Is there any spray that might be shot in the grease fitting hole to loosen up rust or any crud in the top of the knuckle. My thoughts are that the knuckle has never been greased, and water or condensation got inside...

I'm new to tractors and my pucker factor was at an all time high with the front loader....Two wheels off the ground was a real education.....soft spot in the yard.....I walk before I drive now....

Just ordered a 60 inch erskine #600fm for my JD 790.It will be here in a week.yeah, alittle pricey but a heck of alot better built than the 59 inch JD blower !!! Will self install and keep ya-all posted.

Murf and Tom are talking about weekly encounters with bears and knowledge of bears. I certainly would not have wanted a gun hand gun in my pocket when fighting up the mountainside with a large chainsaw in hand. I have had the brush and slash will unclip everything. Would not wear a watch. Unless you know what the leather fringes are for at the bottom of the laces you have no idea. I would give it a probability of 100% that the safety would be switched or you loose the gun. I would place it a bout 50% that you would shoot your self. More precisely the slash would catch the trigger on the non-safe gun. I guess I always had a weapon in hand but he had to get with in 3 ft. I can not say that that it was the bears were the most dangerous things on my agenda during the day.<br>
I have scared my self once or twice where I stepped a little to close to a bear, but as someone mentioned earlier in this post we are a greater threat to bears than they are to us. In any encouter case I was the stupid one and had violated proper procedure with wild bears.<br>
The native population was not on the lunch menu despite having only arrows and pointy sticks. So why do we consider our selves at threat? Knowledge of the wildlife is far more effective that blowing them away.<br>
When I was younger an American was in Skookumchuk with his power boat. The killer whales were playing around his boat and he decided that it was a threat to him. He pulled out his gun, something that was illegal for him to transport into Canada and started blasting away. The killer whale washed up on the beach a day later. Was the large porpose a danger to him or was he and his ignorance a danger to the killer whale? Again within native Coast Salish, Haida, Tsimsan etc. cultures there was no fear of killer whales only reverence.<br>
Fear is a difficult thing to control. I am not against dispatching with problem animals, but normally the problems in bears arise from the foolishness of man. I have had large young wild western black bear(~500lb) with in 6 inches, I felt in danger, but did not think he was threatening me. Certainly startled me though. My first thought was not to fight with the bear, only to extracate my self from a bad situation.<br>
I would not go into deep bear country without a good bear dog as they definately reduce encounters. My brother in-law uses the Catahoula that my niece brought back from here, his lab just doesn't cut it. My mom's wolf/shepherd certainly puts the bears on the run. He kept on treed beside the house a couple of days.<br>
I think you are foolish to believe you can easily bring down a large bear with a 9 mm despite what the Alaska wildlife does with two shotguns aimed at the bear. I have seen a large grizzly brought down with a 30-30 and he had to empty the mag into the heart. Luckally it stood up and walked toward him.<br>
I do not consider myself an expert despite maybe 100 encounters with bears, beyond the crowd at the dump. I do find it upsetting to see people afraid of bears rather than learning the rules and treating them with respect.<br>
In my childhood neighbourhood you went out the back door and had about 3 or 4 road between you and the artic ocean. Although we were aware and wary of bears we still had encounters fishing etc. For example, I went running down Terrace mountain racing ahead of my friends (11 year olds). I jumped over a log and bounded down the wooded hillside. Got to the bottom and looked behind. No friends trailing. I stood there for a few minutes then headed back up the mountain. I got up a ways and found them comming down a little white. I asked them what happened? They said didn't you see the bear that you leaped over. Huh? They sat there until the bear ambled into the woods then followed.

If you plan on burning or chipping the slash, dragging and rolling it across the ground is generally problematic. It won't burn very well if there's a lot of dirt mixed in with it and dirt will screw up a chipper in short order.

What is the going price or trade value on a MF 231 with a MF 232 loader. Tractor is a 1994 model with 160 hrs. Good shape (kept in shed, serviced).

I have had the battery seep electrolyte a few times after a long hot run so I inspect & wash it down good after each use. The steering wheel cap kept falling off but I finally got it to stick. I also had to adjust the throttle linkage to get full rpm. (only took a few minutes) Other than that, it has been great. I have about 88 hours on it now. The battery is the most serious problem and I will eventually replace it with a sealed battery. Love the tractor, does a great job!

There is a difference between a dozer blade and a snowplow, a dozer blade is designed to push, period. A snowplow is designed to flip forward against some springs to allow the blade to ride over an obstacle.

If you use a dozer blade, or a rear blade for that matter, to clear snow be aware that something as small as a hunk of frozen gravel can (and will) cause a lot of damage to the blade, possibly the mount, and also your neck if you're not carefull.

That is a good price for the X595. I use a X485 on 51/2 acres I have a 45loader and alot of other bells and whistles on it and its fine for what I need right now. When I move to my lager place then I will Get Compact Utility Tractor. I think the X585 would be more suited to you needs than a 2210. The JD X585 has alot better ride than a 2210. To me the only real diffrence is the 2210 has a better loader capacity then the X-series. That is if you base it on attachments they both take the same attachments and I think the 2210 has a Higher Limited Cat1 lift capacity. I do like the Joystick on the 2210 for controling the loader over the X-series system. My opinion would be to stick with the X-series for two acres. In my 0pinion for 2 acres unless you really need a higher loader capacity the 2210 is overkill. But as other have said that is what the use. For the price the 2210 though is worth the money because you get alot of standard stuff like both rear and mid PTO and 3point which you have to pay extra for on the X-series. If you add that to the X-series Like I did. You may wish you bought the 2210 series. well good luck in your decision.

I don't know why but a lot of people buy the JD 790 and 990 with a loader and hoe. But it seems they never really like them. A collar shift trans is not your best friend when it comes to loader work. I used to run a 1050 with the same set up. It was a pain, when loading up the topdresser all day at the golf course. Spend a little more and get a 4510-4710 with a hydro trans. It will save you later on in time and agravation.

An umbrella, how on earth do you air condition an umbrella ?

I have heard though that Stetsons are air conditioned using a long neck Bud, but an umbrella ? Maybe a wine cooler would work.......

Just kidding, we adhere to a strict rule, if it has wheeels there's no liquid allowed near it except water or diesel, your choice.......

Redman, if your goal is to cut as much past the outside of the tire as possible, you might want to try a little trick we use for cutting roadsides.

Buy a smaller flail mower, like a 5 footer, really common and fairly cheap, then unbolt the 3pth and banjo (gearbox) complete with the drive to the side plate. Then flip the entire 90 degree drive train over so that it goes out the opposite side of the tractor, this should put it out to your right side now (as you sit on the tractor) and bolt the drive back onto the OUTSIDE of the mower. Now make up, or have made up, an extension to connect the now offset mower to the 3pth and to hold the gearbox, etc.

VOILA!, a large offset mower on the cheap.

If this sounds a little too ambitious you could also pickup an old sickle bar mower, but you wont get as nice a cut and you will have to watch out for obstacles more closely.

Good to clean up my chainsaw info. Don't know about Stihl ownership. I'd heard they were producing a consumer line that isn't as good as the familiar pro models and just assumed a buyout since it's a very common pattern. I think I straightened out the Husky ownership thing. I knew Electrolux bought Husky some years back. I think what happened is that Poulan bought Electolux recently. I sure hope corporate stays out of the chains saw design buz. Somebody came into the Hotel awhile back and said somebody lost his Poulan out of his 1/2-ton bed. 'Maybe a kindness' I said.

Music and numb fingers went together for me. Despite decades of guitar playing almost all the money I made from it was playing congas for singer/writers. Real good time since the songs were good enough that we didn't have to play covers. My sound/lighting buz almost made money but neither work with a day job very well. Conga players do have to learn to take care of the hands and wrists like chainsaw users and sound guys have to take care of their ears--fingers too for some saws.

Tom, it was me who used small studs, the kind used for ice racing motorcycles & ATV's.

Based on LOTS of experience I can definitely say that for clearing snow nothing beats truf tires in overall performance. In really deep snow they may be a little lacking, but chains soon fix that. Chains are also far more effective on turfs since the profile of the tire means more of the chain stays in contact with the ground.

I agree whole-heartedly with Mark, weights are not only more effective, they are MUCH easier to deal with than fluid.

Mark you are right, and the B-7510 is two more inches longer then the 2210, and the same height as the 2210 only with the big tires and wheels!

I would suggest a BX1500 for your application. The BX series is smaller then the 2210 deere so it would help you with visibility in tight quarters. It would also fit into smaller areas for claen-up and they are a full featured tractor. The 2210 is actually closer to the B-7510 size of the Kubota line.

I've not found to many places that cruise is worth it at all if you are driving! There are always holes, divits, dead furrows, stones, and other hazards on the lawn that barring my right leg being cut off would I feel a need for cruise if I'm getting the most from the tractor and equipment. A hydro when being used is good for about a 20% horsepower gain compared to a gear drive and I certainly would be using the tractor transmission to it's advantage.

Does anyone know of a 3 point hitch leaf blower that is a good fit with a 4410? Giant Vac makes one, but it needs 18 PTO HP, I've heard it doesn't work well with the 4110 since it only generates 17 PTO HP.<br>
