While the specifications of the aftermarket hoe may be true, that does not necessarily mean that the hoe is a good match for the tractor. The extra power and reach will put more force throughout the frame of your tractor. If you are an expert user, then you might be able to tell when you are overloading the combined system, but most people cannot. I think that the big three are going to keep the overall system in mind and their specs will show that.

I like having a backhoe because I hate digging by hand in the tough desert soils around here. But, if I have a project that requires something deeper than my hoe will do, then I contract it out or I rent a bigger hoe for a day or two. I am putting in a base for a large antenna tower right now, and I am going to contract out the foundation work. It is 4 ft square and 8 ft deep. You cannot dig a hole like that easily with a backhoe that will typically fit on a CUT because it is too deep compared to the opening size.

I will use my backhoe to dig all the trenches for the lightning protection grounds and coaxial cable. It is much more suited to that task.

I dont think any of your choices are inferior. The Kubota choice seems a bit off as there base Kubota models with standard configurations that will potentially give you a more apples to apples comparison. The Kioti at least as far as price will be very tough to beat. I hear a bit of scuttle about them here and their but its never from any one who actually ownes one. The 4310 is likely getting out of the price range you are are shopping. I have a small JD now and plan to trade up. I doubt I will buy Deere again.I just find the dealer mentality a little mutch but then their machines fit me the best. The Kioti is getting very popular and I would have no qualms about buying a Kioti and the CK20 is a very nice machine as well. Like others have said the real story is told when you test drive them. Kioti has recently had 0% financeing as well as the others. Dave

Perhaps it is a regional thing. In my area I had to look high and low for a MF dealer and the 2 dealers I found were very small operations that did not have much in the way of support service or stock. I agree with you about having to buy it through a dealer no matter the color in most cases.

I looked at the X595 quite a bit. Its a nice machine but the 2210 With FEL is about $11,750 before tax. A lot more machine for the money unless 90 plus percent of what you are going to use it for is mowing. I believe the price you listed is consistant with what I was seeing. If I remember right the 3pth and rear PTO option was 1k. Dave

One feature I'd really like to see on TractorPoint is the ability to have a sticky default setting on a per-user basis for message notification. I prefer to not receive message notifications via email, but I often forget to select that option when posting. It would be great if I could make the selection once in my profile and have it apply anytime I post, reply to a post, or edit a post I've already made.

I have a MF 254 w/loader and many impliments that I've had for about a year and absolutely love---my question is does anyone know anything about this machine? I found an owners manual on-line but is such a bad copy it's worthless---can't seem to find a service manual or any information about this machine. I e-mailed the serial # to the local dealer(not very local to me) and he said it was the last year of production for that model but didn't know anything else about it(he didn't appear willing to help either).<br>

I have an 82 that I bought this Spring. One day last week it started spewing oil out the bottom from an overflow tube. I've been told that's generally a problem with rings. I hoping for a crankcase ventilation. Any ideas or suggestions. THANKS

I had no choice the 2 plys went flat (as I predicted) on me
3 times already. I knew 4ply's were the step I was taking.

FYI regarding the actual tire size on Cubs 23 x 9.5 is that its only 20.5 " approx. The Carlisles Turf master is 23.5" approx. I'm curious as to the actual diameter 2 or 4 ply tire for the 3235 (which is listed 24x10.5) and what it actually is.
I bet its nowhere close to a 24" tire, hence the extra room in the wheel well. And i would speculate carlisles Turf master 24 x 10.5 is even bigger than 24" diam.

My Issue with Cub would be, eventually tires wear out. And Cubs version of tires may not be available. If someone stick's to the specified tire size, they should be ok right?? well as I found out- NO !!

Chief, just reading posts here I realized I didn't answer your question at all! I think you will be all right as your tractor has a far bigger output than a 770. They have to have a good size alternator on your tractor as with the E-controls you would have major problems with the drive system without.

Harvey: I'm sure you know the safety stuff well. Maybe others don't. A safety note in my hoe manual says 'when working on side hills, always dump to the uphill side.' It took awhile for the sense of this to sink in and then I thought 'Oh yeah, Duh.' I shouldn't have even had to think about it.

I interpreted the description as meaning bearings that support the shaft inside the column. Usually there's one at the top of the shaft and another below the ball nut. I think everybody is saying that a repair manual or tech advice from NH is needed. There may be specific procedures such as bearing and shaft pre-loads to set or shims to set clearances. A parts manual would indicate if there are any parts missing or misassembled.

In general, it sounds like either bearings that are too tight or something bent or out of alignment. If it's bearings inside the column, I'd check the alignment of the column and that it is properly seated in the sector cover or how ever it mounts. I'd also check the torque of all mounts and the steering wheel nut. I think it'd be pretty easy to get the bearings too tight if repair procedures aren't known. There's an outside chance that something like steering locks that are set to allow excessive turning could place abnormal loads on the steering.

That is a very nice job, you can also do mine anytime, preferably before the snow flies. My neighbor was going to get a 2210 along with me but wanted a cab, the additional cost of the cab pushed the total cost over what he wanted to pay so he kept his old 420.

Sounds like a feature I haven't heard of. Interesting idea and probably intended to solve the gear TX problem of freewheeling when shifting on hills.

From his previous posts, I'd guess that Dave knows how they should work. It's probably not good if they do hard braking each time the tractor is clutched. I've seen the type of adjustment device described. If I wanted to adjust it, I'd operate the clutch to see which way the lever moves for braking and then adjust as desired.
