I was wondering if a 7500 was much more of an advantage, I never looked at them and don't even know a price comparison, is ground clearance the only big issue?

I'm thinking about your aside. The way I'd think of it is that at rest the spooling valves block the work ports and most leakage there would go through the valve assembly to the return line, although I suppose it's possible to get from work port to work port across the valve assembly.

The cylinder o-rings block oil going from one side of the cylinder to the other. If the cylinder retracts, then the load is on the piston side, which is a larger area than the shaft side and would produce lower PSI than if the load were on the shaft side. Lower PSI should mean less leakage than if the load were on the shaft side and appreciable leakage would be more apt to be through the spooling valve. Something like that. Confusing eh and probably means I'm about to learn something. A decent test although not the best is to disconnect the cylinder lines, which takes the valve out of the system.

I'm about 20 minutes south of the thruway from Utica, or if you are familiar with our senic Rt 20 the store I spend the most amount of time at is our Sangerfield or Waterville. Yesterday it was in the 60's here, went to a snowmobile club board meeting last nite, I think it was just to tease everyone. You aren't that far away I believe as my wife just came back from Maine from a two (long) day shopping trip. She had a glow on when she walked in!

Around here 'widow makers' are dead limbs up high on mostly white pine. Bump a tree with equipment and down they come. That's why skidders have steel cages, but I'd not saying anything new.

In my fire story, the real grubbing was done by a dozer (without a cage). The only trouble was that the operator ran the fire line outside where we parked our trucks and then continued around one side of the fire. Sparks jumped a meadow and caught needles underneath a stand of small trees near the parking area. Oh man about a half dozen of us were grubbing and backpack pumping for all we were worth until the water bomber showed up and another hose line was run. Half the people there were on the other side of the fire and probably had their truck keys in their pockets. I didn't think of that at the time but I'm going to bring it up next fire meeting--leave keys in the ignition when at a fire scene.

Good thing the tornado went through before you moved in. Helmets are better when cleaning up than when experiencing one. There's still a bunch of throw near here where something called a lateral burst went through about five years ago. A lateral burst is a 'straight tornado.' Somebody must have given it coffee.

You really need to look at the two, even a good picture would do of the side. Think of ease of entering the tractor and getting off the tractor.

Forks are a trade-off. Heavy-duty ones weigh more and take their own weight off the 3ph capacity. My forklift weights over 600 lbs. It will lift huge weight with its but-plate on the ground. I can also move huge weight by abusing the tractor and putting everything heavy I can find in the loader and going slow on level ground--got to be aware of safety things though. A lighter forklift would be a better match for my tractor but I couldn't find one.

Don't know but the building inspector in your area should be able to tell you the requirements for snow loading. Manufacturers should be able to tell you if their products meet the requirements.

There were some choice phrasings in late '60's Japanese motorcycle manuals too. Honda manuals showed evidence of the employment of real translators but some Yamaha shop manuals took an interpreter. However, my favourite came from the instructions from one of those ether filled drinking birds. It said ''Warning: Pressure are going up when high heat is touched.' Dang! How you supposed to figure from the instructions that you're not supposed to start diesels with them.

Thanks for getting back. Yes, that's how I understood the problem and what you did. In my mind it was very likely the pump/governor that caused part of the problem.<br>

There's still the question of why it wouldn't shut down with the key. My understanding of a conventional solenoid/relay system is that it takes power to hold the solenoid open. Without power the solenoid closes to shut off the fuel. Maybe the system works differently, or maybe fuel flow at full throttle was enough to keep it from closing. I wouldn't think it should work that way. I think they're supposed to act as safety features to prevent what actually happened.<br>

One thing I'd do is get an explanation from the mechanic for why it didn't shut down. If there isn't a good one and solenoids tend to go bad around 1600 hours I might replace it on principal. It's always a serious stretch explaining a problem by coincidental malfunctions in independent components but maybe that's what happened. If I hadn't thought that 'run away' meant sticking at fast idle I'd probably guess the solenoid because at least you can get an explanation for the whole problem in one component.

I didn't read all the response's you got but here is my two cents.
I have recently purchased a new 7500. I want to move dirt,
Blow snow, and mow and mulch.
My problem is the mow and mulch part. I am frustrated trying to find the solution. I know I can buy a mmm/bagger
2500-3000 bucks. And have to empty the bags.
I would like a rear finish Mower,for the price and convienence(removal+install) that mulches leaves enough
that you don't have to go over it or be concerned about killing the grass.But retaining the benefit of the nutrients.
How about introducing air into the deck,causing vacuum or circulation? using the drivedhaft before or after the gear box. or possbly a sm. hyd. unit?
I'll buy the first one!

Thanx for your reply but my problem is not one of going down when I don't want it to but rather it being sooo slow when I DO want it to.

I just got the parts list I won on eBay and it shows the bolt I mentioned in my above posts as an adjusting bolt.

I installed one pack of shims in mine and it pressure tested at 2400psi. I tested it before and it tested at 2050 psi.

Since I installed the Curtis cab I mounted the pair of JD worklights under the front lip of the cab roof and added a generic worklight under the rops crossbar using the umberella hole. 3 lights on the same rear wires and haven't blown a fuse. I think those worklights are fairly low wattage compared to the headlamps. Something like 25w or so.

The dealer may have found a fix for this problem, and if so it's a weird one (to me at least). I discovered that this troublesome chassis noise happened frequently for the first few minutes after starting out on a cold day. So Monday night I parked the truck in the dealers lot, and on Tuesday morning I went to the dealer to demonstrate the noise. Voila - we could actually reproduce it! The dealer had an experienced mechanic who said he thought it was the clutch pilot bearing. They used a "chassis ear" (whatever that is) to narrow it down to the clutch area. They replaced the clutch pilot bearing, disk, pressure plate, and throwout bearing and the noise seems to have disappeared! If i don't hear it again in the next month or so I'd say it's cured. An interesting problem, at least to me.

I adjusted my 4700 to the 2nd narrowest setting (so that tire chains clear) and it is about 75 inches wide.

I believe according to the ASAE (American Society of Agricultural Engineers) the only limitation of the cat1 hitch is height (max lift height). I believe you'll find this somewhere in 2210 literature (sales or manuals) or on the web.

I still remeber the first time I tried to re-mount my 210 loader. Had the misfortune of trying to do it at night. I was pissed! by the time I finished. Then I found "the trick". When remounting, raise the hydraulics until the front wheels are 6" off the ground, then carefully plant both feet on the black loader mounting plate on the front end of the tractor and bounce as necessary to re-engage. I've never had a problem since. Obviously the tractor is a little light to do it unnassisted.
