I remember you asking about tires when you bought your machine. I bet your really going to like the performance of those new ones .

Cutters that are big for a tractor are harder on the PTO drive no matter what is cut, but tractors are made to be used and repair has to be factored into the price of owning one. In marginal HP situations reducing ground speed likely would manage any power problems and the cutter likely would be OK if the weight can be managed by the 3ph.

Another way of looking at it is that if the work is all on your own property 2" material probably has to be cut only once. After that loads and wear and tear on the tractor should be less. Alternatively the first cut could be contracted out and a lighter cutter could be bought for the tractor, which would produce less wear and tear in the long run.

A good idea and also not a new one: My grandfather gave me a JD tractor model for Christmas one year in the early '50's and implements for a few following years. I still remember those models and wonder what ever happened to them. My cousins may have received them also but maybe not since they were on farms around the real thing and all my uncles had IH equipment.

The models were great but as advertising the models may not have worked so well. My grandfather treated the thought of anything other than JD equipment and Chevy pickups as something approaching sinful but when it came to it I bought Fords--tractor and truck. The models sure must have simplified Christmas shopping for a few years for my grandparents who had a bunch of grand kids and I still remember them with pleasure.

There is nothing quite like the discussion of talent on how to trim a board. I am not a finish craftsman so my first choice is sawsall and second is Stihl (a small one).

My thought really is not to rip the new casings but I would run them thru the planer that way, if you are into matching all trim, everything still looks the same.

I am looking at a Miller Bobcat250 D NT. Its a 3 cyl Kobata diesel. It will semi replace my old buzz box. (I'll use buzz bx for small quickie repairs). I "want" a heavy duty welder, it's portable, it has lots of generator power for back up eliminating the need for a pto unit.<br>

We have Ranger 8's at work and they are half the money of the diesel but they only run on gas. Usually I bring one of those home or take the work in when doing heavy welding.<br>

Lincoln discontinued their diesel Ranger 8.<br>

Any thoughts on this "brain storm"?<br>

Explination of the bagged out bushing-- There was, according to the dealer, a "burr" which wouldn't allow the pin to be installed so the tech "cleaned" it up with a die grinder. Needless to say, Monday when I pick up my snow thrower, I'll also pick up a new FEL mount.

I just completed my 50 hour first trannny fluid change not to long ago and the only two issues were the removal of a brake linkage to get the screen tube all the way out and replacing the tube was a little tricky getting it to go all the way back into its original depth. I had to lift the inserted end up to clear a lip. The triangle shaped three bolt cap went back on ok and I do not recall an O ring seal. What problems (if any) did you have re-securing the cap and its three bolts?

Interesting. Looks as if it depends who you deal with. I used the x-plan to purchase my F-250 SD and was very pleased with the savings. I went to the dealer, found what I wanted, agreed on the price of my trade in and got the price. Then asked what the price was with the x plan. Saved me about 3K.
I'm planning on using it again next year for my wife's new vehicle.

I'm going to buy a tractor, likely sooner then later. I have rented, and been impressed with the Kubota L35, and I have a local dealer within 5 miles, so Kubota is the choice. <br>

I have about 6 acres of mostly woods with some grass which I cut with my JD STX 38. I don't plan on finish mowing with the big tractor.<br>

What I'm planning to use the tractor for is to move a large amount of fill that I'm going to have delivered this spring to finish off the landscaping properly. I figure I'll need a landscape rake to help with that. After the landscaping, I'll need to clear a site for the new shed/barn/garage. I also have a lot of blow downs and standing dead wood that I plan to haul out of the woods and turn into firewood. I figure I'll get the Farmi JL 351 winch or similar to help with that. I also have some good size boulders that I will need to push around using both the FEL and backhoe. I've hauled away my share of brush, and was salivating over the chippers, but they are pretty expen$ive, so I didn't think I would be able to justify it, especially if I was going to go with a new L35.<br>

I was all ready to go to the dealer this weekend and sign up for the L35, without a chipper, and now I see this L3710, that comes with a chipper, for much less.<br>

One of the things I like about the L35 is that the backhoe is real strong. How does the Woods 9000 stack up to that?<br>

My Titan HI-TRACTION R1s 12.4-24 rear and 7-16 front were installed late this afternoon, too late to try 'em out. These are an upgrade from the 11.2-24/7-14 R1s that are standard on the 4310/4410 tractors. I had them set to the widest setting. The extra 5" diameter and extra foot or so of width really makes it look like a bigger tractor. With the new tires ground clearance is increased by 2.5" and the ROPS now clears my garage door by only an inch.<br>

If I ever have to install chains on these puppies I'll have to have the rear fenders trimmed. There's only about 1.5" of clearance between the tread and the fenders. <br>

For reference I just bought a new BX 23 TLB with 60" belly mower. Picking it up in the morning. $15,800.00 plus tax.
Central WV. Called around 200 mile radius north to Pittsburgh, east to Washington DC, west to Columbus OH, and south to Nashville. Prices ranged for same machine from high of $19,800 in Pittsburgh to the low in Charleston WV where I bought it. Hope this helps

I used the factory light and the factory bracket on my TC24, it puts the light at the base of the ROPS and folding is not a problem because the top of the bar clears the light. The light and the bracket together cost me about $35.

Another thing that occurred to me. My blade does not have the ability to roll the blade along the F/R axis of the tractor. This is useful if you are putting a road in along the side of a hill and don't want the blade to follow the wheels (sitting on the uncut slope). In my case, I put in about 300 yards of road on a slope that I regularly traverse. The slope was uncomfortably steep before the road was put in. This work was done in an afternoon.

I was able to get the job done anyway by adjusting the blade angle with the adjustable link on one side of the 3PH for leveling implements. That would give me enough angle to progressively make the road level with progressive passes of the blade.

This is another area where if you are going to be doing a lot of this type of work, that you should go for more expensive equipment, but where you can make do with standard equipment if this is a very occasional thing.
