Hi everyone, Does anyone have any information, good or bad on the Chinese made Dongfeng Tractors. I havn't seen any mention of them on the net, they look like Benye, but seem to be more solid.<br>

Check below the seat for the knob that controls the 3PH response. Movement down is by gravity. Response will be slower with cold oil. I can't find the capacity online (yet) but it is almost certainly less or equal to :<br>
'hitch lift capacity at lift point ... 1356 LB<br>
'hitch lift capacity at 24" behind lift point ... 1058 LB<br>
( the above are for the B7400 )<br>
See if you can get the operator's manual from the previous owner, or buy one from a dealer, it's full of useful info.<br>

AC, that's a good point. I guess you could use a set of pullies to gain a mechanical advantage, but you would reduce the distance pulled each time you raise the loader.

Jazak, I did not believe that you intentionally misled anyone. I was just trying to clear up something that was confusing. From your last post, I think that we agree on what the proper solution is.

Tom, my post on the ratios that discusses the numbers is valid. The change in mixture in going from rich to lean oil mixture is only about 1/2%. Any carburetor will adjust the mixture by that amount. You have to be able to adjust mixture by >4% just to account for altitude. (tree line)

In the final analysis, the percentage doesn't really matter. We don't adjust carburetors by dialing in a specific percentage of fuel to air, we peak up the engine and then enrichen the mixture slightly. Any nominal settings in a manual are for normal mixtures at sea level.

Anybody have an idea of how much a Ford 2000 Gas tractor with loader should cost? It seems fully operational (some question about the power steering), but it's really lousy looking (rusty!). Story is that the engine was overhauled about 50 hours ago. What should I pay for it?

KW, glad to hear that constant use of 4wd in the dirt shouldn't be a problem.

Art, haven't had a chance to try out my cruise control yet. To be honest, I didn't even think about it although I think I tried out everything else on the tractor. But maybe when I'm more comfortable with the couple of acres I have to rotary cut, I will want to use it...just don't know at this point.

I bought an 1160 from a contractor with 2100 hard hrs.
after I dissasenbled it repainted, tires etc, the pto quit,
power steering quit. pulled the pump and the key way on the shaft stipped out, massey wanted $200 and $210 for the whole pump! I took it to a machine shop and had them weld it up and make a new key way $120. I split the tractor to get at the pto clutch rebuilt it, but found out I had ripped the wire loose to the solenoid. Oh well,the front spindle seals are leaking but I just keep it topped off for now. otherwise its doing ok.sound like a lot of load on that bearng, maybe wrong size tires? difference in tire speed on 4x4s put alot of load internally especially with no slippage allowed (ie loader).Keep at it.

That is the bad part and unfortuanatly you already know how nice and handy it can be to turn tighter so now it's a matter of do you want to loose that? Or maybe how much of it. What probably happened is that someone changed the tires or spacing after assembly and didn't readjust the stops.

Actually John Deere does use a break in oil in their engines. Here is the link to the information on that oil. You will have to register and sign in the jdparts web site to view it.

You our case, the engines in our tractors are not John Deere engines. Yanmar makes them and JD imports them. I am not certain that Yanmar uses a break in oil however, the John Deere mechanics and service techs I have spoken with about this said that it is critical that the factory oil remain i the engine for a minimum of 50 hours to facilitate break in especially in the piston ring department.

I would change your oil & filter before you put the tractor into storage, but I would recommend using break in oil for this oil change. The part for the 1 gallon container of break in oil is TY22041. When you get to 50 hours or more, you can change over to your choice of appropriate engine oil. I use the John Deere 15W-40 Plus 50.

A 10A circuit manages my 2 55W lights (front and rear) OK. Should be no problem with a 20A circuit. My alternator is rated for 35A output, although many tractors have 25A alternators.

Two 55W lights might extend the recharge time at bit and heavy loads will shorten alternator life but most alternators should manage the load plus a fair bit for recharge. If a bunch of short runs were done, a trickle charger would top up the battery if it wasn't fully charged.

Still there's the question of why two 55w lights. You might look at the pattern of the unit. You want enough light on the ground to see what you're doing close to the tractor and to see what's coming far enough ahead. Tractors don't have the ground speed of cars (that also use two 55W lights but don't need much light on the ground or to the side). The unit might be interesting if one light gave a wide work light pattern and the other a narrower pattern for driving. I don't have to work much at night so mine are wide work light patterns. A single unit on one fender isn't going to out much light on the other side of the engine if nighttime tinkering is needed.
