Sorry I guess I was I was vague. Me thinks the service dept is trying to get all they can. I do not see anything out of the ordinary when I look at it for her. NY roads are tuff on all components.

You make a good deal up front and service tries to make back the difference.

I've owned a Subaru and was very pleased. Biggest complaint I had was cost of parts. I expect it is the same for all makes now.

Subarus are good cars.

Lots of times you can whine at the town supervisor and they will squirt your section of road with a calcium solution.

You can get bagged calcium and spread it thinly your self.

The new pest plant around here I just read about on the news is called 'dog strangling vine.' There's no explanation for the name in the story but it is more properly called shallow wort and it's a problem in some parts of N.Y. and Eastern Ontario.

Apparently the plan is to control it with a Russian Beetle. I'm not sure whether I hate the pests or the NR release programmes more. I've got a rare copy of a Paul McCartney LP that was recorded and produced in Moscow. Maybe I could just play music to the weeds.

That's good advice. I'm guessing that the tractor has a gear TX as does mine. Most HST's do some braking when the speed pedal is off but diesel engines have little engine braking themselves and my geared tractor does pick up speed going downhill with a load.

It's also good to keep in mind that brakes don't do a lot of good if a tractor starts sliding. There's already insufficient traction to hold the tractor when it's moving and braking would require more traction. However, brakes will get all tires into the act and may keep it sliding straight but most times a tractor will just keep sliding. It's better to be sure of you hills rather than having to gain some sliding experience. I don't have any myself. As mentioned, weight does increase traction.

It shouldn't be necessary to use tape or liquid sealer on new hydraulic fittings. If you do use sealer, only apply it to the upper third of the threads so it doesn't extend into the oil flow. There are torque values for fittings and if you don't have a feel for it, it's good to use a torque wrench. Too tight and they may not seal very well if they are ever removed.

For my own loader, I found that it's handy to have a drift punch for lining up pins and loops. The pin ends on my loader are almost square. I found that CAT I 3ph link pins worked OK as drifts--the upper link pins if I recall. Put one in from one side of a loop and it lines things up well enough to get loader pins in from the other side. You may not have this problem with a new assembly. I had to remove pins to replace some grease zircs. The bucket shifted enough on blocks to throw off the alignment.

Quite an aggravation until I discovered the 3ph pins. My own drifts weren't quite big enough, so a drift extended all the way through the loop before if it hit the taper to align things. Then, I couldn't insert the loader pin from the other side. Suppose I could have driven wedges under the blocks to hold the bucket in an aligned position.

It was a compromise for me Art. Once I saw what a four wheeler could do I gave up a bit of passenger room but there is still room enough for the wife to sit in back of me if she wants to tag along. With the rack system there is enough carrying capacity to load it with tools and I have a small yard trailer I can tow for bigger jobs. Besides, everything is new so hopefully there will be no repair bills or modifications necessary for a long time.

I saw a bigger one being unloaded the other day. It was hooked to a 5 bottom plough. As I traveled back and forth on that road the hood was in the raised position still ploughing, I assume overheating? Any way sales guy back and other tractor hooked on plough for an hour or so then red tractor back on it.

The look like anything else today and nothing like the original ones of yesteryear...

Billy You can do it with out a tension guide. That said: Tension is important but not as important as how you mow.

Have you ever mowed with the belt shields removed? If not remove them and mow. Watch what happens to the belt when you are mowing slow and not working the mower. Change ground speed faster and start working the belt and then you will see how the damage to the belt gets done the belt really has to pull hard and you'll see that at the turn in the belt after the drive pulley.

I've told this before: My belt on my 72" landpride lasted 6 years with my little 20hp ford. It lasted 15 minutes in heavy wet grass with new 35hp JD. I am on my second year of mowing with this belt.

I still squeal the belt now and then. So I have had a couple of cheap belts I have tried if I'm gonna abuse it mowing heavy stuff.

A B158 (genaric #) works on my LandPride 72" side discharge. I think they are $19.00. You will not get the life out of these that you get from the LP belt.

I have had our rock crusher belt suppliers get me a really tuff belt, one of the best in the crusher industry, it did not last one mowing. It is not designed for the reverse turns.

I think to cover the chassis sizes which is what Kubota did just by making the largest horsepower in that size chassis. I would think yes as there might be a 4910 next year at 53 horsepower. It wouldnot be a 5000 size tractor chassis.

I used to work for a company that makes block heaters. Most of them ar 600 watts & like Art said, you don't want the element to touch the block because it reduces the heat transfer to the coolant and can cause leaks because of the heater not being seated correctly. The best way to get a core plug out is to go to one "side" of the circle and pound it in so the plug spins like a globe. they you ca grab it with a pair of pliers or channellocks and pull it right out

I'm the guy who provided the board with the two prices from upstate NY. $18,500, $18,050 and I just got another price from Empire Tractor in Waterloo for $17,900. These prices ARE ALL WITHOUT SS OK? SS costs about $900.00. So your price in Colorado is good.

New Holland is coming out with a new TC33DA, with a stronger front axle to work with a 14LA FEL. I'm waiting for this model in Spring/Summer 2004.

I have the same tractor,loader, backhoe set up that you have.
DK 35 tractor-no problems so far, (190 hours),love the tractor, strong and comfortable. I do wish I would have gotten the creeper gear option.
KL 1450 loader (positive features)- I like the way it is attached to the tractor, and the framing seems strong, crontrols are comfortable, lift seems good.
KL 1450 (negative features)- some original grease fittings fell out, bucket curl power and roll back angle are wimpy.
Rhino 85 backhoe (positive features)- power seems OK, quickness and controls good,subframing seems strong and easy to remove and install.
Rhino 85 (negative features)- backhoe and subframe take up a lot of storage space when removed, subframe does stick back and drag, grease fitting on the lowest bucket pivot gets knocked off by rocks.
Overall I'm very pleased with the tractor, the loader could use some improvements.

I got to brush hog last weekend with 2 other tractors. I have a TC29 with gear transmission, my friend a TC40 with gears, and the other friend an old MF 135. All of us were using 5' brush hogs. I was surprised to find that my TC29 would just about keep up with the TC40. In the fields that had been mowed once this year, I could mow in 2x3 or even 3x1 in most places. Some of the tougher grass had us both going down to 2x1. The only place that he had a noticeable advantage was up some of the steep hills. We were backing up them, and some of them I had to use low range on; he never had to resort to low range.
The MF 135 was significantly more powerful than either one of our NH tractors.
