I like the 4100 and the 2210 as well...if only I had more land and more to do. My husband thinks I'm nuts for wanting a larger tractor (He's the practical one). He thinks a larger deck makes for a more uneven cut...is this true?? He wants to stay in the 42 inch range, this would be a smaller Garden Tractor GT or GX series(For me... the more bells and whistles it has the better I like it). The X585 or X595...just the right size, 48 inch deck and up, larger (more expensive) bagger system, seems capable of doing what I want and more, but you're right....they are expensive! Thanks for your input!

Mind you the X595 is the top of the line for residential users and a pricey little tractor at around $12,000. You can get off cheaper with a gas engine light duty model.

The denim pants were sold in the logging supply on the west coast. I have not found them in the east. They are much cooler than the polyester and for my mind the best choice. I am not sure that I would wear the chaps, but I guess they are as safe, if you don't fall over from the heat.
Even the pants I have are a bit much in 100 F weather.

I have had 2 tactors of my own that were dry brakes and 2 that are wet. There is a good reason that most of the newer tractor have wet disk brakes vs dry drum.
I had the brakes relined on the 750 the first time I worked on them and then bought JD pads the second as the frames bagan to wear.
I used the tractor loading a lot and therefore used the brakes often. I found it almost impossible to keep the brakes on the one side.
The brake cams also needed to be replace but this required replacing the whole covers at JD pricing. Ouch!!!
The tractor was 15 years old when I sold it. I sold the tractor with less than 500 hours on it.
When the Gentlemen tells me that he has a ridge farm in IN some 70 miles from my Hill Billy farm in KY. I am going to recommend that he invest in the wet brakes. If he chooses to buy the new JD line, NH, or Kioti is no matter to me. If he lived on flatter ground then the 790 would be as good a choice as any, but in that country good brakes are important.
The pricing I got from the NH dealer here for the TC-30 was with in a few dollars of what the JD dealer wanted for the 790, which is a little more than what I see listed for the Kioti.

John Deere makes a ROPS mounted umbrella that you might be able to adapt to your ROPS provided you can get past the color clash. ;-) Part# TY25324 - UMBRELLA cost is $105.60 on JDparts website. You could probably spray paint it with Kubota orange paint and nobody would know the difference. I can make arrangements for the parts counter man to slip you the parts kit out the back door so nobody will see you. ;-)

I was considering purchase of a BX22. I plan to do field mowing (bush hog) on a 2 acre lot also. The BX23 is reported to have cruise control. Current price on the BX22 is $16,000. Does anyone know what the price will be on the new BX23. Also would the cruise control be worth the wait? The dealer projected Jan. 2004.

Art, the figures I have show the BX 2200 has a 55 inch wheel base and the other two are at 57 inches...... not a big difference.

Also the weights are very close: the BX is listed at 1300 pounds, the MF at 1367 and the Deere at 1400. Again, not a real big difference.

My 4100 had a collar shift. It was set up so that you could shift between 3rd and 4th, and low and high, without coming to a complete stop.

Wow! Thx for all the responses. Sure helps to have the wisdom of others a key stroke away. The input will help me make a selection. I like the fact that the engine speed can be maintained for PTO operation yet my ground speed can vary. Cruise control was mentioned in one response. Is this an option or a standard with a hydro transmission? I was also wondering about 03' vs 04' models. This wasn't mentioned in the quoute I received from the dealer. Should I expect to get a better deal on an 03' model or doesn't it matter?

Back in the late seventies many of the companies were tring to figure out what we valued for features on tractors and would we except what they were using. Yours is one of those that were sold here. It isn't grey market it just has some unique characteristics to it.

How much equipment do you have with your 3000, and how much will be compatible with the TC29/30? I have a 2240 JD (little bigger than a 3000) and a B7800 Kubota. I have a lot of equipment that works great with the JD, but would totally overwhelm the Kubota e.g. 287 (7') bushhog, heavy duty 6'box blade, 8 disc Talorway harrow, etc. I would evaluate how much of your existing equipment could be used on your new tractor before making any purchases. By the way, I'm not very familiar with late model blue tractors, so it is possible my comments are without merit - I was thinking the models you mention are basically the same size as my Kubota, if not please disregard.

This company has two toothbar models that fit over buckets both with and without bolt-on cutting edges. I don't own one but I found them on the web and am thinking of buying one. I like the fact that their toothbar has an adjustment that pulls it really tight against the edge of the bucket. The only problem is that they don't seem to answer their email so you'll probably have to call 'em if you're interested.

Yes, that sounds like a good deal. If you subtract the extras and the T/L/B comes in in the $15K range you are doing very well I think.

If your primary concern is tractor stability, fluid filled tires might work for you as long as you understand that you give up the ability to change or move the tires afterward, unless you are better than I am at moving 400-500 pound objects with your hands.<br>

Also keep in mind that tire chains are designed to increase traction through UNCLEARED snow and are of little value if your tires are running on a cleared path behind a blade or a snow blower. They must have something to sink into if they are to work properly.<br>

Same reasoning for R-1 (AG) tires. In mud or on soft moist ground there is nothing better, but they are nearly useless on wet asphalt or ice.

The advatage of one to the other is strickly horsepower to me. Any way you look at the units they are nearly identical, about the same weight so the ability to pull is about the same, for the driveshaft you would notice the difference in the horsepower. But then why not a 3430?

Sounds like we may have similar systems. I used a 60A-generator panel that runs as a branch circuit from a 200A-combination service panel. I installed the new service and panels so I had to rewire the branch circuits anyway. The 60A panel was cheaper than a 200A-transfer switch so I just wired most of the existing wiring on the generator panel.

I too distributed circuits that supply motors across the both phases. I put an electric water heater and stove on the generator, but the dryer a few new basement circuits and out buildings are on the main panel. I figured it might be nice to have a hot shower during a long outage but I do have to remember to shut off the water heater as part of switching to generator. My wife wrote herself a 'how to' note.

The generator feed to the panel is about 100' and I used 10-gauge wire rated for 30A. The generator mains are 22.5A so it meets codes for long runs, but barely. It's adequate but larger feed wiring may provide better surge capacity, and that's about the only thing I'd do differently. In my case the generator mains rather than the panel breaker provides protection but I could still ruin the generator by prolonged operation above its continuous power rating. I know when the generator is into its peak range because it surges against its governor.
