when i got my b2910 delivered the tack,fuil gage and hourmeterwas not hooked up,i called the deleir they told me that they have been haveing a problem with kubota not hooking the gages up,so i poped the panel off sure enough none of it was hooked up

I have a 790 and an LX-5 and it works well. I think the 790 will LIFT the MX-5 because I have lifed my LX-5 with 240lbs of concrete bags on top when used as ballast for an extremely heavy FEL load.<br>

It seems (to me at least)those ratings by JD are to be safe and are for the basic 790 so as not to be light in the front end from such a comparatively heavy cutter. The tractor will lift more than 815lbs. If you have a FEL you should be better balanced from to back than a guy without one. I think the tractor will turn the MX-5 blades fine unless your chopping trees.<br>

Do you really need an MX-5? Are you going to be cutting stuff that an LX-5 can cut but just want the extra bef of the MX-5. In that last scenario I don't think the MX-5 will be much harder for the tractor to operate. Now if you get crazy the tractor may bog on real thick stuff.<br>

I have slightly "enhanced" my hydraulic capabilities as a couple of other 790 owners have as well ;) I could tell you how but then you know I'd have ta' kill ya':) Seriously though if you end up with the 790, I can email the discussions on this subject.<br>

I've got 2 LED flashlights and they amaze me (an easy thing to do). They throw a very bright very white light and the batteries last for a year of DAILY use! But they do NOT throw a long beam, they light up an engine compartment or a room well, but you won't see to far into the woods or down the road.

Personally, I think that the loaded tires and either wheel weights or a weight of some sort on the 3 pt. hitch would be plenty. The weight on the 3 pt. hitch could be a box blade or some other heavy impliment that you could mount temporarily for heavy loader work. Ken in your case with the traction issues, the wheel weights and filled tires may be what you end up with. I can definitely tell you that just the loaded tires is NOT enough weight for all uses. Its a crap shoot! ;-)

Just ordered the "Glow Plug Controller" from JD. There is also a relay in the system. It's a black plastic, fully sealed box 3"x2" that is mounted up front by the battery.

It should be in tomorrow and I'll post the results. I hope that this is it. Netx step will be to put a push button in to do it manually.

I just changed my entire TC33D over to Amsoil Synthetic. I am absolutely thrilled. Mine has 50 hours on it since others in the forum suggested I wait for the engine to break in. A friend of mine also did his and is very happy. It was not cheap but it took all the whine out of the hydraulics, tranny and power steering. All you hear now is the engine running. I know it is expensive, but I figured with $20K invested in a tractor and implements, $200-$300 to change it all over to Amsoil was well worth it. Plus I live in cold weather so the hydro will be better in the winter.

I have both a blade and a scraper and the guys above are absolutely correct. For the work you're talking about, a scraper will work far better. A pull-type scraper (as in Mark's link) works better than a box blade for the same reasons. Just my $.02.

I suppose it depends on what the 2" material is that you want to cut. My 4310 with MX5 medium duty rotary cutter does a superb job on 2" Scotch Broom, and that's pretty tough stuff. You can't race over it going 10 mph, but it chops it up pretty well. I'm very impressed with the MX5.

Have to looked at weekendfreedommachines.org there is a guy that has one for $2600 i think. My friend Mr. Golly has a 420 with the 44 loader, he doesn't have a mower deck on it. I think the loader runs off its own pump connected to the mid pto. That why it has its own set of hydro controls. I asked him next time i see him. Try cadplans they have pretty good plans.

Kids nothing. I was at the dealer the other day and there was a couple with an armload of JD toys. I commented to the lady that any kid would love one of those, and she said they weren't for the kids - they were for her husband who was standing sheepishly nearby. We all got a laugh out of that and I told the husband that any guy would understand.

I had both a 214 with a 37a blower and a 312 with a 49 blower. The frame mount is the same but you have a blower with a side pto (37a) and trying to make it run of a front pto (49) Cutting the frame adding a 90 degree gear box, etc. Plus added hydro cylinder to lift it. It would be easyer to sell the 212 blower and buy a one that was designed for fit the 318 (they made both single and two stage blower for the 318). The 37a blower is only 38" wide while the 49 is 46" wide. the two stage blower is 47" wide. So the 37a is two narrow for the 318 anyways.

I have and new question now.
After reading the topics on this mesage board i thought it might be a good idea to change my hydrolic oil in my 790 john deere with 90 hours. I removed the screen and cleand out all metal shaveings. Now i can't get the area were the screen is to stop leaking. Did you have this problem with your 790? There was no gasket! Should there be? It just slowly dripps and is driving me mad.

I think you'd be happier with the results using a 3pth bale spear instead. Not only does the 3pth lift more, it also carries the load closer in and since the rear axle does not pivot like the front one it will be a LOT more stable. That and you will still be able to see where you're going, a bale out front tends to be quite an obstacle to see around on a smaller machine.

I'm not sure how similar the 1715 is to my Ford 1710 but I'm trying to figure out what is melting. My 1710 just has the plugs, a pre-heat position on the switch and a glow indicator. If it's the indicator that's melting after 30-seconds of use I'd think there's a problem. These engines are known to take quite a bit of pre-heating and I think of 30 seconds as on the short side of what I use.

There might be an over-voltage or low resistance problem. If the tractor is being started while on a battery charger then that might be the answer. If the pre-heat system is the same as on my 1710 I could look up the testing procedure for the speced ohm readings.

I checked the brake fluid and it was just slightly above the MIN line. I added some fluid and it seems to be fine now. The hard braking I did was going down a hill and the slopping around probably made the light go off.<br>

Every component has a rate of failure and malfunction and adding any component decreases reliability. It may improve other things and make the increased risks worthwhile. Fuel filters seem pretty benign things so I'm with everybody else. I'd just add one if there's a perceived need and fuel flow remained adequate to support heavy workloads.

I still don't understand the logic of several filters except maybe to guard against catastrophic failure of a single filter due to manufacturing defect. That might be a good reason in itself. Filter manufacturers also change their production, materials, QC and tractor manufacturers have to keep up with changes. Another reason might be to guard against having new filter that no longer meets engineering specs until the factory catches up with the changes.

In terms of whether additional filters do anything significant in terms of filtering is another question. Filters do pass particles near the size of the filter rating with fair probability but they also block significantly larger particles with probabilities approaching certainty. Without knowing differently, I'd assume that engineers would spec a filter where the filter particle output is insignificant in terms of engine operation. If that's true then subsequent filters are redundant in terms of an engine. Maybe any particle output increases pump and injector wear. People can expect to replace pumps and injectors during their ownership so that's an issue. Better filtering might increase longevity but only if pumps didn't tend to fail from some other cause first. If they do then additional filters are still redundant. Just questios here. I don't know the answers.
