Of course, the distance the weight is centered from the link pins or bucket pivots affects the weight that can be lifted as well as the tractor balance. 2' is a common spec definition for a 3ph and at the bucket pivots is common for loaders. <br>

Most 3ph's and loaders are capable of lifting more than their specs, so like AC said it's likely a feasible idea provided adequate counter weighting is used but the lift speed may be pretty slow. The weight of even a 4' diameter bale would be centered beyond the spec definitions so use would be the other side of the official safety parameters, but maybe these are the 600 lbs. version of round bales. I remember some as small as 60 lbs. from the old round balers. Between the load and the counter-weight needed for large bales, it'd be good to avoid speed on rough roads.<br>

I stuck with the Rotella synthetic as well. I just cant see buying another oil when I already have that in the garage. Its interesting that they dont pay for the donut. I have always been under the impression that they could void warrantys for useing a product that does not have the donut with the correct rateings. Go figure. Dave

I also was thinking 3ph hoe, where small for the tractor is very good. For an upgrade idea with a sub-frame hoe, you'd want to make sure a sub-frame for the hoe is available for any tractor that might be purchased in the future. The hoe might end up limiting upgrade choices.

A few years ago somebody said they melted some plastic head-light assembly parts by switching to halogen replacement bulbs. I'd take some care doing that idea. My loader and frame are in the way and the headlights are about useless. I went with front and rear 55W work lights on the ROSP. Work lights are usually available in three beam widths. Trapezoidal patterns are best for general driving. Some fog lights put out narrow fan shaped patterns but it's the lenses rather than the bulbs that produce the pattern. They have to mounted very low or only a narrow band of road is illuminated. They also waste a bunch of light to the sides at the expense of illumination where you are driving.<br>

For bulb swaps, the existing wiring should be adequate if higher wattage bulbs don't blow existing fuses. Using slightly larger fuses likely would work but would take some expected life out of the wiring.<br>

I used 4 wd with the exception of some tight backing when I would have been ripping up the turf.

I would lke to add a ball but I always have the clevis on so I need to rig something up.

UH-OH. I have it right in front of me.

It says: "Not recommended for any attachment that weighs more than 450 pounds and is positioned more than 12 inches behind the mounting points."

I think that would exclude my Gearmore 48 in box scraper. But it would allow some of the lighter duty 300+ pounders. The big question is can you rent one of those?

In the past I have tweaked the lips of two buckets by putting hooks on the top, even with some steel reinforcement inside.

The goal this time was to minimize or prevent bending the bucket when using the hook and to provide a way to tow/spot trailers without having to remove the backhoe.

The results are shown in pics #2, 3 and 4. The receiver is backed by a slab of 1/2 inch thick steel and is mounted on what I hope will be a stronger section of the bucket.

The hook can be mounted in either direction for lifting or pulling. The drop shank hitch is about the same distance off the ground as the hitch on my pick-up truck when the FEL cutting edge is 2-3 inches off the deck.

I should also explain that Willies idea works better on Kubota's where the upper lip of the bucket turns up, as long as you have enough room to insert the shank into the receiver without hitting the back of the bucket.

The bucket lip on the JD's turns down, requiring a different approach.

The Mill Creek products do look like quality items, glad to hear you're happy with yours.

I have to figure out a permanent plan for ours. I don't know if I am going to spread or just make a pile in the woods and let it break down. I made a pile 2 years ago and now it's gone almost totally. I have plenty of room and we only keep 3 horses in stalls now so I can just let it break down in piles in the woods. The sreading would be nice to put some fertilizer onto the fields though. We'll see.

Please update us on your mower deck leak. I was leaning toward a Kubota BX today until the dealer (~10 minutes away) would not agree to a home demo of the machine. M-F GC2300 is a nice alternative & if my experience is typical, Kubota needs competition to wake up and relearn what service is. I definitely won't be buying orange at the dealer in Harvard. BTW, the M-F dealer is 50 mi away and the demo machine will be here this weekend. Yeah!

If you buy a used tractor for a good price you should only loose inflation. I have done it twice in the last 7 years. Just make sure you are buying at the right price.

Murf, As the executive chef for numerous large private CC I have always had a cart at my disposal. This is often necessary to kick some bodys butt ata half way house or take a cook to a BBQ function, run fod etc etc. I cant tell you how many times I have had to push some damned electric cart up the last friggen hill to the kitchen at 10 pm after a 18 hour day. Most clubs also keep a few mule types that are gas. I learned about 15 years ago to feed the cart guys and the maintenance guys what they want, when they want. I have been out of that game and on my own a long time now but I still remember how much I dont like electric carts. I did see a 48v Yamaha, '99 with new batteries in 02 for 1600 plus about 250 shipping. Dave

I can think of several reasons for selecting a lighter tractor. Heavier tractors are more difficult to tow, they have less flotation on wet or muddy ground, and they do more turf damage if you mow. It all depends on what your needs are.

In the last five minutes two emails arrived in my inbox that are SPAM scams.<br>

One email was from "MS Customer Support" and had an attachment that purported to be the latest security update. The email looked very legitimate, and explained that you should click on the attachment to install. DO NOT DO THIS! The email is a FRAUD, and if you look at the email headers they are obviously NOT from Microsoft.<br>

The second was from "Storage System" and had a subject line of "Error Announcement". The message text explains that an email you sent is undeliverable, and the email is attached to the message. The attachment is NOT an email message you sent, it is an executable file that probably will install a virus or do some other damage to your system. Do NOT click on that one either.<br>
<br>
Be careful out there! Be suspicious of ANY email you receive from ANY source - these spammers and hackers are masquerading as very legitimate organizations and if you click on one of their attachments it will likely do some damage.

Reg, the sand mix is used on a golf course for several reasons none of those pertain to home lawns so we will skip the long and boring explaination for now. If you are just scalping a high spot you are only removing the turf and leaving the soil behind. Just scratch the spot up with a scratch rake and throw some seed on it. If you are digging into a low spot just fill with soil as close to what the lawn is already growining in or get some bagged soil from the home center and seed it. There is no need to get tricky or expensive.

Be Careful....A few months ago I saw a 2003, 4700 w/ loader on E-Bay. It had a "buy it now" of $8500. This machine had pics and looked perfect. while I was trying to deceide if this was too good to be true, someone bought it. We corresponed and he found out it was a hoax.
