You're more than welcome. You still may want to take a look at some of the new tractors. There are alot of really good incentives with most of the tractor manufactures that get the payments down to a very reasonable amount. I would say that in your case a John Deere 4310, 4410, or 45/4610 would be suited to your tasks with the 4310 being the best buy. If you are not concerned about hydrostatic drive a John Deere 790 or 990 would be ideal. These are both great and reliable tractors for the money. I personally like the 990 for the hp range you specify. Kubota also makes a very good tractor that holds up well. I would just caution you to let the buyer beware if you buy a used tractor. There are alot of good deals out there and not so good deals as you have seen. Look around like you did seeing the ether in the barn. Ask questions about servicing. If the tractor is warmed up when you arrive; walk away. ALWAYS test demo the tractor stone cold. Pay close attention to clutch performance and hydraulics. I don't have any experience with the Kioti tractors but have heard many owners praise them highly. I have had very bad experience with New Holland but that was with a TW-20 ag tractor. If you compare the John Deere 790 and 990 with the rest of the field, I think you may find that they are VERY competitively priced. I am sure some of the other guys on the board will jump in here with some suggestions on other color tractors that have experience with them. Good luck with your search.

I have spent hours reading messgaes on this website. It looks to me like people generally say that the b7300 is underpowered. Mowing hills is tough apparently as is heavy landscaping. I don't know if I will be doing much landscaping, but my meadow is on a hill. Some like the b7300 anyway, and some don't, but almost all say it is underpowered. My problem is that the price is right. From everything I have read, it looks like I would be happier with a b7500 (5 more hp and powersteering), but the price is probably 5 k more.
The used B7300 has 128 hours, a mmm and front blade for 8500.
I found a b7500 with 33 hours and a loader for 12,400.
(I'd probably need to buy a bush hog for it too and I want to remove snow, so a blade or a blower).
I really didn't want to go above 10k, but I also don't want to get something that won't work for me.
Any words of wisdom???

And don't forget the busted knuckles and contortionist acts, but I don't think I'd call them 'good.' Oh that exhaust work.

I can't say what a help a parts manual is. The exploded parts diagrams give the location and proper assembly of every bolt, nut and washer on a tractor. I wonder how many times I've finished a job and 'OOPS there's something still in the parts pail. Yikes, now where'd that come from!' At least with a parts manual you can figure it out.

There is a company called CADPLAN I think that sells do it yourself plans for various implements. I think Bill who posts here sometimes build one of their backhoes. I doubt that any of their plans are specific to the excavator but it may be interesting to see what they have. The company name and contact probably can be found in the archives.

You might say if the new oil is the same viscosity and if you happened to be doing heavy work on an exceptionally hot day.

I suppose it's obvious but the main question to answer is whether the oil pressure actually is low. Of less importance is whether the sending unit and gauge are properly working. I'd be inclined to hook a gauge into the system and see what the pressure actually is. If the engine is a 3-cylinder one, it maybe similar to one of three engines used in Ford 1310 - 1710's and I could look up the oil pressure specs for them. No guarantee it be right for a Shibaura though.

Less obvious is that the problem might be the filter itself. If you haven't used a NAPA one before, I'd be tempted to put the old one back on temporarily if it's still around and reasonably clean unless you're certain the x-refed filter works OK. The filter elements of some x-refed filters aren't equivalent to original equipment and they also may have pressure bypassed or anti-drainback features originals lack. It is tempting to think of the filter or oil since those were changed immediately before the problem was noticed. You do have to ensure that you aren't running the engine with insufficient oil pressure though.

Is your Troy-Bilt a 33" wide cut model ?? If so, how do you like it ?? I purchased one a couple of years ago, and am not 100% satisfied with it. Seems like a few too many problems for a new mower that I use only on my lawn and not for any commerical work.

R4's do ride rough and I think that 10 lbs. may be too low a pressure for them unlike turfs and ags. I don't think low tire pressure is the solution, although letting pressure out of the fronts as well may have reduced or eliminated the 4wd engaging problems. Even if tires would stay on the rims at 10 lbs. the tire load ratings would be seriously reduced. The treads also may deform at low pressure, which would reduce traction.

The suspension on my Ford is adjustable. There is a spring tension adjustment nut at the front of the suspension. I don't know if all seats are adjustable. I have seen some fairly inexpensive after-market seats that seem like they'd have pretty soft suspensions. I didn't get one when I bought a new seat because it was quite a bit higher than the original and wouldn't provide great headroom under my canopy. Besides, I'd probably have to fiddle around adapting the seat to the existing suspension mounts. Anyway, an after-market seat and suspension might be less expensive than a bunch of factory parts.

I'll try my hand at an explanation. It is an odd occurrence so my explanation seems to be some odd thinking even for me.

I wonder if the moisture simply came from the vegetation? The idea here is that it was the evening and very humid day. Generally it sounds like the sort of conditions we get around here that produce fog in early evening. The temperature could have dropped below dew point. The vegetation could cool down faster than the ground and condensation could form on it while the warmer ground still could be dusty.

Don't know. Just a possibility. Somehow, I can't quite see the axle housings and wheels staying like a cold bottle of beer on a hot day after maybe an hour or more of operation. However, if there is liquid tire fill that would make a lot of thermal mass and maybe could keep the rear wheels chilled. Ahh liquid tire fill and air condition seems like a more realistic explanation--maybe.

If the tractor has a diverter valve, you could set it to the 'remote' position and then try the 3ph. A diverter would take the loader hydraulics out of the system and eliminate problems such as a bad pressure relief valve in the loader valve. On most setups, oil for the 3ph goes through the loader valve first so a problem there could affect 3ph operation.

The only other simple test that comes to mind is listening for an open pressure relief valve, which could indicate an obstructed high-pressure line. It'd be good if a new filter cured the problem and I imagine there'll be more later if it doesn't.

The only thing I'd keep in mind when thinking about the problem is that it seemed to come on quickly during a period of heavy operation rather than something that got worse over a longer period. Instantaneous suction line obstructions do happen (the filter being part of the suction line) but it's more common for filters to clog more slowly. Guess we'll hear back and then go from there if necessary.

I wouldn't recommend it .Most of the reconditioned tractors are usually the poorest quality tractors with a nice paint job. The YM2200 is an early 1970's tractor with poor parts availability. I'd only recommend buying one if it was in real good original condition.

Not really the same thing. GM is the parent company, I don't expect them to sell cheaper than say a Chevy dealer would. I am talking about entirely different company here. In the case of the backhoes where you can buy from the manufacturer it is esentially factory direct where it is common place to get things cheaper. They have less overhead and no middle man. Computers are a prime example I HAVE bought from the manufacturer at much lower prices for the same machine the big names sell. Only difference is there was an empty space where the emblem would go! A little detective work and you figure out which model it would have been. In electronics this is common, I have bought TVs and VCRs under the same cicumstances.

If you want to consider the backhoe to be a part,rather than a complete item than in many cases I CAN also buy parts directly from the manufacturer who supply the dealers cheaper than I can from the GM or Ford dealer. Dana, Navistar etc.all have original equipment parts on the market much cheaper than are available from the auto manufacturers they supply.

Either way it seems there should be at least some price break when I buy a backhoe from the manufacturer or a 3rd party who can't offer the same support network of JD or NH etc. JD can still sell if Woods (just example I don't know who makes them) is charging $500 less than them for the same backhoe just because of the paint not clashing with my tractor let alone the support they offer. It baffles me how there is almost no savings to the consumer when they buy 'other' name backhoes. I wouldn't do it for a small savings.

The auto dealers get away with charging twice what the SAME part that is available through other sources. People are too lazy or don't know they can often go to other sources. That is why I buy Navistar parts whenever I can rather than Ford ;)

I have been asked if I want to buy a 1999 b1700 for $12,500. It has a heated cab, loader, rear mounted snow blower, blade and a brush hog. it has 170 hours on it. Is it a good buy or not. I am new to this.

Sales pitch indeed! Well, I guess it worked. On the other hand, I'm very happy with the hydro, and now that I recall he did mention that it was a rental yard who owned the offending machine. Since the operator was obviously renting the machine, it's easy to see how this kind of abuse could occur. We've all seen cases of "it's not mine so to heck with it, run it at the red line til it breaks." He also told me that all of the tractors they have purchased since have been hydrostatic.

Here is an interesting article that is posted over on the Turbo Diesel Register web site. You may want to hold off of buying a Ford Power Stroke for a good long while. ;-) This article reminds me of the experience I had with my Suburban, but then again my wife's car is a Ford and that is the reason I did not buy a Ford diesel pickup. Her 1995 Taurus has been a piece of junk and Ford just does the minimum to get by. Seems like it is getting tougher to find a good, quality built, American car of truck anymore. Only reason I bought the Dodge is for the Cummins engine and the drive train which none of it is Dodge; all Dana or New Process.

If you look at a compact Mahindra and then look at a MF 1200 series(Iseki TK models) you will notice that they are a like. The Mahindra compacts are Iseki from the fire wall back. The engine and front axle are of some other orgin as far as I can tell.

The ePowrReverser transmission is a gear transmission with a quick reverse feature. It has 3 speed ranges and four gear positions resulting in 12 forward and 12 reverse speeds. You have to stop to change speed ranges but you can clutch on the fly to change gears. To reverse direction you just flip a lever on the dash, which is great for loader work.

The eHydro has three speed ranges as well, and you also need to stop to change ranges. eHydro doesn't have gears or clutch to worry about. Within a speed range you press one pedal to go forward and another to go back.

The eHydro consumes a couple of HP to run, so the ePowrReverser delivers more pto HP. If you don't mind changing gears the ePowrReverser is a fine transmission.

I have a 4310 with eHydro, and I love it, but if I ran across the 4410 deal you found I would have gone that route no question about it. That's a great price.
