Ro-pel will keep them from chewing on the door. It is a taste deterent and does not affect animals that don't chew.

I use a combination of traps and poison. There are also electric zapper traps that are supposed to be very effective. Mark put up a link a while back on the electronic traps.

Cats are a good alternative if they know what mice are and what they are supposed to do with them. Some cats think food only comes from a can, so it is good to get a farm cat.

Check out Lawnsite. I believe that this is the main forum for commercial mower questions. A couple of my neighbors have Encore WBs and like them, although I do not know anyone using the Prowler ZT. I own a Gravely 36" WB, which naturally I prefer. Any ZT mower is a major investment so you are wise to get opinions before taking the leap.

As far as I know none of the very old AC tractors can be converted to 3PH including the WD45. It is possible that there is a kit out there, but I doubt it.

On those tractors a brush hog pulled from the drawbar was used that had wheels and a remote hydraulic cylinder for lifting the unit. That type of brush hog is certainly still available new or used. This was the standard configuration for many (most) brush hogs prior to the widespread use of 3PH.

I got one of these for $99 and although it is not the highest quality shelter in the world; it has been up all summer and has held up well. It can support a light snow load with a bit of support on the center pole. Might be worth it for a temporary shelter. It does completely enclose the equipment. I can put my 4410 in it and still have room for a small tractor just barely. The support ropes did not last long as the sun deteriorated the rope material and they crumbled. Not bad for an EL CHEAPO.

Definitely sounds like you cleaned the store out! ;-) Nice tractor, accessories, and chainsaw. Should still have time for one more grass cut. I have a Stihl O-66 that I have had for about 10 years and it still works and runs great. I am surprised the dealer didn't try to sell you a John Deere chain saw. Can you post some pics of the Kevlar hose covers? Those sound like a good idea! If you are like me, you have either thought about or tried to park it in the bedroom for the night. ;-) Enjoy!

I am not sure how you get the 2X factor. A Kioti 2554 is in the 10K range with out the FEL or backhoe. The JD 790 and NH TC-30 although larger tractors are not much more.
If you want minimal service and greater repair responsibiliy at a lower price you might consider the Power Trac tractors. I believe you can get a tractor with features near that price from them. At least they are American built rather than Chinese. Personally I would rather support the boys in VA.

Just bought my tractor and didn't realize that the power steering is only working in one direction. Is there a simple solution or is it a major deal to correct.<br>

Okay...
The noise was intermittent and never long enough to really figure out where it is coming from , other than close to the clutch area.
I lifted the tractor's rear end with the backhoe, and put it in reverse gear. I then put on my stethy' and listened for wierd sounds...figures - nothing.
It seemed to be primarily when I travelled in reverse in high range, so I decided to start out at idle speed (1000rpm) and drive around in reverse until I heard the noise, keeping the stethy' around my neck just in case it came back. When I got the rpm upto about 1800, the noise started to come out. I quickly, still driving in reverse, started to probe the various housings with my stethy' to find the failing area. Well, that was a futile effort -never found a "bad" sound wailing out at me. I then increased the throttle progressively up until the squealy moan was nearly constant. By now I was around 2800 revs. Within five minutes the noise subsided. I continued to cruise in reverse in the back yard plot,hoping to regain the noise. It was gone. After a couple of neighbors came over and stared at me for a bit racing around in reverse, I shut her down and drove back to the garage, without anymore noise,from the tractor or the neighbors (lol).
An hour later, I drove her again, with almost an immediate squealy moan, now in forward as well. Unlike before, now as I shift up, I can hear the pitch of the noise go higher as well. OK, I thought we're on to something here. Back and forth driving to decipher where it was coming from...now even when the tranny was in neutral or not it was talking to me. Hmmm, I thought. I'll shut it down and coast down the yard, with the engine off,clutch in and/or out. Sure as shootin', the noise was there. ARRRGH! Still trying to find it. Stay tuned -

Me & my wife have 10ac of land that we are building a house on about 40% done and want to buy a tractor for bush hoging about 6ac of land and cleaning up our dirt road with a box blade. And moveing dirt around for a moto cross track after the house is finshed.<br>

I got a price on a kubota 3130 with a LA 513 loader <br>
5'box blade and a 5' rhino SE5 for a total cost of $19,390.00 I priced the same set up at 3 outher dealers<br>
and they were like $2,200 more then the $19.390.00<br>

So I would like to know is this a good price and a good setup for the long run do not want to have to turn around 5yrs from now and buy all new again.<br>
If it makes a diff for price I live in florida.<br>

I think you were meaning a B2910? The tractor is worth around $12,500. The loader is gravy. That is not a bad price. Anything else, like manuals or spare parts come with it? If this machine meets your needs and your liking; go for it.

the rear pto is always running. Im pretty sure that this solenoid on the valvebody controls the pto engagement, i pulled the coil off and it energizes and de-energizes with the switch fine.

One subject that many on the board seem concerned about is loader lift capacity. SS definately decreases lift ability. I have a TC33D, I have never felt that I would be better off with SS. I tested both before I bought and did not like SS for loader work. I do not mow with my tractor. Anyone trying to decide should test both for themself before buying.

It is failing the fact that when you push the pedal down it does not engage very often,sometimes the gears rake when it is trying to engage,I looked at the previous set that was replaced and the gears were worn on the edge.I used the differental lock a lot the 1st time it failed and I paid for it myself,when I got the tractor back I was conscious not to abuse it and not use it anymore than absolutely nessecary.
The 1st time it failed it probably had 200 to 300 hours on it(I would have to look at my paperwork to be sure).
I use my tractor to do a lot of log skidding and back blading.I admit I use it pretty hard a times. It has performed well in all other aspects,other than the rear wheel bolts want to come loose on occasion,I started using the the red thread locktite and hopefully it will work.

We used some in high stress applications, trannys, axles, etc., but not in the engines, mostly because of cost.

Our machinery mostly runs under what would be best described as 'extreme conditions' by anyones standards, long hours in choking dust, deep mud or blinding snow storms. Oil changes are often done more than once per WEEK based on accumulated run times.

We buy Shell Rotella 15w-40 in bulk from our distributor, we have a bulk tank in the shop and a smaller one in the service truck for on-site maintenance. It goes into absolutely EVERYTHING, even the Kohlers on our mowers and my wife's V-12 BMW. Never had a problem yet.

Dave, I drive heavy vehicles for several reasons.
1. Safety for me and people riding with me.
2. I live on a dirt road in the desert.
3. I am a big guy and I don't fit comfortably into a small truck.
4. I live out of town, I need to have a vehicle that will carry a load.
5. I like them.

The tax situation is nice, but really would not change what I drive, or how I drive it.

I did come up with such a device a number of years ago, it was to mainain the long driveway and trails at our hunt camp. It would be easily adaptable to a CUT but was originally designed to go behind a pickup.

It was basically just a very long trailer tongue if you will, arched way up in the middle and at the very back was the front axle out of an old 3 ton (2WD) truck which was mounted rotated backwards on an angle of 45 degrees. This allowed the steering to also swivel the wheel off vertical to increase the 'bite' of the tires when making an agressive bite along the shoulder, like when you want to pull the gravel back up onto the road. Halfway between the axle and the hitch was the blade which rotated only on the horizontal plane. The vertical adjustment of the blade, as well as the pivot functions were accomplished by hydraulically pivoting a pair of hinged joints on which the axle was mounted which increased or decreased the amount of the arch. All of this was controlled by the operator who stood on a small platform at the very rear looking forward and down over everything. The hydraulics were powered by a gas engine driving a two stage hydraulic pump like that used on a wood-splitter.

I only used it one year myself, when the local road contractor saw it work he bought it on the spot, I understand he is still using it to this day to maintain private drives and roads.

The biggest advatage was it could be pulled by any pickup, however a heavy 4x4 worked best, both for traction and the ability to roll along slowly in low range. Even though this meant it required a two man crew, it also meant it go between jobs at highway speeds, something the little 'Pony' graders can't do and the savings in travel time and expense more than made up for the 2 men's time.
