I flip side to side so I still have the tire rotation set for fowards. traction is good fowards or reverse for FEL work as long as I use some momentum to 'hit" the pile and time my lift.

Colichi is like concrete. When I landscaped my house in Arizona I hated life working in 110 degrees with a pick and a shovel breaking that stuff up. Yech.

I'm not sure what your dealer is complaining about with the eHydro. The stopping rate with the eHydro is adjustable from the drivers seat with the Speedmatch feature. Maybe your dealer hasn't bothered to learn how it works. I've got mine set to stop pretty darn quick.

DEFINETELY 4X4 and diesel. 2 wheel drives and gas engines are things of the past. Why do you think the dealer's lot is always full of 2 wheel drive tractors? Because NOBODY wants them. 2 wheel drive tractors are like the no air conditioning and manual transmissions on cars and trucks. Nobody want them either.

I'd fire up a cutting torch and cut them off and re-paint the spot. Worthless things don't belong on tractors and steps that you can't use and are that close to the tires are worthless.

Question you need to ask yourself is how much are you really saving by using a filter that may possibly not meet Kubota specs? You may save what........ $10 on a filter you may change once in 5 years? Here is an example of what I am speaking of. If you use a Fram or Wix filter on my Cummins engine and there is an oil related failure, you are up the creek without a paddle. Use the correct and specified filters .

I remember the excitement with my new used Ford too. Good feeling to hang on to. I can't help much with specifics. I'll wait to see how if there are responses that give specifics before turning to some 'in general' sorts of things.

Well, maybe a few 'in general' comments. If it starts easily and doesn't make a lot of smoke there's likely not much to worry about in the engine (diesels do make some gray or white smoke till they warm up). Coolant rations are inevitably 50% and diesels take diesel rated (low silicon) coolant. It's good to get confirmation but most all reasonably compacts take about the same engine and hydraulic oil. It's pretty universal stuff. I use a diesel rated fuel conditioner with injector pump lubricant. My Ford pump was engineered before low-sulfur diesel and it probably can use some help with lubrication. Many fuel conditioners also have anti-gel ingredients that may be important during the winter.

I'd probably change the engine and hydraulic oil, filters and coolant on general principal unless there's very good maintenance documentation from the previous owner. Having a manual is good because there usually are about three drains on the rear and three on the front axle if it's 4wd. Most any high-pressure grease works, and I'd grease it. It's easy to miss the center axle pivot point on 4wd tractors. Some injector pumps require a bit of engine added in a port on top of the pump as part of an oil change. It'd be good to know if that's needed. However, most times it won't do serious damage if it's neglected.

I would check the tightness of wheel lugs, loader frames etc. Specific adjustments probably should wait on getting a manual or comments from somebody who knows the tractor.

Yeah, water should work fine. Be sure to remove the screen before cleaning. That'll let the water get to the radiator better.

That sounds like the PS on my Ford 1710. The hydraulics are built into the steering sector and are fed from a priority valve from a single hydraulic pump. It's better to call theses designs 'power assisted' steering since they're a bit lacking in power.

My system does have a pressure relief valve that is adjustable and the steering would be weak if the relief valve setting is low. Unfortunately I have I'd have to get an outrageously expensive special fitting to adjust it myself. The wear steering isn't enough of an aggravation for me to get serious and a relief valve test is waiting till the tractor's next trip to the dealer. My tractor has a steering damper and taking it off may help the steering.

If the DK has turf tires that will make the steering worse. Higher tire pressures will make the steering easier but also may make 4wd hard to disengage. Higher pressures when doing heavy loader work will help. Sometimes if I'm stopped with the wheels cramped I lift the front with the loader to straighten the wheels. Occasionally when doing heavy loader work that requires tight turns when loaded I help it with some brake steering. There are ways to get along with gimpy PS.

I took the rear tire off my BX22 to do 50 hour transmission service. The strainer is kinda long and I don't think it would come out straight unless the tire comes off. Sure seemed like the easy way to do it anyway.

Dave, have you tried talking with Gaithersburg New Holland. I hate to even mention their name as I never had a good experience with them when in the military contracting tractor purchases. They sell alot of tractors through GSA sales and may give you a better price with their volume. Not the most customer friendly bunch though. I take it that when you are talking about the dealer in NC you are referring to Corriher???? If not, take a looksee in the upper right hand corner of this screen........ ;-) If you are interested in a MMM that is easily installed and removed; take a look at a John Deere 4410 or 4310 with the 72" mmm. I can get mine off in less than 5 minutes and more like 3. Little longer to reinstall, and those 7 Iron decks are really nice; extremely tough. Good luck with your search.

You are on track. These are not your grandpa's tractors.

I can remember JD and Case tractors from the 50's and pretty much all they did was pull things. Power take-offs consisted of big wheels on the side of the engine that ran huge belts.

When we cleaned the barn twice a day we did it with a shovel. A Small Utility Tractor would have been a dream.

The 770 was manufactured from 1990 to 1998. The hours may not be indicative of actual run time as a mechanical tach and hour meter register hour for hour at full PTO operation RPM. Even still, if those are genuine hours on the meter that is not much time at all for this tractor. Maybe it was just sitting in storage. I would find out why such low hours and also run and operate the tractor for a couple of hours with an impliment such as a rear mower or rotary cutter to place a load on the engine and power train. Check for leaks, abnormal temps. check condition of oil (no funky colors mixed in) (if it is new oil, I would be suspicious), how does tractor start when cold? If the tractor is warmed up when you get there, walk away. Listen for unusual noises and squeaks such as from the clutch housing area. What does the hyd. oil look like? Assuming say an average of 25 hours a year (worst case), and perhaps a 1994 - 1995 model. In fair condition the tractor is worth around $6,500 give or take a few hundred. If in pristene condition, maybe more. The rotary cutter is a light duty model and worth maybe $300 - $500 depending on condition. So if this tractor is in fantastic condition, the owner is not too far off on asking price. Here are the specs. for this tractor:

20 hp. is pushing the limits for a 5 ft. rotary cutter for this tractor and I would not plan on cutting heavy brush with it, but light stuff and grass it should do OK. But the cutter is larger than what JD specs., I believe. Sounds like it may be a nice tractor. Just let the buyer beware. Good luck!

In some cases problems similar to this can be caused by a faulty sensor the feed the controller. In this case, I would expect the controller. The dealer will check it all out at the 50 hr. service.

From what I have seen/heard the MF is a little tough to come buy. I prefer one of the two others as there will likely be more tire choices and after market options for any model that sells more units. The only thing I did not like about the Kubota was no tach. Loader specs are small potatoes. In spite of the very small spec differences it would be tuff to make a poor choice between theese. Dave
