Rope is way to expensive!!!!!!

I have a Bearcat model 70544 and put quite a bit of stuff through the shredder. Anything 1 inch and smaller. It doesn't cut it as smooth as the chipper but it is very quick. Works great on the compost pile.

I liked the GC 2310 but for my use I decided to go a little bigger after trying that machine. The dealer had a demo 1235 MF with FEL and backhoe with 26 hours 4 year warranty free pickup and delivery for service for life for $21500.
What a nice tractor it is. The four year and service commitment are the clinchers. I was impressed. Anyone else have a MF1235, The Agco ST30 is the same tractor.

Take a look at my 2230. The loader comes off and on in 2 minutes literally. I also have the snow blower, and can attach that in less than 10 minutes (PTO shaft takes the most time).<br>

I have a lead on a L2900 w/FEL, GST, 4wd, Turf tires, and ~1150 hours. The guy's looking for $12K but I can maybe drop that to $11K. The unit looks and sounds good and seller claims it's a good runner. It's from a rental place if that makes any difference.<br>

From everything I've read on this forum the L2900 seems to be a very good little tractor! There is a dealer within 25 miles if parts are needed but he's not the seller.<br>
