Sorry it looks like this is another post that fell through the cracks. I think the steering pinned to one side was Sandie's problem and we haven't heard any more about it.

AC pretty much summed up what I'd say and you might see if you can get some satisfaction from where the tractor was bought. It's hard to say without knowing the setup but the PS on my Ford requires a sizable tear down to do most anything and a few special tools like pullers as well. The MF's PS may be easier but you might have to be fairly experienced and equipped to do the work yourself. Having a repair manual is a good idea.

There is the possibility that it's not the PS at all but that the steering is binding going in one direction. A possible clue here is that my Ford PS makes hydraulic noise when it is activated and I can hear the engine throttle change when at slow idle RPM. If my PS steering wasn't working in one direction and I still heard the hydraulic sound I'd suspect the PS is working but the steering is binding. Binding steering could be anything from the steering sector to the wheels.

It has a front snow blower? One of the lighting problems for a blower is that if the lights are behind the blower and high enough to shine over it, the lights tend to shine on the flume coming out of the chute and not much else can be seen. That would sure be the case with my rear work light on the ROSP and 3ph blower. If the lights are behind the blower, it's best if they shine under the flume.<br>

I bought a headlight of the type seen on truck snowplow blades and was going to mount it on a front corner of my blower and run extension wiring from my work light circuit. As it turns out I don't have to blow snow at night so the light still sits in its box.<br>

Radio long story short on the loader capacity, valves were set low from factory I had dealer bump pressure up. There are mixed opinions on this board about this but, I have had no problems. I have been extremely happy with the NH as well as my dealer. My tractor has 250hrs on it. I did not like supersteer because I do mostly loader work and SS decreases loader lift capacity and I think, makes it harder to work in confined spaces. Youy might consider SS if you plan on doing alot of mowing. I looked at orange ,green and blue, Price was not an issue for me I was more concerned with value and what I got for my money. I did not like the fit and finish of the Kubota and the deere had too much electonics and was alot more expensive with no real advantages for the higher price. I maintain 4 acres w/ horses 350ft stone drive ect.. and have never felt I needed a larger tractor. A larger tractor will be harder on your lawn.

Sounds OK and the tractor should do the work. I don't know if the implements come with the tractor or you already have them. A 6' blade probably is manageable but I'd check the 3ph capacity to ensure it would carry the particular sprayer. I don't know how wide the rear tractor tires are but it's good to have a mower that covers them. One that barely covers the tracks might leave a lot of trimming since you can't mow close to fences etc.

Comparing NA to NZ prices is a little dicey. A better comparison is with alternatives in your area. Used compacts tend to be rare so there may be nothing to compare it to locally. In that situation, a comparison is with something further away plus shipping costs. An economist probably would throw in costs for the time it takes to look and for the risk of buying something unseen. I had neither time nor alternatives when I bought mine. I did trust a dealer who is about a couple hours away and wasn't disappointed. A sense of trust and a good local reputation are pretty good measures.

The hour thing is that the tractor likely has a 3-digit proof meter that starts over again after 999. Sound like the meter shows very low hours and the dealer guesses it had turned over twice but maybe three times.

There may be some maintenance costs to absorb around those hours. I'd talk with the dealer to get a read on what to expect--some injector work and maybe the hydraulic pump. Art would know maintenance expectations of these tractors, but I think the engine and drive train can be expected to go for quite awhile before rebuilds are expected.

Bulldog Me thinks you have all the tire you're gonna stuff under the fenders. You can get chevron type tires for it and may be able to stuff alittle more under there. But for more tire (wider) you may have to get new wheels.

As Mark said, you can't get the steering angle with bigger tires. 4 wheel steering would help that, but you would be taking a solid rear axle and adding high torque CV joints steering joints, and all the equipment to cause the wheels to articulate (assuming that you aren't talking about an articulating frame).

I think that it is a matter of cost compared to the benefit, among other things. I would expect a 4WS 4WD tractor with a straight frame and large tires at both ends to cost at least 30% more than a similar CUT.

Smaller tires also make it easier to get on and off the tractor without making it longer and give better visibility when using a FEL. Putting larger tires on the front would move the CG of the tractor forward and would potentially require more ballast for FEL work. As Mark also mentioned, the FEL would have to be larger to work over the tires, and this also would move the CG even further forward.

Now with respect to steering, I can lock a rear wheel brake and swing the front end around and pivot on a rear wheel. If the front had large lug tires, that would be impossible. I also think that the extra complexity of high torque articulated axles on front and rear would add up to a significant increase in maintenance costs.

I am buying a new tc21d and my dealer said the 12la fel he got for it will not fit and he was searching for a 7306? fel. is there a difference in these loaders beside the mounts? He stated i could not have the belly mower and the fel hooked up at the same time if he installed the 12la fel. He said it was a serial # thing? The only other fel i see used on the tc21 is a 7106. Can anyone help me?

Since other mfg. still offer 30 HP in economy models for around the same price as the 790, JD may have just made a popular model for them much less desirable !<br>
They already were offering lower lift capacities and dry brakes vs wet brakes, but now lower HP ratings also as compared to the competition.

If you used hardfacing on one side of the blade only, you would put a lot of heat into the blade and I expect that it would shrink on the hardface side and you would probably get severe warpage. The hardface would crack, which is OK, but it would be very difficult to control.

Case hardening whether it is done by a blacksmith or with an oxy-ac torch and casenite will heat the blade evenly and warpage should not be a problem.

I do remember a project that I had years ago where we cut a groove in a piece of steel and filled the groove with stellite to make a long lasting cutting edge. That might work, because it would be completely inset, but it would probably be too expensive for commercial sales. I have also designed self sharpening cutting edges for medical devices, but they rely on metal to metal contact to control the wear surface. I don't know of a way to do that on a blade that swings freely through brush.

I am not really the right person to answer this as I have not looked at the tractor yet. I would think that you would like something that provides you a little more flexibility.
PTO HP is only 17.7 and I made the same mistake with my first CUT. It is a little light for heavy grass and will not spin any thing more than a 4ft rotory cutter. Your rear tread is likely wider than that so it is difficult to pick up and provide a good cut. There are few accessories and no post hole digger.
The tractor sits a little low to be able to run all 3 pt attachments. I would be worried about the low ground clearance as snow or a little mud could easily have you dragging bottom.
Looking at the specs I think the tractor is just the 755 brought back with a slightly smaller engine and smaller tires.
I would look for something that has a PTO HP of at least 20 HP. In the Deere like this puts you in the 4115. From what I am aware it is a similar price.
There are a number of other makes that would provide a similar size and price.

I agree with Peters,in the 12K range with loader in good condition.
If the asking price is 10K and in good condition,sounds like a good price.

My local JD dealer has forks that go on the bucket for around $300 - they said the forks are rated for 1000 lbs but the bucket would deflect before that load is reached even with my HD bucket. That kind of capacity would be inadequate for my needs even with half pallets.

I agree that loader forks would probably be more useful in the long term but at twice the price I'm leaning toward 3ph forks. I wouldn't use loader forks for brush since I have a grapple that works great for that purpose.

It is very encouraging to hear that your supplier would make half pallets for you. I'll give 'em a call to see if they can do that for me. That would be a real back saver. Thanks a lot for the info!
