Okay, I gave it a try last nite. Used a 50ft garden hose, a couple of hose fittings and a couple of pieces of 3/4" clear tubing. The 40ft wall was perfect (plus-or-minus 1/16"). However, the 80ft wall was off about 1-1/16" over 50'. Darn, I thought I was closer than that. Oh well, since I only have the first row of blocks set, I think I'll pull 'em back up, and adjust. Thanks for the advice, all. This worked out well.

Mark, I have had this boom for about two weeks and have raised and lowered it at least 30 or 40 tmes it works great. I have it set up to work on my quick hitch. I have lifted my ballast box with no problem (950lbs). I think it is the best $75.00 I have spent since buying the tractor.

Wow, That's sounds like a real good deal, can you point me in the same direction. I would do exactly what you did, for that price on a 4115. Just curious, that wouldn't be the 2002 4115 that is shown on machinefinder.com in NC with only 1 or 2 hours on it? I forget the name of the dealer that it was listed under. Where you got yours,do they have another 4115? Just curoius.....thanks

My guess would be that the green light illuminating give indication of adequate alternator/generator out put and charging system function.

You ended up with one of those rare finds Art. Just wanted to be sure that there weren't more for that price before I laid out my cash for an older one. I am still a bit reluctant, the newer electric with new batteries for $1900 may be the way to go, just am not sure. Is there a way to alter the micro switch so they idle and shut off with a key switch? I'll bet that would be easier on the starter and engine both, just a thought.

This year those little lop eared suckers ate my tomato plants. When I finally got some chicken wire around them I found deer standing in the raised planter. Can't win.

Maybe next year I can get a greenhouse built.

When you said Berrymanns I thought of Berrymans B-12 carb. & fuel injector cleaner. What you used was fine. May just be a case of old age and she finally gave up the ghost. What kind of oil did you put in the engine when you changed the oil? How much oil came out vs. how much oil did you put back in? Reason I ask is that some of the older engines used a thermal convection cooling system vs a pump type and they were prone to heavy sludge build up in the engine. I had an old Cub 154 Lo Boy that would do this. Sometimes heavy sludge accumulation can build up to the point that it blocks off the drainage of oil from some parts of the engine. The owner has the oil pan plug removed and nothing more comes out and they naturally assume all the oil is drained. When they refill the crankcase with oil, they put in the called for amount and now the engine is over filled with oil. If this is the case, the crankshaft would sling it around causing a mess and sometimes the condition you describe. Did you go back and check the engine oil level again? (bear in mind this scenario is pretty unlikely) The owner's manual for my 154 Loboy called for periodically adding kerosene to the engine and flushing the sludge out belive it or not. More likely in an engine this old would be a rusted through head gasket or crapped out rings. What is unusual is that with a blown head gasket there would be other symptoms such as coolant in the oil, oil leakage around the head gasket, a cylinder miss, hard starting and also the condition you describe. If the rings were shot, the engine would be tough to start in most cases and really hard starting in cold weather. Have you been using ether to assist starting this engine? That can contribute to these problems. In any case; hope you figure it out and get off on the cheap. Good Luck!

I here the BX22 is being replaced with the BX23 and I know the 1800 and 2200 are being replaced with the BX1830 and 2230. Any one know what's changing on the BX22?

I think that's an older model Yanmar and I can't find Tractortips specs for it. From the weight it sounds like it might be small for the intended uses. Finding CAT I implements that are small enough for it in might be difficult. The tractor may not have a CAT I 3ph and CAT 0 implements would be smaller but not as available as CAT I. I would research the parts and maintenance support and direction of pto rotation for it.

A decent ray of hope it seems. It also sounds like TC and 1710 TX's are different. On mine the only parts outside the cases are the shift lever, shaft end, guide, a gasket and o-ring. The sifter mounts to the sheaf with a roll pin. A cotter key does sound flimsy. There'd be some potential on mine for a buggered o-ring or guide to cause such a problem.

If it comes to removing covers for some reason, my repair manual warns that some parts on the TX cover may drop off the cover and into the TX unless care is taken. That is likely true for many TX's since safety switches are often mounted on the top-covers.

I always like the smooth looks when everything is covered with sheet metal but yet when times are like this I dislike it as you have to remove it to get to the problem. I'd just try to isolate it to see where it is coming from to get started as it probably or might be just a valve leaking and a 15cent o-ring.

Comparing performances would depend on the work done. The 2000 is a 2wd tractor with around 35hp/3,500 lbs. tractor. Compacts in the HP range are much lighter but gain back the traction they loose from less weight with 4wd. Most would provide better hydraulics, PS and HST (or more gears than a 2000). I don't put a lot of stock in the differences between diesel and gas engine performance except for fuel economy. I'm guessing the 2000 has high hours and is facing major work, so the comparison is between a new gray and major maintenance expense on the 2000.

A compact would be better for finish mowing, maneuvering, rough ground, loader work and controlling ground speed during pto operation (a 3ph snow blower on a tractor with only 1-reverse gear wouldn't be great and basic 2000's only had one reverse). A 2000 may be better for general ground engaging work and as Sparks said parts and support. However, I haven't found NH parts for my Ford 1710 cheap. Some parts are starting to be hard to get too, but I think after-market parts are far more available for the 2000. As to which grays to look at, I'd read the forums here as a stating place. Specific questions about particular grays will likely find somebody with experience here.

I have a JD4510 with 12/12 power reverser. My decision to buy this combination was economics. I wanted the biggest JD with implements that I could afford. With that said, I would prefer an ehydro if money was not a consideration. I find that after 230 hrs, that I still need to think about using the PowRev. At times, I find myself using both the clutch and the PowRev at the same time. No need for that!! I also do not like to use the PowRev when using the rotary cutter at PTO engine speeds in B range. Maybe it is all mental, but it seems like abuse to be "power shifting" at 2600 RPM. I will lower the RPM some before shifting directions. A hydro transmission would be much easier on the drive train in this application. I think it works great in all applications that don't require a constant high RPM and constant direction changes.

Just my two cents. The big question is what did the tractor die of? Was it mechanical engine failure, or possibly a fuel or electrical problem. Chances are slim bad or wrong oil will cause a tractor to die from a fuel or electrical problem. Assuming it was engine failure (judging by repair price of $800) I think it's odd that a 5 year old riding mower which has been routinely and professionaly cared for all of a sudden "dies" after an oil change. The "black" oil must have been severely contaminated with something, or maybe it was too thick or thin to provide lubrication. Either way, it was certainly an extreme condition to have been the root cause of engine failure within such a short time. Regarding repair costs. I'd be wary of the $800 quote. Does that include a new engine? You can buy a nice electric start Briggs replacemnent engine, Intek 10 hp for example, for about $700. Also, depending on the Model tractor, $800 might be 80% the cost of a brand new rider, especially now with all the sales. I say get the oil analysis done, If it sends up a red flag go after the service people real hard, but don't spend $800 for repairs. Either find a much lower repair quote, or put the money towards a new rider. Some of those Sears riders are almost fully depreciated after 5 years.

Chief not all oils base stocks are equal as all refineries are not equal. So JD is stating that different blenders are used in different areas of the country. Does not give me the warm and fuzzies about using JD oil.
