Thanks all. Ergonomics do matter... I bought the tractor during mowing season so up until last week's snow, didn't have much call for using the backblade (though I did use it for some drainage work). 3PH control placement is really my only complaint to date with this tractor. When I was researching different makes on this board, there weren't too many folks with the GC2300. I just want other prospective buyers to be aware of this concern. As for the 3PH issue, I did try shortening the toplink. It didn't seem to quite do the trick but I'll keep messing with it. I may take you up on your offer Mark! I'll also look into the skid shoes. Thanks again everyone.

How many hours on the tractor? Wouldn't that affect the price?

I'm a newbie so I don't know but it seems like it would. I'm currently in the market for a CUT (20 - 30hp) so I'm gathering as much information as I can.

I don't know anything about these but I poked around on the web a little. These were made from 1957-1962 and found two other working 801s for sale with asking prices of $900 and $5k. tractortips dot com indicated that the 801 doesn't have a 3 point hitch. Is that right? If so that will limit the utility. Tractor parts seem to be available but not sure about parts for implements if needed. In addition to the tractortips site you might poke around a little on ytmag dot com (yesterdays tractors).

I'm not familiar with any conversion but maybe your dealer if both tractors were in stock would check.. Another way of making it easier is to go to a pin simuliar to the three point pins for easy disconnect, it makes it so you can tighten up which you can't do with the pin system.

Kubota does have a plant in Georgia but all compacts come from the orient or other countries. They account for 80 percent of the market. Some market under there own name, some don't.

There's no doubt that those small Toyotas are reliable, but they're too small. I already have a Ford Ranger so I'm not looking for another small truck. A 3/4 ton beater that can be used on occasion to tow or haul big loads is what my needs call for. That pretty much limits it to one of the domestic brands.

My wife has a Bernina machine with all the bells and whistles and their software. There is a Compaq computer connected to it full time. I don't know much more about it than that. The only time I go into that room is if something needs fixin'. I get hats and shirts with my ham radio call sign embroidered onto them for my trouble. ;-)<br>

Re: 100% duty cycle welders are generally only required for machine welding and robotic applications. You want to get the best duty cycle that makes sense economically, but 60% to 75% is usually good enough at the highest amperage settings. It is good to have 100% in the 150 amp range. <br>

Re: fuel usage is going to be nearly proportional to generator demand. Your tractor may use 2 GPH at full load, but that will generate 17KW or better with your tractor. A more normal load from a house is about 4 KW with excursions upto about 10KW. Your tractor may very well be in the 1 GPH range with that kind of load.

I've lifted a few my bucket wouldn't lift by rigging a chain sling and running chain through the loader arm pipe. That way the load is closer to the axles and there's less leverage. However, the stone is closer to the tractor and can easily bash the grill as it comes off the ground or when swinging around during transport. Lot of care and a grill guard is a good idea. Trying to lift something heavy and too big to fit in the bucket by a single chain over the centre of the bucket often bends them.

I'd probably drag them rather them lift them myself if I didn't mind the ground being torn up a bit. I've levered up the sides of things with the bucket curl enough to run a chain underneath. The curl has more power than the lift. Just don't every get your hands underneath. A choker with a slip hook or a grab hook loop may work best depending on size and shape. I use grade-70 transport chain and I also have a 1/2" cable choker. I drag only from the drawbar and I attach the chain through the loop of a 1" clevis that fits in a drawbar hole.

It hasn't come up for me but if I couldn't drag a load I might think about making an old-fashion stone boat.

Looks like everybody here'd have to do some research to give a decent answer--me too. If you get stuck, one of our neighbours has a Case hoe but I don't know which model. Neighbours here can be a fair distance and you don't see them every day but I could ask him.

UK (I'm reluctant to call him either lazy or bar) makes a good point. Yanmars have pretty good reputations and they also have a dealer presence in N.A. I think the N.A. company is pretty rigid about supporting gray Yanmars and understandably so. If you're not near a dealer then there'd be the usual problems of supporting grays but at least parts could be ordered and couriered. It still might be a good choice. Something to be aware of is that if you're near a dealer and have a gray then you still don't have dealer support.

I think that the CK20 from the spec's is caught in between the BX and the B series tractors. It does exceed them both in weight but that has been known to hinder the performance of a tractor if it is in excess of what the horsepower can move efficiently or if it is in the wrong place. The rear discharge mowers under tractors have been having mixed reveiws and not turning out to be as nice as they were once thought to be. trouble is they tend to leave more grass clippings under the rear of the tractors or with the ability to get under the operators platform and over the transmissions. This has caused some problems with heat build up. They still will give windrowing between the blades unless mowing often enough.

Does anybody know of a snow plow set up that would quickly attach to a FEL similiar like how a tooth bar attaches? Two bolts into side of bucket. Something that would not take up a lot of space.
