Installed new Glow Plugs yesterday. $111 for 3 from the local JD dealer. Installed them and the tractor starts instantly like it always did. I let the voltage run for 30 seconds after the engine had started and then pulled the plug on the relay to shut them off. I'm afriad of burning them out again becasue I have no idea how long they can run before buring out. I'll order a new relay; $80 and see if that shuts off the juice after running.

Rigid, Before I got my Kubota I used my 9N to build a couple of driveways (without FEL) and the regular back blade worked pretty well. I'm guessing the Kubota will really be able to tear up the turf because it's such a brute in comparison to the Ford. To me the 7 foot blade seems pretty wide for most uses and will have to be built alot stronger than the narrower one because of the extra twisting forces. Also with the six footer you will be able to angle the blade almost 30 degrees and still be as wide as the 66 inch wheel width. Mostly I've found with backblade work to be patient. At first it seems that you're not getting anywhere and suddenly the job is done.

The 430 manual might be considered ambiguous but it just looks wrong to me.

It shows a table with 3 columns, with headings "Rear Tires with liquid Ballast" (column 1), "Rear Tires with Liquid Ballast and 6 wheel weights" (column 2), and "Minimum 3-point hitch ballast kg (lbs) (column 3)"

It then has 1 row where it indicates loader use is not approved if wheel width < 59 inches,
The next row has an X in column 1 and a ballast weight of 600 (1320) in column 3.
The last row has an X in column 2 and a ballast weight of 550 (1210) in column 3.

I would conclude as Ken did that the manual indicates you always must have loaded tires, PLUS some ballast. Charts for other tractors have a column labeled "Rear Tires without liquid ballast" (usually with the words - Loader use not approved")

My experience recently with NO LOADED TURF tires, using a box grader is sufficient for filling of the 5' bucket of my loader with dry sand/gravel - you are just on the edge. I would estimate the box grader as weighing 200-300 lbs.
I can move 3/4 of a bucket of top soil with this configuration as well.

I'll add one more bit of info to this discussion. The top of the bolt I mentioned is painted orange-as if to stand out as a common adjustment. To be sure, I'll just have to wait until I get an owner's manual on eBay.

Just the pre-heater.

I haven't had a real chance to try it yet. The coldest was high twenties F and it started fine with the pre-heater.

I have located a '99 JD 4400 with 72" MMM but have heard that these have had some problems. Can anyone confirm this? Looking at $9500 and around 100 hours. Sound reasonable? What does a loader cost?

Unlikely. The 7308 loader isn't the strongest loader around and mounting the bale spears on the bucket makes it that much worse. The new 14LA (?) loader will carry more weight but it requires a new tractor with a beefier front axle.

Even the new small B's like a 7510 would be a lot nicer to operate. Anything newer is nicer, but 7510 is a lot more comfortable to operate.

I would take a close look at the battery and oil cooler. There was an issue with these as well. The battery would leak acid and corrode the oil cooler, battery holddown and cables. There also was an issue with the rockshaft valve, but that may be tough to check out with the backhoe installed. There are programs on both of these issues that deere will pay for, although these programs expire December 1.

A 4115 will run a 72 inch MMM deck and has the fastest change-over from FEL to blade/blower on the market.

I got wind of the Brit unit a couple of weeks ago. I didn't go very far with it because I heard the unit plus shipping was a lot more money than a box store hydraulic splitter.

I tried to repair the cable with a copper sleeve & JB Weld (both the inner and outer part of the cable were severed) I'll see how that works out and let you know..thanks for the imput !

I only know of two synthetic HST fluids on the market and would only use one of them.

The first is Chevron All Weather. I would be happy to E-mail the spec sheet to you.

The other is Amsoil. Hold onto your wallet if you look it up.

I am thinking about doing the same thing with a similarly rated FEL on my JD. I was going remove the bale from my pick-up by placing as much in the bucket as possible and then wrapping a chain around the bale to hold it in the bucket. I have done this with a huge 600lbs. box and it worked fine. The key is LOTS of counterweight on the rear. Last time I had about 800lbs( brushhog rolling on the ground w/ cement bags on deck) of counterweight and it was very stable.

If I decide to feed some round bales this is my best option other than taking the trucks tailgate off, rolling in reverse and slamming the brakes on. That will work just as well and may be an easier choice if you are just throwing the bales out in the field.

Thanks Murf, When going out on demo's you get to see a lot and I still discount the weight in tires as not the best weight to have. The general weight of equipment needs to be as light as it can be and still do the job. Olden days things were often made big and heavy in order to stand up to the vigors of the day's work. Today with the newer casts available they can build lighter and still have the same and even stronger piece then before.
