What I would do is park the tractor at the peak of the hill, put a stand on your 3 point hitch, raise it to its highest height, and get up on the stand Then you can better see your kids walking up the hill pulling their sleds behind them like we had too..

I had a bunch of mud and hay bail twine wrapped around mine. A good cutter blade (box cutter or heavy duty knife) and the pressure washer solved my problem. Used a "Leather Man" set of stainless pliers to pull the cuttings off as I loosened them up. Spray your tines and exposed metal with linseed oil or some kind of protectant to keep them from rusting after you get them all cleaned up.

We use a cotton hook.
Like a giant meat hook with a wooden "T" handle on it.
We have a home made machete thing.
16"x 1/4" with wooden handle.
Short and heavy chopper.
For the big outer stuff only.

I have a set of those diamond cable things that stay in my 1/2-ton. The only time I've used them is when my neighbour dug his 1/2-ton down in some snow pack in his yard. I just laid the chains out flat in front of the rear wheels and dug down ahead of the tires so I could get the tires on to the ends of the chains. And, out came the truck without even having to mount the easy install chains. Worked pretty well I think but just don't stand behind the truck if doing it. I think real chains would be better but I really haven't needed snow tires around here and we get a bunch of snow.

I think I'd be more aware of balance and stress to the chassis from working with heavy loads than wear on the hydraulic system. Clutches and HST's would take a greater beating as well.

Almost any gear pump is capable of supporting around 4000 lbs. loads. Newer gear and piston pumps go much higher. But high working pressure over time would reduce the volumetric efficiency prematurely. The system also would run hotter, which also doesn't do components including hoses any good. 3,000 lbs. rated hoses are likely working pressures. SAE standards call for minimum bursting ratings of four times the working pressure, although some designers may not use SAE standards.

Still bursting is an issue and heat, pressure and sun over time deteriorate hoses. Relief valves don't crack instantaneously and spikes well above relief pressures can happen if loads drop etc. That's the reason for conservative burst ratings and it's hard to tell how big of pressure spikes can occur on a particular tractor. What's being talked about here doesn't seem like wholesale compromises of ratings, but just the same the idea that rated working pressures can be increased should also include the notion that there are increased risks to operator and equipment.

Just found out from my dealer that Kubota has a service bulletin on this problem. The fix involves modification to the loader frame. Moving the tires out would make the problem worse and is not recommended by Kubota. It seems any Grand L with the 10-16.5 R4 front tires and a LA723 loader would have this problem.

I made one a few years back for someone who wanted to mount a reversible 3pth landscape rake (with gauge wheels) on the FEL in order to do driveway maintenance.<br>

He got the idea from a guy in NH who sells such a thing, he calls it the "Front Runner" and it just that, a rake with a different mount, with a price tag far higher than it needs to be.<br>

I wanted to be a little more flexible in mounting options, rake, grader, forks, cement mixer, etc., though so I merely welded a 3pth 'Quick Hitch' onto a QT plate for the FEL, cost was minimal and it took all of about 20 minutes to do.<br>

Somehow an archive search for Bill's (BillMullens) posts didn't find anything. I know he's posted the link for a CAD plan company that sells plans for various implements.

There's also an old discussion that gets at some do it yourself design ideas. One idea is that there's a relationship between the distances between the lower link arms and the top-link mounts on the tractor and the mounts on an implement. Most times you want an implement to rotate on its lower-link pins as the 3ph lifts so an implement keeps a fairly constant attitude. Parallelogram type arm designs do that.

I've always thought the pipe idea should work very well. Haven't tried it because around here the landfills are near and there's no tippage fees. We just store everybody's collection of brush and burn it in January. Besides, the permits and fire wardens are required for many burns anyway.

The permits and marshals are almost painless. The marshals are us on the fire crew and for anything sizable we'd likely bring along our pumper since we have to invent reasons to exercise it enough anyway. Still a lot of people don't bother since burning your brush is something that's always been done around here. It might be good to check with your township though 'cause there might be crew and equipment available for free. Besides, nobody would want to live in the same township with us if we had to turn out to fight a wild fire because somebody didn't call us and let a burn get away from them.

I turned up the link below through a Netscape search, which often turn up more useful hits than IE searches. There also was a page called 'Parts Country' but it requires registration to access it.

I'd be aware that many engines manufacturers supply head gaskets in a number of thicknesses so you may have to know which thickness you need. Gaskets may be different for different production years so you may have to know the serial number/year as well. There also may be some differences between N.A. and other tractors but the serial number would tell give you that info. It can be a little more complicated than a simple order.

Torque is an interesting way of looking at ballast. It also leads into the idea that 3ph and loader ratings are static loads, but torques change a lot when weights are in motion. That's the idea that shock-loads can break tractors even if weights are less than the ratings. I've even heard of tractors being broken with nothing in them when trailering them at highway speeds. Buckets and implements are supposed to be sat on the desk--good idea to get a long enough trailer.

Designs and ratings have built in allowances for shock loads but I don't suppose it's realistic for ratings to be anything but for static loads. Manufacturers ultimately have to depend on owners having Chief's seat of the pants ballast meter in good working order.

It normally is the valve that leaks as stated. The amounts of settling here doesn't seem to be out of line. I am amazed that Bradco is just moving away from leather seals at this time. I didn't know they were still using them.

Just get the mid mount mower and a Trac-Vac and get them off the lawn totally! Tring to go around tree's with a rear mower is difficult.

That's my wife's thing, she does work her own self and I think she enjoys her time with the girls. I think they call it power shopping? She normally is a pretty good shopper but I think it is cheaper to stay here and just look for the bargins. She did give me a long list of what not to buy her for xmas and didn't give me too long of a list get her, do you think she's trying to tell me something? In the past she had been going down to PA for the big event same senario as Kittering.

Thanks for the detail Murf! Somehow it never seemed quite right that they'd be simple line shut-offs. A line shut-off would cavitate the pump each time the engine shut down unless there was something to change the pump to no-delivery at the same time. It'll still be interesting to hear why the solenoid didn't shut down the engine when the key was turned off.
