One other thing you may want to take into consideration is TORQUE vs HP. Kubota rates their engines at 2700 rpm; John Deere at 2600 rpm. The John Deere 4410 makes 81 ft./lbs torque at 2600 rpm. More than any or the other 4000 Ten Series tractors except the 4710. The 3430 has the same displacement, bore and stroke engine and makes 79.9 ft./lbs. torque at 2700 rpm. The L3830 makes 89 ft./lbs. torque at 2700 rpm. So by these figures the more accurate comparison would be the L3130 vs 4310 and the L3430 vs 4410. Both are real nice tractors. I got to looking up specs. and wanted to make sure I compared apples to apples. I would go for the L3830 if your sold on orange paint.

I am planning on getting a logging winch with a Kubota 3130 HST with AG tires. I do a mixture of firewood and sawlog harvesting in my woodlot. <br>

In my visits to the dealers I have had discussions on the Fransgard V-2800 or V-4000, and the Farmi JL351P skidding winches. <br>

Anyone had any experience with these? I would also like to know if the 3130 HST is adequate to run them. Thanks, Jim

The hydraulic chute sounds like a good idea, though I suppose it means I would need the remote hydraulic control valve option which I haven't priced on the 3130HST.
The Puma specs. I have lists a Puma-64 and Puma-74 but no 68.
The Puma-74 has a 22" impeller diameter and weighs 680 lbs. while the Woods SS74 has a 23" impeller diameter and weighs 507 lbs. The Woods does have a bolt-on cutting edge but no hydraulic option listed for the chute. It sure would be nice to try them out before buying. I thank you guys for your thoughts, Jim.

Jeff, I wish I could take credit for that and weld/fabricate so well but credit goes to my firewood cutting partner. I have it all painted up John Deere Industrial yellow. Had a bunch of 10 year old cans so that is what it got. Looks good.

Sounds to me like a power and beyond kit. Probbly installed after it was bought to run something like the feed drums on a chipper that have their own remote valve. I have the same thing on my 1070, I can only use the rear hydralics if the implement has the control valve.

There are three basic frame sizes in the NH line. 35-45 HP are all built on the largest frame size. The frame size really defines what the tractor will do with basic implement sizes and so forth. In most cases, the larger engine will give more reserve capacity and allow jobs to be done more quickly.

I looked at tractors in this size range a little over a year ago and decided on the TC45. I bought a manual gear transmission, because I am accustomed to them, but many new tractor owners opt for the Hydrostatic (HST) transmission.

I live at high altitude in the mountains, so my TC45 engine only produces about 38 HP due to the thin air. So, the performance of my tractor is more like that of a TC40. I like it very much. If you go with the 35, you will get a three cylinder engine, but the 40 and 45 have four cylinder engines and will produce better low end torque.

I recommend getting one of the larger ones with the four cylinder engine. This is especially true if you get the HST which uses a few HP in the transmission. You can always throttle back a bigger tractor. The cost from one engine size to the next is not bad once you have selected a frame size. The fuel usage difference is insignificant.

I hope that you are as happy with your NH as I have been with mine.

When you say lift mode, do you mean actually raising the 3ph at the same time as actuating the fel or am I missing something here?

Unfortunatly what to some is a downward spiral is an oppertunity for others to succeed. Yes, basically in order to go up with some, takes others down. There is no such thing as staying the same size if you are a buisness as some one else is working at getting larger which would mean you are smaller. There are many glitches in the world today and you can't be sharp enough to catch them all. You only have the choice as to if they get you the second time!

Ken is correct they both go to the same server.

jPlan is the company name I use and was the original domain name for the "Compact Tractor Board".

The Board was renamed TractorPoint and so was the domain. I route all jplan traffic to TractorPoint. At some point jPlan traffic will not route to TractorPoint, so everyone should use TractorPoint.

I was going to go NiMH as I have worked with them and can get the battery packs made up already. I like the idea of mounting the batteries below the CG making it a very stable rig.

I'll experiment with dumping some of the fluid. I don't think I want to remove the tire and lay it down to dump the air because I'll probably not be able to stand it up again without help. I don't have a hoist to use to pick it back up.

On the Firestone ag tire page they show a tool that is used to fill the tires. It looks like the tool could also be used to deflate just the air in the tire when the stem is positioned at the top. Has anyone used one of these tools? What are they called, and where can you get 'em? We don't have TSC in our state.

I faced the situation of needing a larger, heavier machine for some work and a lighter, nimbler machine for mowing (to avoid soil compaction on the septic field). I decided to get the larger tractor and instead of buying a finish mower attachment for it I will spend that money on buying an inexpensive rider (cheap new one or good used one). The amount of lawn we will have to tend when we finish the landscaping is no more than 1/2 acre. In my case two machines seemed to make sense and the total cash outlay wasn't any more.
