Eeglot, tractor was delivered today and I just finished using the loader for about an hour. I didn't notice the noise you heard. I asked the dealer about it. He said he hadn't heard anything about that either. I'll post here if anything changes.

I don't have any problems with gas engines, but you will never see them last as long as a Diesel or have as good of a torque band especially with air cooling.

That is not bad gas mileage for a vehicle that heavy. You need that 572 cubic inch Chevy crate motor or a tricked out 6.5 litre turbo diesel to move that H2 along. ;-) I was pulling your leg as Arianna is one of the political types trying to out law SUV's and I was thinking the same thing as you with the driving the Arnolds H2 through the tax loop holes she takes. LOL! If I could afford it, the wife would be driving a Powerstroke powered Excursion. I like having lots of steel around the wife and I driving down the road.

The 790 rims wiht the R-4 s are not type that are on some of the big farm tractor rims where the outside of the rim can be removed and reattached but instead they are "dished". So if you have the dish facing out you are in the wide stance and if the dish facing in you are in the narrow stance.

They are almost like the wheels on most of our dually pickups, you run them "dished in" in the front and "dished out" in the rear. This way you only need one type of spare.

Also if you look at the rear wheels on a dually the outside wheels on either side are dished out and the inside wheels are dished in.

well, as the subject states, the rear pto won't shut off, its definatly not electrical from what ive sourced. Ive traced it so far to the (im assuming) PTO valve body on the right side of the transmission, it recives a line from a pump on the engine, and has a solenoid on it also. When i pull the PTO switch, the solenoid engergizes fine, but i hear no clicking in the valve body, something pluged? help?

Murf, weight is a very big deal.

I have a lightened VW bug that is set up for desert racing. It will drive over sand that will sink most 4WD trucks. It is still 2WD, but with the big tires, light weight and resulting floatation, it rides over the top of things. Combine that with an overbored stroked VW engine and you have something that can really get the adrenaline flowing. (Like your boat, I expect)

I had a similar vehicle (only open framed) in Illinois years ago and I would run that through muddy corn fields for fun. The suspension would just work up and down over the bumps (corn rows) and the big tires kept it from sinking into the muck. I could lift the front end of that vehicle with my bare hands.

Ive had this same problem, replaced the fuel and air filter (need that bad) and it was quite a bit better, but usuall in C range it will bog down bad sometimes, especially when going up a hill, I have a loader and backhoe on it to. Its a hydro trans. also. I still dont know what it is, I will check the brakes though.

At what amount of slipage of the rear will the front engage and is it a lock up to the factory balance of front to rear or does it actually run slower at the percentage of spin. Another manufacturer had a front end with an auto engage but the fronts turned four percent slow compared to the rear.

Hi Mark and KWS. I live in Louisiana. Sometimes I work on wet ground, but not deep mud. I plow ditches and a small garden, and whatever the neighbors can dream up. Lots of dusty FEL and mowing work. Yea, the TC35 will be in Friday and I should get a ride by Tuesday. I'm calling my guy to call off the fluid. I think they are hard on the clutch anyway. If the bigger tires and wheelbase still pound me, I'll let off some air. Kind thanks for all the info!

After you have fun doing something with the tractor, it is useful to splash a little water and dust on your face and clothing. Follow that up by collapsing into a comfortable chair and having a cold beer. If you can manage a nap after using the tractor the effect would be complete.

Disclosing these techniques to non CUT users is punishable by having to share your tractor and increasing the size of your "honey do" list.

The wood is a lot like black walnut. Very hard and dense, but with less inclusions. Our orchard is all grafted, and where the wood goes through the graft there is a significant color change from a dark walnut to a golden streaky color. Unusual to be sure. It planes nice and seems to be good to work with. I'm thinking this is a good excuse to buy a portable bandsaw mill. Of course the bigger problem in marketing the wood is properly drying and storing it beforehand. Thanks for the input.

There are actually three numbers Deere publishes for the 790: Gross, Net and PTO horsepower.

Deere has begun to publish these figures for all the small tractors, although with most the difference between Gross and Net HP is about 1/2HP, not the 3 horse drop listed for the 790.

I have to say I do not understand the distinction, maybe Gross is engine output and Net is what you get at the wheels?

Murf, Seems to me many people with gravel roads to maintain could use an inexpensive grader..... something along the lines of a rear blade with gauge wheels only modeled along the lines of the old horse drawn units.

I have a half baked design I can send you pictures of....

We have such a database here in Canada, in fact it is a category of a national database of stolen property which the public can search. It presently has contains over 185,000 vehicles and 485,000 items in total listed.

It includes almost anything from bicycles to snowmobiles to heavy construction equipment. There is a seperate category for farm equipment, my insurance broker tells me there is more farm equipment stolen than you might think. When he explained it from a 'crook's point of view' I guess it makes sense, the equipment is not likely to be exposed to much public scrutiny like cars or trucks and the buyer is likely to keep it for long time.

This coupled with the lower incomes, etc., in recent years which might make stolen farm equipment more attractive financially even if the buyer new it was stolen.

The high demand for CUT's, and therefore prices, has made them a very attractive target lately, a few of my customers have had losses in the last few years.

I guess we would have just fixed it and sent Kubota a bill, we don't always get everything right but just keep trying. Now, lets back up, has anyone checked to see if it's the cylinders or the valve that's leaking?

We had a contractor demolish a house at our camp and move a construction trailer on to a pad. He used a tracked hi-hoe, and there were tandem axle dump trucks hauling away rubble and bringing in fill for the cellar. Then, a small dozer leveled and compacted it and ran around some on the lawn too. The lawn is really mowed meadow and fairly delicate but a month later you'd never known any equipment had been there. You'd think that tracks would tear up a lawn but they spread the load and don't rut things much. Just a few cleat tracks her and there and those disappeared by spring. An aerator would have made a bigger mess.

The biggest problem with lawn damage from my own tractor hoe work is getting the dumpings off the grass. I've taken to dumping onto vapour barrier so I can just slide everything back into the hole. With the soil and lawn we have once dirt gets into the lawn there's really no way to backfill without tearing up the lawn or leaving a bunch of handwork. Much dirt left on top the lawn will definitely kill it.

That's too bad. Hearing about visions that don't work out doesn't make me happy.

I don't have many ideas beyond the obvious ones. Posting here, e-bay etc. is another version of the classified ad. The problem with web classified is potentially getting the tractor to a distant buyer. Shipping ends up costing somebody and it most times comes off the price. I'd try to sell it privately and locally first. Local classified work but I wouldn't go for go for big pricey or long-term ads. There are equipment buy and sell newspapers in most areas.

Some alternatives to do it yourself alone private sales are auction, consignment and broker. You might find an auction that would accept a reserve bit high enough to hedge the risk or you might find that the dealer who sold the tractor feels bad too and would take the tractor on consignment. I believe there are equipment brokers here and there as well. Auctions, consignment and broker deals do have their own costs and often they end up not producing the best end results.
