For some time, I have been thinking about buying a 3pt to 2� receiver hitch but have been dragging my feet on which one to buy. I noticed a lot of buzz on this forum about the receiver hitch made by Bad river and the Flexpoint made by Summit. <br>

I have concluded my evaluation of each and have decided to go with the folks at Summit. The Bad River appears to be an erector set approach copy of the Flexpoint, I am guessing that the Bad River unit is a knock off of the Flexpoint as Flexpoint has been in the marketplace for a long time�I know Northern tool has carried it for several years and they carry quality stuff.. <br>

My concern about the Bad River unit is that it uses the horizontal drawbar as its backbone. My experience with the horizontal drawbar is that structurally it is pretty flimsy because of all the large holes punched into it. I have seen them crack, bend and break. They probably should have used a solid steel bar. Then you�ve got the bolts needed to attach it to the horizontal draw bar ??? Will they vibrate loose overtime? <br>

Summit�s hitch is all welded construction from thick wall square tubing. The structural integrity seems to be superior. I guess when I look at the dollar difference, it comes down to whether or not I want to worry about bolts snapping or vibrating loose and the drawbar bending, I decided to spend the money and not to worry about these things.<br>

I also looked at the Bad River�s safety chain and concluded that it is another questionable design. I would like to have a $ for every chain I have snapped in two. <br>

I noticed that Summit has an accessory they call the Suitcase weight rack which fits between the Flexpoint and the towing insert. It holds 12 suitcase weights totaling about 500 lbs of added weight. This would be a good counter weight for my FEL. They also suggest that you can use it on your pickup or SUV for traction on snowy roads. <br>

My dealer goes to a large hydraulics in a big city for hoses, etc. Hydraulics hose and fittings are pretty much standard internationally and factory parts aren't likely to compete with parts form local hydraulics shops that use generic fittings and hoses cut to length from bulk stock. It'd be rare for a factory part to actually be needed. Most times it would be like going to a car dealer for spark plugs. It also is feasible for owners to make up some types of their own lines from bulk hose and some types of fittings and that would be even cheaper. There are some issues though and I wouldn't do it myself. I'd also take care installing the new hose incorrect routing can result in damage or premature failure of hose.

There are price issues related to the particular hose and type fittings. You have to assume a hydraulics shop would use equivalent or better to original hose (the original hose should be coded to indicate type). The coding also would indicate to a tech the type fittings to use with the hose. You have to assume that a hydraulics shop will either select the right hose if reusing fittings or for new fittings.

If the original hose has reusable fittings and the shop is using them that would make the new hose cheaper that factory hose. If the shop is using new fittings but using permanent fittings while the factory part has reusable fittings, that also would lower the price but wouldn't be the same quality.

Iv'e switched wheels around as Harvey stated, does seem to help alot. as well as adding weight to rear wheels.

loader work requires a lot of back and fourth movement, and yes it does get old fast with a gear trans.AS far as burnt out clutches in 20 hrs..... well ,,,, sounds like a sales pitch!

drive them both and get the one you like most. keep in mind things you might want to do after you buy it, don't get to small of one makeing you wish it was bigger , more powerful later.

AS Tom stated it's an art, I found I made more of a mess the first few times trying to grade. I'm gettin better each time though.not haveing hyd top link is a *&*&^&**. must dismount tractor many times to complete job.

Most dealers have quick hitch pins with snap over locks. They come in many sizes and will often replace the pins on the ends of your turnbuckle so you don't need to run it in and out.

Liljoe, it might be a 30 hp motor but I think the pto will only spool up to 25 hp at best, with that being the min. for a five foot cutter.

This doesn't seem right at this time of year. There have to be other dealers. You might save now to buy the 54" deck, when you trade you will pay the diffrerence again because it is to small a deck for the tractor.

this has been a timely, very costly and highly irratating thing to go through. Granted my in laws were three years late having tanks removed. Paid major big time fines just for this,, The tanks removed, two a day, not much in bad surrounding soils, however, every single dump truck laod that left the property, and CT-DOT w/EPA guy was right there. The fines and un-needed harrassment was unbelievable. The hauler, first load off property hit with ten grand in fines. He went to court, finally this past Thursday. The judge sais, this incident is all over Connecticut and is absolutely uncalled for. To settle it quickly, he asked the trkg co owner, his favorite charity. MS, said the guy as I lost my wife to MS. Good said the judge, send them 750.00 and prove it to me wwithin two weeks, case closed!!

It's good to think about alternative approaches. I started out with the conventional wisdom that a leaching field should never be anywhere a tree. It's always good to question convention, and you never know what you'll find.

Mind you, I don't think I'd go out and plant trees on top my field unless I knew how much life to expect from it or if there are any tricks to keep roots out of the lines. Tree sure would sop up water but I don't think I'd want to count on them curing a wet field problem during the winters around here.

All sort of alternatives such as whole water systems that use ponds and plants are around, but few alternatives would get past health inspectors.

i have the same tractor as u. reg. alt. i believe. remember its a deisel doesnt use any power to run. only power used is to start it and work lights, and the lights dont draw any power to speak of. check with a jd dealer it the master catalog under the 790 tractor listing there is a part number for the lights. they are $36.00 each and plug into the factory wiring harness.

Thanks for the info. I tried out the snowblower on it today prior to delivery next week, It works good but when I pushed in the clutch to stop the PTO there was a loud ratcheting sound from underneath somewhere...sounded like the transmission case. It lasted about 2-3 seconds after every release of the clutch. It could be normal I suppose. Anyone know if it is normal?<br>

Bill,does the battery/alternator keep up with the lights on? I haven't checked the battery volts.with the lights on.

Your local Cadet dealer might be the best place to get one. They often are not as low priced as we think they should be but they often contain more then the model you are looking for information on. Many new ones are computer only.
