My dealer installed it as it was part of the entire purchase price to include a snowblower, and 430 loader.

It has the upper work lights, rear work light and dome light, and also has the Curtis heater, with cooling fan and wipers. The (soft) doors and (soft) rear window panel can be removed very easily and can also be replaced by solid glass units.

It seems to have a very tight fit all-around. Metal to metal is separated by rubber in flat/straight areas, or in other rounded areas heavy plastic material is connected to the metal of the tractor with heavy duty velcro connectors. The bottom of the front windshield lifts out about 3-4 inches for ventilation.

I seem to notice more noise finding its way into the cab now instead of being dispersed into the air around me if I didn't have the cab. Not sure yet if I will need to upgrade my alternator to take into account the greater load on my battery.

Any thing I've missed? Quality paint job by Curtis! The cab fits below the ROP by about 6 inches.

For your info... I went to 3 Kubota dealers yesterday here in Connecticut to discuss pricing on the BX2300. I got the following prices: $15,500, $16,000 and $16,200. This was the base price quoted. I am sure that if I told them I was ready to purchase, I might be able to get a better price.

They had several BX2230's and dealer there was wonderful.

I am biased as I have a 4100 and a F735 as well. I use these commercially and so far had a good experience with my local dealer. What else would you be using this equipment for? I use the blade mostly for slushy stuff and small amounts of snow. The change over is fast and easy. It sounds to me that a blower would be good for you but it is expensive. Sorry about the delay in my response but this is a busy time.

If it's not too much work you might pull the ignition switch and check it out. There have been reports of bad TC ignition switches causing blown fuses, but I don't know if the particular fuses you mention are affected or not. Apparently the switch can short out.

I agree. When I bought my Blue tractor, I looked at Orange and Green. I liked all of the tractors that I saw. Looking at all the brands helped me to figure out what features were important to me. My decision was made by the dealer interaction and service potential rather than a particular brand.

We had mostly JD when I was growing up, but we also had other brands for special purposes. For example we had an IH Farmall Cub for mowing with a MMM. We had an AC tractor that had better visibility for operating a hay baler.

The JD battery is sandwiched between the radiator and the grill and can't be more than 5.5" or so in width. That really narrows the replacement field down based on specs of various BCI group numbers. There are hold down brackets on each end as well, which means the battery should be right around 9" long with lugs on each end if you want to use the factory clamps and not jury rig, er, fabricate a different hold down. You also don't want the terminals right next to the radiator due to the potential for shorts so if you don't want to buy longer battery cables and reroute them you're pretty much stuck with the group 22NF battery as far as I can tell. Unfortunately 22NFs aren't as commonly available as regular group 22 or 24 batteries.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the fronts should be set to roll a few % slower than the rears to allow for rear tire slippage. This may be best for a typical draft load. But, I agree with Tom that there is some play on lower traction surfaces.

Smoothness of ride may depend on the application. Where I live, R4s are much smoother to ride on than R1s. This is because the ground is so hard that it places it is like pavement. Certainly the R4s have a stiffer sidewall, but with R1s you get bounced with the movement of every tall lug. The first time that I drove a tractor out here with R1 tires, it was like driving down railroad tracks over the wood ties.

I know Mark uses turfs in similar terrain to mine.

Chuckles, are you sure you have a single stage blower, i zoomed in on your picture # 6 and it sure looks like theres an auger going aside to side cross the opening.

That and square cased single stage blowers are VERY rare, most of them are V-shaped since there is no cross-feed auger to deliver snow to the impeller.

A single stage blower has only a fan, or a crosswise spindle with a (usually) rubber paddle which just flips the snow out of the way, like the little Honda blowers do.

I remember one time he was trying to build a new woodshed, he asked me to have a look at his new skil-saw, because there was obviously something wrong with it, when I asked him why he thought so his reply was he had cut the same board 4 times and it was STILL too SHORT....

I need to get my hands on one of our shop manuals, I recall doing some testing some time back on one of our FEL valves and got a little over 1500psi at idle on the PB output port.

I believe that in some of the older tractors, Jubilee's, 9N's, etc., there was no relief valve other than the one in the pump itself.

In newer equipment I was taught there was a 'system relief' valve, which is externally adjustable as opposed to internal to the pump and not adjustabe without disassembly. This also improves performance of the system since there is no lag time while the pump builds pressure between itself and the load, it also keeps the fluid at operating temp. in cold weather because of the load-induced heating of the fluid passing through the system.

The first change is the most important change. I do doubt that the service manual would be any clearer then the owners manual other then there might be a better picture of the chassis for reference. I've been told many times that it was to deep and left to much out for the lay tractor owner to move forward with. It is your choice but unless you are going to be doing a lot of your own work, which why by a Kubota then you won't need it to much.

The shoes on my Meteor aren't adjustable but the blade can be put on the ground by extending the top-link. The shoes run part way along the end-plates. Extending the link rolls the blower off the shoes and onto the blade, which might be good for scraping snow off blacktop but as you say bad for blades.

The main problem with my shoes is that they're short and narrow so they sink into unfrozen gravel so I can't use the blower much before freeze-up. Wider ones that ran the whole depth of the blower box would solve that problem but then the blade couldn't be put on the ground unless the shoes were adjustable. I get by OK with my Meteor and the price was agreeable. There's no doubt in my mind that a Pronovost is a better blower. I'm kind of surprised they don't have replaceable blades, but a welder can replace most anything.

I like Fords since I have a 1710. 3910's are out of my experience I only have experience and info about the '10 -series compacts--which run to 2110's. The 43 pto hp was larger for what were called compacts at the time but isn't out of the ball park now. "Fraid I don't know anything about them except my faith that mid-80's Fords were basically sound tractors. Dealer and parts support from NH has been OK.

My sense of market price also wouldn't be much good for your area. Maybe the best test of a good price is comparing it to alternatives that are available where you are. I've never regretted shaving some off an initial budget by going for an older used low hour tractor myself. However, a newer one might have more transmission choices, better power steering, more hydraulics and a front drive designed specifically for heavy loader work. Those are tradeoffs I didn't mind making. My TX does have a synchromesh 12 x 4 TX that provides 4 synchromesh reverses. The reverses are good for 3ph snow blowers and blading in reverse and more importantly for loader work. An optional 3910 TX is an 8x4 but I don't know if any gears are synchromesh.

bnrhuffman, what a great post! Thanks much for all the good info. I hadn't really considered the 3ph being too weak for using a winch on the receiver hitch but I'm sure you're right. This means I'd have to pull from the truck, which will reduce the utility I was hoping for.
