Well after driveing all day I took the plunge. First I went to Toledo to look at 98 EZGOS for $2000 that were not worth $20. JUNK. Then I drove to Lansing or actually Eaton Rapids. Found the best dealer I've looked at with many nice clean cars. They had '98 EZGO's for $2150 but they were in excellent shape. Green/tan, newer tires new battery, serviced, new filters and a 90 day warranty. I bought one that had been lifted with the Factory 8" lift kit, New front axles, new shocks, tie rods, 4 leaf rear springs etc with the monster mudder type tires and steel wheels. Also got a P/U style bed. $3250 plus tax. By far the best deal I've seen. They had many to drive and a nice place to try them out. I've gotta haul the tractor north tomorrow as my long awaited deer blind is supposed to be here from Texas on Sunday. My wood splitter is scheduled to arrive this week so hopefully next weekend I will get to haul the EZGO and the splitter north. It seems I've been capitulateing all summer and everythings here at once ! Includeing all the work I'm behind on. I'm sure I'll be splitting wood while the boss is out trail rideing on her new toy. Gentlemen: Im a new poster to this forum. Go have a look at Tiger PTO generators from Dynagen.com. We were in the power failure in August here in southern MI and it saved us. I have a L3130 that ran my 12KW gen just fine. Hope this helps!

The 3ph mounted grapple for moving brush piles would be GREAT! Moving piles with a back blade or box blade is a big improvement over hauling in the trailer, but can be messy. CadPlans has a version of the 3ph grapple but even the plans are expensive.
Another one that is made somewhere out there, but is expensive...a PTO driven concrete mixer. The ones I've seen are bolted on the tractor frame; the 3ph controls dump the mixing drum. I guess it could be driven from a hydraulic motor instead of PTO.
Anybody get Farm Show magazine? It has these kind of implements in a newspaper-type magazine. I'd be surprised if Murf doesn't have some inventions published there...

In the pacific NW scotch broom is becoming quite a pest. It's not native and is a fast growing, woody weed plant that chokes out young evergreens. They can grow pretty high - the ones I cut down were about 5-6 feet high and a few feet in diameter and were only a couple of years old. When their seed pods pop (you can hear 'em pop) they spread thousands of seeds maybe 10 feet in all directions. They're a fairly soft wood with strong fibers. It's no trouble cutting one or two at a time, but when there's a dense field of 'em ya gotta go slow and easy.

The other factor with widening the front wheels is that the front axle PIVOTS.

It doesn't matter how far apart the front wheels get, the front axle will not add much in the way of sideways stability if the machine is still free to pivot on the axis of the front axle pivot joint.

well now I feel like I'm loosing my mind, cause I used it last night for a while, and just had it running for a half hour, and the lines vibrated a little, but not enough to cause any buzzing or humming, granted today the fluid did not get as hot as last night and the other day, it very well could be the relief valve setting or spring. The logistics of bringing it to the dealer is tough for me, and one dealer close by will come look at it, but they said they would have to charge me for the home trip. So I will have to make a decision here on what to do. My guess is right now that the fluid is not getting hot enough to cause the vibration, its been cool outside the last day or so. The dealer I bought it from is 2.5 hours away. I will call them, and see if they will send someone down to check it.

Thanks for the insight Art. If you had to guess, would you say the relief valve is bad on it?

Those are the only two fillers on the hydraulic system, per manual. I would check that the brakes are not dragging/locking on. Place it in neutal and give it a push on pavement.<br>
The other logical thing is that the overload limit is sticking open. If you over pressure the system in drive (not recommended) the valve will open and release the pressure. You have to stop the tractor and allow it to reset. The peddles will feel spongy if you operate without resetting. I suspect this valve is sticking. Where it is located? I don't have a repair manual.<br>

Art is right! Veneer grade cherry is out of this world price wise. Its not uncommon for a clean limbless log to go from common to veneer and quad drouple the price.

If you are that unsure of what you have you probably should get a professional to apraise it.

If you are going to use it. Use lots of stickers to minimize warping as it dries.

If you live and work in the real north then like the diesel and engine oil, you run a summer/winter blend. At -20 C hydaulic oil is about right. Remember that don't cut until the leaves are off the trees up north. We would cut all winter for next year.

Thanks for the info...Thats probably the way I'll go. I live in Michigan and it usually never gets below -10 to -20 at the coldest nights. I used to use power service in my truck and it worked pretty well so I don't know why it wouldn't work in my tractor. --Thanks

One of the golf courses we do work for has built a rather unique system for their equipment building.

It is basically a very basic home-made geothermal heat pump. They pump water off the bottom of a deep pond and through a series of car radiators enclosed in a sheet metal box. A conventional squirrel cage type blower recirulates air through the whole apparatus. While the building is fairly well insulated & draft-proof it otherwise unheated except for a little solar gain. This system keeps the shed at a minimum of 40 deg.'s F. regardless of how cold it gets outside. This might not be warm enough for working, but it keeps everything above the freezing point.

The system was originally installed (as was mine) to act as an air-conditioner & de-humidifier, the winter use was an after thought.

It's curious that some old farm tractors had factory systems for putting ether into the engine and now you don't use it under any circumstances. These diesels have come a long way.

Comparing the old tractors to the new I often call many of the newer design hot rod tractors. Take an old A or Cub with good tires and they would stand right up on the back tires to pull a large load up a hill. They would slowly raise the front end and transfer the weight to the rear wheels and you could still maintain control with the front in the air about a foot,steer with the inferior brake system until it would go no more. The many of the newer tractors if they had the traction of the Cub would probably blow the drive train apart if they were to do it in two wheel drive.

Started to do some detective work for you. After I posted my reply to you, of the "no" variety, I had the screen that tells me that I posted successfully. On that screen , there is a check to view posting executable. Only after I clicked on it, did the/does the email notification get generated. Coincidence or food for thought?
