I'm not sure what you're looking for, but some research on tractortips turned up that the 1910 was manufactured from 1983-1986. It has a 3 cyl Shibaura 103.9 ci engine with 23 PTO hp and it cost around $9700 new. I don't know if they're a "good tractor" or not but Ford/NH still uses Shibaura engines and it's probably fairly well built. Any used tractor can be good or bad depending on hours and how it was stored and maintained.

First thing I would suggest is to check this out with your dealer. Sounds to me like your clutch may not be adjusted properly or the clutch is hanging up. This would be pretty unusual on a machine so new. Now if you let the clutch out in neutral at operating rpm and attempt to immediately engage a gear, you are going to grind. This is typical of gear collar shift transmissions. Usually holding the clutch in for an extra few seconds allows the gear shafts to slow down and allow a proper shift. I am not sure which is the case with your situation. If you cannot get the trans in gear without grinding under any circumstances, something is definitely wrong. Have you reviewed the owners manual for shifting gears? The manual makes an "important" box note about shifting:

Operating Collar Shift Transmission

IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! To prevent transmission damage:

� Always depress clutch pedal when changing forward travel speeds while the tractor is moving.

� Depress clutch pedal and stop tractor motion before shifting range shift lever or changing direction.

� Never rest a foot on the clutch pedal while tractor is traveling.

1. Pull down on clutch pedal and measure the free travel distance (A) that the pedal pivots from top of stroke to the point before clutch engagement occurs.

2. Adjust clutch if free travel is greater than 25 mm (1 in.).

If not it needs to be adjusted to between 5/8" & 1".

A certain amount of grinding here and there occasionally is to be expected but the description you give leaves me wondering. Every gear shift tractor I have owned was like this. My Kubota L245would grind due to a hanging clutch which neccessitated my starting it in gear with the clutch in and never letting the clutch out in neutral if possible. My Cub 154 Loboy would grind just a little if you tried to shift too fast after depressing the clutch from neutral. (just had to clutch and wait for the gear train to come to a stop by watching the clutch assy. & then shift)

Hope I have not confused the issue more. Best bet is to discuss this with your dealer first to go over all the possible reasons and go from there. Good luck on reaching an answer and solution. Let us know what was the problem. Nice tractor by the way and welcome to the board!

From my research when I was shopping for my tractor, the 60 inch standard bucket weighs 211 lbs versus 240 lbs for the heavy duty. Price difference for the heavy duty, depending on where and whom you're dealing with can vary from $50 to $200. Many dealers opt to order their tractors with heavy duty buckets only and everything I'm told indicates that the heavy duty buckets are well worth the extra dollars.

Brush bandit is the way to go. I have friends both in the tree trimming and land clear businesses. Every chipper that ether of them own is a brush bandit. Between the two of them they have a 1-6",1-9",2-12",1-18" Intimidator, and 1-19" tracked chipper. Bandit makes a tractor mounted chipper in 6",9"and 12".

yea, water and anti-freeze. i got a few loads of rock and sand and it seemed alright, but i did have the box blade on also.

It got to be green or i am not using it. Well not really, i have used blue, orange and green. if you will be using a loader a lot, get a hydro. The twin petals on a deere are easyer to use than a single petal on a kubota. I wouldn't know on a new holland, i only used gear versions. The joy stick on a deere is mounted to the tractor so you can leave your arm on the arms rest and still use it. A kubota's joy stick is mounted on the loader so you have to reach for it every time you want to use the loader. A JD 4600 or 4610 w/460 loader will work just find. Spend a little more and you get it back in easy of use

That is to only way to go. I always put a tarp down to place dirt on, not the grass. My customers will bitch at anything. The clean up is real fast, just like what you did.

Definately stacking square bales is one of the worst jobs on the farm. Although you really only need them for horses today.
I can remember the large dairy farms and enormous stacks of hay in the barn. It about kills me to load 100 bales in today.
I bought bales off a different farmer this year, smaller bales. Farmer Brown like the large bales. They nearly killed me lifting the 70-80 lb bales over my head to fill the barn loft.
The other big no no with piglets is bottle feeding. It is very difficult to make bacon after raising them on the bottle. Much more personality than a cow, become more like killing the dog.

Hi all, havent been here in awhile. I am waiting for a manual for a L2201DT that I have aquired (YES, I KNOW it is a grey market tractor, it was obtained legally, just so I dont have to read a dozen messages about that). I wanted to change and check fluid levels before cold weather gets here. What oil should I be using for engine (diesel, 4WD) and in the transmission. Transmision has no dip stick. There is a fill cap on top of tranny just under front of seat. Should that be full to top?<br>

Cyberweld.com is a great net site. Free shipping on everything. They sell miller 2050 plasma cutter for $2186. I have bought stuff from them, there great plus no tax. Millers are the way to go, look at any welding shop all the new welders are millers. My next welder will be a miller 251 w/spool gun

Not exactly about GRASSCAR, but a followup to rookie's question about Mark's scraper. I was in my dealer today looking at pallet fork brochures and came across one that listed the tow behind scraper-on-wheels. They're called DRAG SCRAPERS. FWIW.

have a John Deere 1050 in good shape. I bought it missing the steering wheel cap. I ordered a replacement from a JD dealer but it does not fit. The cap is to big for the openning in the steering wheel. The parts book shows only one cap made for the 1050. The steering wheel looks orginal. Would anyone owning a 1050 be able to get a back side diameter measurement off their 1050 cap and post that measurement in response to this message. That may confirm as to whether the steering wheel is OEM or a replacement. Thanks<br>

I used to get at least one cold/flu/whatever each year that would put me down and out for 10 days to 2 weeks. I tried everything: echinacea, C, zinc, etc. etc. None of that stuff ever had even the least effect.

Last year I found out about Zicam, a zinc-based nasal gel which is clinincally proven to stop colds. I didn't believe it, but sure enough, it stopped a major cold dead in its tracks, and has worked just as well for everyone I've told about it.

You can find it in any drugstore chain, costs about $8-9 for enough to CURE 2 colds.

OK Billy, I took it as an idea, if you knew me you'd realize that NOTHING is impossible.

As an engineering student my professor used to drill into our heads "Nothing is impossible, somethings just seem to cost more than they are worth." so I'm programmed to find a way to do things, not say that's impossibl;e.

Besides, it's a common thing around here to reclaim irrigation and dewatering pipes for fence posts, so it didn't even phase me.

Beers on me, but be careful, it's the good Canadian stuff, we use it to stop charging bears, doncha' know......
