I found a direct replacement pump at Northern. I actually replaced my 8 GPM pump with a 15 gpm. Doubles the ground speed. Low gear still has enough torque for any appliction. High range tops out at 15 mph

A curtis blade for you would be 6 wide, and cost about $1500(MSRP) with the hydro angle feature. Plus another $240 for the quick change brakets for the 430 loader and the cost to have them welded on. You also need to run the hydro lines on the loader from the blade to the connection point on the tractor. I have a curtis blade on my 955. It is a very heavy duty blade. Defendly get the power angle. I paid $1532 for the plow and hydro lines installed on my tractor.

Bliz, you picked up on my comment about doing your own service work and getting to know your own tractor. I do believe tht if you check underneath these tractors and look at the bolts and nuts as to where they are for tightness that when something does go wrong or you hear a strange noise you will be able to find it sooner.

I think the use of the word "limited" refers to the fact that the standards for a Cat. 1 (and all others) are defined by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) people.

I believe those standards include a minimum lift capability, and not just width, height, etc.

Since this machine has only 700 pounds lift capability it might not meet the minimum SAE spec. for such, and so they say it is a 'limited' Cat. 1 3pth.

I can't believe the dimensions would not be standard Category 1 though.

Last followup on this thread...my tractor is back, safe and sound, the dealer FINALLY agreed to submit the warranty work to NH w/o billing me first, and the tractor arrived with all the filters changed, fresh engine oil, and it was only short ONE GALLON of hydraulic oil of even touching the dipstick. Unfortunately, they are the closest NH dealer to me. My warranty is up today, guess I'll have to take most of your suggestions, and do the work on my machine myself!

What do you think about this warranty problem

Provided this is a 4300 4WD Hydro. That is not a bad deal. The tractor is worth around $15,000. Add in all the other stuff and that is still not a bad deal. Before you buy, you may want to get the tractor serial # and run it for any applicable PIP's on the John Deere Web site.

Most all tractors we work with actually feather the pto in with the electric over hydraulic engagement. Some times it might be required to change the valve to be sure that it is not slamming the pto on.

We have quite a few 'cougar' sightings around here also, they are most often seen at malls, fitness clubs, and bars, although these ones seem most attracted by the smell of money, kind of like 'dock beavers' in that respect.

We have lost a few 'old goats' to them also.

Luckily though the sound of a diesel, especially a CUT is most frightening to them, and they quickly retreat. Strange though, certain 4 wheelers seem to attract them, especially the shiny ones like BMW's, Jag's, Mercedes and Land Rovers.

ROFLMAO.

I'll bring the beer, Chief's bringing the leaves, jump-off at 3pm sharp.

It is a compact with side by side seats. it has a 3 point lift and a pto.<br>
I can not find a model# or anything else on it.<br>

Chief, with all due respect, I'll take that bet.

A mature black bear can only achieve about 25 mph, and that takes a bit. Even if he had a a running start it wouldn't be too hard to get there first, especially since I leave the door open.

As for him ramming his skull through the truck door window, that's not likely to happen since a mature male is only about 5' tall standing up, in which position they have very poor balance, they can only run on all 4 feet at which time they are only 3' tall, a dent in the door skin is possible though I suppose. I do know the 'panic' button on my trucks keyless entry system makes more than enough noise to scare a bear off, they seem to learn when very young not to pick a fight with a vehicle.

Careful is very good advise, however let's put the risk in a little perspective here. The following facts are from the United States Department of Agriculture's Forest Service.

Recorded killings by Black bears for all of North America this CENTURY, 28.

The 500,000 Black bears in North America kill fewer than 1 person every 3 years.

Or if you want to compare apples to apples, for EVERY person who is killed by a Black bear, 17 people are killed by spiders, 25 people are killed by snakes, 67 people are killed by dogs, 150 people are killed by tornadoes, 180 people are killed by bee or wasp stings, 374 people are killed by lightning, and 90,000 are murdered.

Before someone says "but what about a mother with cubs?" this is what they say on that subject.

"Unlike grizzly bear mothers, black bear mothers seldom attack people in defense of cubs. Black bear mothers typically bluff or retreat. Researchers who routinely capture cubs by chasing them up trees have not been
attacked even when they have held screaming cubs. The ferocity of mother black bears is one of the biggest misconceptions about this species."

Many of the older tractors used sraight cut gears and often at the right speed or load they do talk. Normally that is not under load but maybe with a changing load. The people that you had asked I hope would have a good knowledge of those tractors and not be saying it because there JD used to do it to or make a simuliar noise.

Ok, I got the fluid thing down. The clutch really acts up when the machine heats up. The dealer I bought the thing from supposedly replaced the clutch assembly before I bought it. I pulled the the gearbox covers off and discovered that at least one of the gears (for the mid range) had no teeth left on it. Interesting to say the least. I called Long and ordered an owners manual (since I didn't have one), a parts and service manual... Needless to say I got 3 different prices for these books, one price when I ordered the books, another price on the receipt that I paid for, and since they sent me 2 owners manuals and no service manual, I got a 3rd price when I called to advise of the mistake. When I questioned why NONE of the prices were even close to eachother, I was told that originally they had to look the price up in a book and made a mistake...Any way I think I ticked the guy off, by questioning what I consider a large discrepancy. I am wrong or what!!
While I am not pleased with having to do a large repair on this tractor, I am even more discouraged with the majority of Long dealers lack of knowledge (see my previous posts)and the inconsistencies with the company itself. Needless to say I still don't have the service manual and my tractor is sitting.

I like the factory set-up as everything is the right size and neat for the installation. You might be able to add your own and save a dollar but the factory units look like they belong there.

There are companies that live on marketing and companies that live on there ability to build a good product, Kubota is not a leader in marketing, just tractors. The BX's are nearly the same except the high back seat and cruise control being added. The new ones will be available shortly after the first of the year.

They are the same at one point or another. You would be supprised as it sounds like you prefer the Blue tractors but some people do prefer the red ones. The newer units will eventually be labeled McCormick.
