Mark I think that Toyota Motor Corp. might be interested to know how their vehicles are regarded by this rental firm. I think it might be interesting to write a letter to them outling your experience and see what happens.

It takes horsepower to move weight. Takes more fuel to move unnessecary weight. Every tractor company needs the freedom to move the weight they do carry for optimum performance.

Auggie, did you feel you really needed to move because the BX wasn't enough tractor? Why did you move up? You didn't say you were unhappy with the performance.

I might be wrong, but when you start putting extra weight on a 3pt hitch to lift a heavy load with a fel you are asking for trouble, that is the quickest way I know to break a tractor in to

I'd actually try and find out what has been used as a lubricant in every area if you could. The only time I recommend low grade lubricants is when water,moisture of any kind and dirt or any types of contaminaion in a short period of operation. Then drain in change filters and fluids again.

That's what I'm worried about. Truck weighs about 4500lb according to local quarry's scales.

As far as impliments go, thats worth a second trip for now using the 5 x 8 utility trailer I have. I'm even considering a weight box instead of the filled tires, so I can take a few pounds off for traveling. I want to keep the FEL with me though.

Lacking 4WD, my old 1964 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup was easy to work on. Had the old reliable Chrysler 318 engine. Got so it took longer to go into town to get the parts than it did to change the clutch. ('course I was a lot younger then (;>
Chained up with a pile of cordwood in the bed traction was pretty good. Paid $400 for it in 1974, cost new ( from the title) was $1836. It had a zillion miles on it, originally a U.S Forest Service truck. Owned it from '74 'till '90; disposed of it 'cause I bought a new F-150 4WD in '88 ( which I still use ) and it was just in the way...
It would, with a decent battery and maybe a touch of ether start at -35F, run on any gas that wouldn't freeze in the fuel lines, and totally DESTROY out-of control Toyata Land Cruisers.
Most 4WD vehicles are much more difficult to work on, old or new.

the problem was not gear ratio related. the size of the tires would not have helped. the problem was in the geometry of the steering linkage. If anyone is familiar with automotive front end alignment terminology, The toe-out on turns was not configured properly. In some cases I have been able to set straight ahead toe to about 1/4" toe out to help the situation. If anyone still has this issue I'd recommend playing with toe in adjustment to see if they can get any improvement. I don't know if deere is still replacing any of these axles, it is a pretty old issue now.

I was looking also at fuel consumption. My 35 hp JD will suck 2gph at full load. The miller will suck 1gph. The unit has all the basic bells and whistles that I am smart enought to use and a few I'm not like TIG. And the next point is how often will I need it?<br>

I've been looking at PTO for a long time and am really comfortable going down that path. But was thinking how nice it would be to have a nice welder with a 100% duty cycle in all aspects except 28v mig and gen that would handle the house.<br>

So if I buy PTO gen and seperate 50amp welder with 100% duty cycle I'm still in at 5+ grand, me thinks.<br>

This problem is not that big a deal, but I had a thought about how to fix it. I think if I mixed up some epoxy (is epoxy fuel safe?), poured it into the bottom of the funnel and let it pool around the base of the filter (which sticks up out of the center of the funnel) it would act as sort of a leveling compound and fill in the space that causes wasted fuel.

My buddy just priced an Agco ST25, hydro, w/ FEL, turfs,60" rear finish mower and a back blade for 15,500 out the door tax inc. Dealer is a good guy and local.<br>

OK, I've posted a couple of pics of the tractor with the new tires. See pics 10 and 11. If you compare pic 10 to pic 1 you can get some idea of how they compare to the old R4s. Unfortunately I won't get to use them until (maybe) Sunday. The only impression I have so far is they give a bumpy ride on the driveway slab but I don't have much work to do there :)

Can't you get someone to hold a rag or something over the hole, while you put the o-ring back on over the screen.

Mark, we do a lot of perc. tests too, but I found it was far easier to do the test hole using a post-hole auger.

We use a 12" bit and an extension shaft on an hydraulic auger mounted on the loader boom. This is important since it gives you tremendous down-pressure and the ability to reverse the bit if need be.

There's a JD 4300 w/ 400-500 hrs I'm looking into. It comes with a 5' rotary cutter, FEL, and woods finishing mower (6' I think). He wants 12,000 for it. I don't plan on using the finishing mower as my property has LOTS of trees & the tractor wouldn't have the maneuverability i need so it would just be used for field work.<br>
