Welcome the the board! It doesn't get anywhere near that cold where we are, but having been around here for awhile I have learned a few things. I'll ramble a bit, then those who have more experience will probably chime in.

Calcium chloride is commonly used to melt ice and it will do so at something like -60 degrees F. I'm sure a suitable solution of it will work fine at -25 but I'm not sure what percentage solution would be required for your expected temperatures. The tire guys in your area will know what works. I would think CC would be better than antifreeze in this application. It's heavier and has a lower freezing point.

Recent discussions here have revealed that the block heaters that mount in freeze plug holes are more effective than the magnetic oil heaters. The oil heaters will heat the oil but the block heaters heat the engine. Kubota likely has a block heater available for your machine.

You will need to use a diesel fuel conditioners with anti-gel properties to keep the wax in the fuel from solidifying. Check the bottles for amount required to keep your fuel fresh and be sure to treat the tank and spare fuel both. The fuels and lubrication forum has voluminous discussions of these conditioners.

That's how mine are set and it does seem more stable, beings I have R-1's I could get a little more rear width by inverting ring section on wheel dish, but then I wouldn't be able to cover my tracks with brush cutter.

I am toying with the idea of getting a chipper. The good American made chippers (Bearcat, Harper-Goosen, Valby) are all in the $3000-3500 range for something that will chip 5+ inches. Most of the chinese tractor dealers are selling a Jinma chipper which claims up to 6" capacity, power feed, and a blower for less than $2000. Does anyone here have any experience with these chippers? We are in the process of thinning our heavily overgrown woods and my wife is complaining of all the smoke from burning but I need to watch the budget. Most of the 4" or larger stuff is firewood, but I'm thinking of chipping the rest.

Well, I have 12 hours on this new tractor and am pleased with it. I have tried out the backhoe, chipper shredder, log splitter, fel, box blade, and forks. In regards to the chipper it is a Woods 5000. It worked really well chipping and pretty well shredding, however you do not want to put branches in with vines on it. It clogged up and stalled out the tractor. It only took a few minutes to unfasten two bolts and clean out the vine debris. It has a pretty powerful pull for shredding, it felt like it was going to yank me in. The log splitter is a Spee Co (made in Golden Colorado), a hydraulic driven one that attaches to the 3 point hitch. It worked great. You can operate it verticle or horizontal. My son (with my supervision) loved using it. Have not posted pictures yet, but will soon.

There is more to using Calcium Chloride in tires than just as an antifreeze solution. Calcium Chloride solution weighs up to fifteen pounds per gallon. This gives a lot of weight from the fluid that is used. Windshield washer and regular antifreeze solutions weigh less than half of that amount per gallon. A tire filled with those solutions would weigh half of the calcium filled tire. In my opinion, if you are going to give up that much ballast, don't use fluid at all...use steel weight.

Calcium chloride is a safe "salt" material. It is more corrosive than windshield washer solution and regular antifreeze, but tractors have been using it for decades without severe problems. Changing a tire does not get easier with ANY fluid used, so there is no advantage for windshield washer solution or regular antifreeze for punctures either.

I'd agree with the warm cab deal. Clogged chutes have never been a concern.

Long driveways with pickup truck plows can be a real problem if there is not enough push back room. My neighbor ran out of room this spring. I pushed it all back both sides of a 1 mile drive. Actually 3 neighbors called for help to get their banks back.

I really like the plow it a few times, with what ever, get a nice wind row then BLOW IT!!! B 4 the banks get to high or wide. A nice sunny day is a good time to Blow snow.

Thanks again Art for a good blower that does a great blow job ;-). It is all apart now, new shoes, cutter, drive chain. Want to get it sand blasted and painted but may run out of time.

Like peters said only stick a pointy thing in the hole and wiggle it around. Is there a hole there? Is it full of old hard dried grease?<br>

Maybe the new nipple bad too. You can try and clear a nipple by sticking it in your grease gun...If it does not clear stick a slim pointy thing into the top of it the little ball bearing might be rusted. Hold nipple in vise or vise grips not in the palm of your hand to try this... ;-)

You will not regret your purchase of a Cub. Here in the northeast, many landscapers use Cubs. I have a 7360 that I bought with only 90 hours and I use it as a farm tractor. It has never seen a shop. :-) These Cubs were built by Mitsubishi and they are every bit as good as green or orange... and some of us think even better! Enjoy yours!

It is a boom connection for a "cherry picker". Kinda like an engine hoist boom. It also is the receivcer for the gooseneck ball mount.

There are two things you really need. Both which you can charge a premium for. 1st get a hardy power box rake. 2nd a turbo turf hydro seeder. I am hoping i can get both of these next year for my business. The power box rake does several jobs at once. Tills the soil, remove vegiation, levels ground, removes rocks, makes a seed bed. The hydro seeder helps in, getting the grass to come in sooner. Sometimes 3 days, if you preemerge the seed, I have seen it done. People like that green look of the hydro mulch, sso they will pay extra. This was how i was taught to put in lawns. The people around here, just use a york rake, brodcast spread the seed, lay hay, and tack it with hydro seed. Maybe this is why most of my mowing accounts have crapy lawns. Alot of them want there lawns to look like mine, all bright green grass.

I have a john deere toro craftsman lawn vac. I got a craftsman lawn vac for a 18 cu ft cart for free. Witch i modifited to a toro 24 cu ft cart. Then made a mounting bracket for the fan and motor to fit on the back of my JD 214. Works real well. When i get a chance i post some pictures.

Tom is sure right about the creeper issue. The other day I was pressure washing mud that plugged my R4 tires. I had my wife washing them while I slowly backed up - and with the eHydro I could back up at an incredibly slow rate, probably 1-2 feet a minute. The speed control was fantastic.

Well, let's be a little careful here. The question is whether an under-powered generator setup is bomb proof and if not do you want to run a risk. I'd take a careful look at eny electric motors run, what there start up surge requirements are and what's the potential for them starting at the same time. In thinking about risks, it's good to keep in mind that people don't think the same during power failures; the generator may not always be attended and people other than yourself may turn things on and off.

The risk is that if a load lugs the engine the AC frequency falls off and power draw increases. There's a chance that the load wouldn't pop a circuit breakers nor be enough to kill the tractor engine. In that circumstance, an electric motor could burn up.

Probably not a huge potential for that happening but it might be good to think whether you want to protect yourself against any potential. Smaller main breakers or a separate disconnect would provide protection. On the other hand, a large generator reduces the chance of inadvertently running a generator for prolonged periods in its peak rather than continuous power range, and that's a plus.

Josh As far as the length of the grass goes it is as the others have said. The only thing I can add is don't cut it an then start your project as fresh cut grass is the most vulnerable, if you cut it wait at least two to three days ( or till tip of grass blade turns brown or skabs over) before subjecting it to traffic. The blue poly tarps do make clean up alot easier. Good luck
