I am in the market for my first tractor. I am inbetween the tractors that are listed in my subject field and I am unsure as to which one is right for me. I am somewhat unimformed and looking for some guidence. Why should I buy a Kubota? Are they really the best brand on the market? Does anyone own a B2100 if so would you be willing to email me directly to talk about it? Thanks, Nick

YES! The brake pedals are an issue. If these Kubota owners had them on the correct side so they could use them they would be using them all of the time. I do a lot of different applicactions with my John Deere Tractor. When you have a large bush hog hooked up to the back of your macine and want to make fine adjustments in positioning of the unit without having to go back and forth, the turn brakes let you turn in place. Also, I don't know what climate you live in but if you are ever going to go out in your driveway in the winter and use a loader to scrape up compacted Ice and snow off your driveway.. well? your front tires are off the ground.. so how do you turn in one fluid motion? USE YOUR TURN BRAKES.. it works great. when you are rototilling and you look behing you and you see your pattern is off from the previous pattern by a foot or so.. How do you correct your self in one fluid motion? USE YOUR TURN BRAKES. I never had a problem with Kubota tractors.. till I used one.. and realized that my Previous JD 855 and my New JD 4200 has put all kubotas to shame in the same class. IF you decide to get a belly mower.. roll it under the machine.. snap.. snap. snap..clip and it is one. takes all but three minutes. If you ever decide to get a Loader wich is far superior to KUBOTA loaders.. Unhook the latch, hydraulicly lower the support arms and drive out a few feet.. unplug your plugs.. and your done. and putting it back on is just as easy. And you have a nice universal lever that controls your machine that is located in a very nice area just in hands reach of a comfortable operator. Not way up on the frame like a KUBOTA..<br>You get all of this and no jacks involved..<br>this is a machine that you intend to keep for ten or fifteen years out of your life.. if you have to wait and get the right one then do it.. Don't sell yourself short on gettin a KUBOTA.. People love to sell themselves short too much.. just look at computers.. people buy PC's when a Macintosh is a better machine that can do it all.. easily...<br>so take my advice get the John Deere..and make sure you get the HYDRO!

You are so much better off with the Hydro. I would be so happy with that machine<br>and yes, Hydro would be my first choice. Once you have it you will never want a different machine. All the Hydro Nay sayers.. wish they had hydros.. Not to mention John Deere Hydro.. The only Hydro tractor that uses twin fwd & rev pedals to make driving a hell of a lot easier. And get this.. you can use the turn pedals with the John Deere Hydro.. Most other tractors can't. because JD has the patent on the twin pedals.<br>You will love this machine, especially if you get a loader on it..<br>Jason

Ken,<br>With regard to short trips and frequent starts, you are one who could probably bennefit the most from what most synthetics offer. The fact that you repeatedly start the engine, and only drive it for very short distances, does not allow the oil to even heat up enough to drive off any condensation, unless you drive like Mario Andretti. This allows acids to build up in the oil and it attacks anything it comes into contact with. Secondly, the action of starting a dry engine over and over again to get 6500 miles per year is very hard due to the fact that most engine wear occures at start up and shortly there after, while the engine is running, and oil has not yet circulated to all vital parts. I use Amsoil, and it clings to metal, and stays in place with much greater tenacity than other oils I have used, including Mobile 1. This helps in two ways in my opinion. It lubrcates while the engine oil pump gets what is in the sump around the engine, and the tenacity of the coating left helps keep the acids away from those vital parts. Thirdly, the easy pumpibility of synthetics gets that oil around to everything much faster. <br>Last but not least, extended drains, or better yet doing analysis and filter changes using a quality oil helps save oil resourses and the enviroment. And an added benefit, which I recently had the good luck of having, it helps show if there is a problem with the engine, long before you would notice it, and long before it does any permanent damage to those extremely expensive vehicles, or tractors as in this site. So your assesment that it wouldn't benefit you much may be slightly off base, but that is your decision, as it is, as they say on the World News Tonight, Your Money.<br>Good luck with the vehicles.<br>Bill

Seems reasonable. The way I look at it you get a brand new JD with 27hp for less than 9000k you are doing good. Plus you will know the history of the tractor from new and it will last you forever. Now another way to look at it for a little over 2000k you can get it with PS and 4wd--better resale and loader friendly. But 2000k + or- is a lot of money and could buy some much needed implements.

Many posts have mentioned the stiffness of the hydro pedals on the 4000 series. My 4200 seemed to be getting a little stiff, so after checking the manual, I went to grease the 2 grease fittings shown in the manual. After crawling under, over, around and feeling every possible hiding place I can only find one fitting under the hydro pedals. Has anyone else found the second, and if so, where?

well forget the prime mover, especially in light of the PTO v. gasoline garbage.<br>The alternator is really the meat and potatos. Important is number of poles i.e. RPM, and where it was wound. Really in the end, the rest doesnt matter. <br>Chris

I have a 1925 with 330 hours. I'm in SE Michigan and I'm on my third cable. The first one froze up in the winter. The dealer installed a new one which also froze up. I got a third cable (all under warranty) and pulled the inner cable out and greased it with axle grease before putting it back in the outer cable. I installed it on the tractor and it's been fine ever since.

Just for your info. I passed thru Helena, Arkansas last friday and I saw what appeared to be two new 1070's.<br>One was 4 wd and the other 2wd. Its possible they were 970's, but having just bought a new 1070 I think I would<br>recognize one. I absolutely love mine. Just thought it may be a helpful lead for someone.<br>James
