I don't do much at night but that sound like a very good idea if I did. The bottom of my steel canopy seems like a good location but if the light were ahead of the seat it might shine in my eyes, or I might be in the way of the light if it were behind me. Mounted below me it might scare my friends and neighbours right after Halloween but that could also be the best location.

I'd probably want one that has it's own switch because I use the headlights during the day when I'm on the highway to run the flashers.

yes there is a sensor on the L-30 series that can be adjusted.

Good that it's running well. Funny how complicated specs tables can get and I'm sure we've over-thrashed the subject. Bunch of good engineering ideas.

I noticed in my Ford owner's manual that the specs table for general fasteners has a note. 'Values are for dry threads or threads lubricated with engine oil but not for special or high-pressure lubricants.' The Repair manual table doesn't have that note.

I wipe almost everything with grease that likely qualifies as high pressure before reassembling so at least I wouldn't lose sleep and if I did, I'd just think that these aren't general fasteners anyway. The note carried on to say that 'thick nuts must be used with grade-8 bolts. Don't know how many times I've fished around in the spare hardware box and grabbed any nut that fits. Maybe there should be some lost sleep for me.

I'm a navy ship yard welder/pipefitter. I've done miles of hard facing on casting for the ancor windless and bow casting for the ancor chain. If I rember right, I use 110 tensle strength metal core wire, a metal core wire is a wire with metal powder in the middle like flux but not flux, so there isn't any slag to remove. The reason for the metal powder is that the manufacter can add any hardening, durabilty agent they want in the wire. I think the maker was Tri-mark. I could find out if interested. It was so hard that we changed it over to a softer wire cause it was wearing the ancor chains out. They figured it was cheaper to reface then to replace a chain that one link weighed about 25 lbs. each. Not going to find that at a hardware store.

Haven't heard of that one myself but there are many small fabricators that turn out decent implements. I have another Canadian made one that's going into its fifth winter--a Meteor. It tends to be the high end ones that are discussed here. They are more rugged and may have larger fans and run them at higher rpm. That will give faster ground speeds for clearing heavy snows but also takes more hp. Since I'm driving backwards the my blower cleas most snows faster than I willing to drive anyway and my garden variety blower has done well by me.

Sorry I can't help with specific comments about the blower but I imagine it is similar to my Meteor. Unless I had a lot of drive or special requirements any of these mid-quality blowers should be OK. If you're on gravel, optional wide skid shoes would be good. I don't have them. The gravel has to freeze up and have some snow pack on it before I can use my blower. Hydraulic chute rotators are worth every penny.

I bought a used one(sub-frame) from a dealer for a $100.00, he didn't even know what it came off of, brought it home and match it up to my Ford with a little modification. Better then paying $700, you think?

At least on mine I'd be surprised if I couldn't rig up something from chain hardware from a dealer. Might have to do a bit of looking to find turnbuckles with locking nuts though. I'd take care to keep the same grade mounting bolts. I don't know if the chains are expected to shear to keep things from breaking or not. Still, when all is said and done, chain hardware isn't cheap either and for $80 I wouldn't have to do any looking and fiddling.

I believe that Art threw that wrinkle in before and I forgot it. It's a good one.

Some manufacturers publish rolling circumference or diameter as part of their tire data. I don't know if they're taken from the casing, lugs or something in between.

I wonder what the best strategy is for choosing a tire set that isn't a factory set? I imagine most tractors tolerate the difference between up on the lugs or down on the casings fairly well but whether it's better to pick a tire that would give lead on the high side on the lugs or minimum lead on the casings seems like a decent question. It'd be easy to think that the ratio isn't as important in soft soil since the tires can slip easier, but you'd still get a lot of traction with big weight in the loader. Exceeding the recommended lead when up on the lugs on hard surfaces also doesn't seem like a good idea. Guess my turfs save me from pondering the question.

I,ve been kicking around a idea for a chain harrow that would suspend/mount for the FEL/forks. I'm leveling #4 & #57 limestone gravel. The FEL could raise/lower the harrow and possibly add some down pressure for weight. Another plus would be the operator is looking forward while the harrow is used. Has anybody tried this? What do you think?

My dad had one of these things back when I was a kid, and we split a LOT of wood with that thing. Can't really say that I ever felt safe around it though. The biggest problem that we had was that our wood stove needed short logs, but the screw splitter has trouble splitting them. Longer logs work just fine, but the screw will grab a shorter log and spin it around. I don't ever recall the truck ever getting knocked off the jack, but I did get whacked with spinning logs on several occaisions. I distinctly remember, even as a 12 year old kid, being amazed that this contraption was not illegal. I would definitely reccomend steering clear of this thing if you value the continued use of all of your limbs. Splitting wood with that thing is probably the reason that I prefer splitting with a heavy maul even to this day.

Their prices are sky high-, more than I paid for the tractor . I would like to have some made. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please get out those measuring tapes. <br>

I just found out that the quicktach is needed to run the blade with. That's about a $500 add-on. So, that means the loader comes off. I have the quicktach for my snowblower and I remove the loader completely (1 minute), install the quicktach, which has a hydralic ram to raise/lower the blower or blade and then install the blower onto the quicktach.

That's good to know, Breadboy. I was told by my dealer that they drop the broom to where the brush just starts to touch the pavement and sweep at that height. He said that if it's lowered all the way the brush gets worn out fast.

Have you ever used the broom to de-thatch your grass? If so, how'd it do?

It would depend on what your intended uses are as to if you need it.. It does complicate tire changing and would hinder ride I would believe. It sounds expensive.
