I am considering building an all electric CUT. From the work I have done you could get some 3-4 hour run time between charges. If done properly 6-8 around the yard. Of you could rid of the hydraulic pump whine you could run around the yard in relative silence.
In Army terms sort of like the difference between the Commanche and a UH-1.

The differential lock does not usually need to be engaged for a very long time. Just until you get traction again. Also you can bump the steering break on the rear wheel that is spinning to put some torque to the side with traction. One other point is to make sure your not spinning fast when attempt either maneuver.

Can't comment on specifics. I have a 5' Meteor, which is a middle quality/price blower and has worked well for me through four winters.

Other than strength of construction and I hear that Pronovost is very good there, the best way to compare blowers is to ask how much snow they blow and how far. The answer to that is mostly the fan diameter and rpm. If a blower doesn't throw much snow, then going will be pretty slow. You have to cut ground speed or the blower turns into a plow and starts pushing snow ahead of it until traction breaks. Then you have to stop and chew away at the pile or turn around and move some with the loader.

I do have to use my lowest reverse for wet snows starting about 2' deep so I could use a blower with a bigger fan. It blows it far enough, just not enough of it sometimes. I don't know if my 24hp tractor could run a much bigger fan though. Oh, I have to do frequent and precise aiming. I wouldn't be without my hydraulic chute, although there are electrically rotated ones as well.

I'm entirely interested doing well here and preserving what is happening. Censorship is a general issue with me. This and YTMAG are the only boards I've read at all in years.

I probably had had some vanilla flavoured frustration when I was over there as well but my issue was not with the participants. I don't know how things are elsewhere now but I think we've got it good here and that's what I'm interested in.

Balance is good. Joe Lewis had incredible balance, which is probably why he reigned the longest. Had quick feet too. Nobody ever moved Larry Homes out of the centre. He did it all with the basics (jab and cross) and he reigned a long time. Never lost that fight either according to the pros I watched the fight with.

Oops, I'm lapsing into metaphor again so I'll stop and just say that to me censorship is being out of balance. Or at least it's an artificially imposed balance, which is why it doesn't really work. It's good here and censorship is what we don't have. It's what you get when people expect someone else to do what they should do for themselves.

Yes try to see if its a 1943 like Mark H suggested. The war pennys have gone up a lot in the past few years. Try going to www dot PCGS dot com and finding the date. On the main page you will see a daily price report. A 1943 on PCGS-MS-65 is currently $6.00. Thats is in near flawless condition and only then if graded by PCGS. There are other gradeing services but coins graded by them generally trade for less. You might go to eBay and do a search then track a couple of auctions for the same coin/date to get a real world feel of the value of your find.

Most people do a bunch of analyzing, which might be better for learning about tractors in general than for buying them. When it comes to buying, there will be a point where an 'Ah this is the one' idea takes a hold of you. That idea almost always ends up being the best tractor for a person and the dealer has a lot to do with it. In the meantime things seem complicated and thinking goes around in circles, but you're learning about tractors.

In practice, 'one size fits all' doesn't work much better in tractors than it does in clothing. There also is no best manufacturer. All the big names and some of the smaller ones make fine machines. There always will be contractors for big jobs and small engine for small ones. Choice of a tractor mostly affects the mix of contractors and small engines and how much time it takes to do the tractor work. Owners as well as the property adapt to whatever tractor is available. Keep looking and the 'Ah this is the one' thing will happen.

On the other hand, tractors are expensive and you sure want to keep them busy, and to be busy they need implements. In addition to the other suggestions, I'd look at the on-going work and figure what is needed if the tractor is going to be started every week or so. Brushing may be done a couple times a year but finish mowing more often and the mowers are often different. Good chance the tires would be different too (Tires and size are the main choices in choosing a tractor). Are you going to be happy with a tractor that only has a rotary cutter for a year or so?

I'd think 4wd should be a definite and HST a probable. Glide, or power shift; or even my old synchromesh gears work fine for fieldwork and may even be preferable to HST. HST struts its stuff with loader work and tillers. Tillers because even the lowest gear may be too fast at PTO RPM. They also give braking and can be good on hills.

Despite my comments elsewhere about using my loader less and less, people do use loaders for everything imaginable. A loader is likely what keeps most compacts reasonably busy. Taking a hard look at a loader now might be good. Packages are easier and sometimes priced better. If you're looking at NH models, checking out super steer might be interesting. It does make a bigger tractor more nimble.

Rat poison works real well. We live trap 1st, lead poison 2nd and use rat poisin 3rd once there are entrenched.

They do smell for 3 or 4 days but no more problems in the walls.

Thanks Tom. I used the loader to move some dirt Sat. eve. and it worked well. Our dirt is red clay with an ample supply of rocks. Digging a hole is the most miserable job you can do here. We had a 2"+ rain Thur and Fri which softened the dirt enought it could be handled. I was scooping the raised mounds over geo-thermal trenches to level the ground preparatory to preping for black dirt. The loader would have had a lot of pressure on it and it worked well. Now I have a pile of dirt to deal with. I'll add more to it tomorrow.

As long as it works this well I'll not do anything to the system yet. I need to order a shop and parts manual as well as a manual for the loader.

(1) I have a friend that needs a steering pin that mates with the worm gear in the steering unit assy.(I think it is a 127) Is that available by itself or do you have to get the whole steering box?
(2) I have looked online for a parts breakdown(Parts manual) for the Cub Cadets. Has anyone located any. I have a model 149 but most is interchangeable. Thanks for all of your help.

There are other manufacturer of CUT tires, including Titan and Michelin. I poked around the Titan site and didn't find the 7.2-16's (might have missed 'em) but I did find 7.5-16's. Do you know what brand tires the Kubota has?

Mark, I think you have or had a set of EZ-Weights. In a search I found a comment you read that you had 150 lbs per tire using EZ-Weights on your 4100. Is that the maximum weight they can hold? If I drain my loaded tires I am guessing that I'll lose about 300 lbs/tire (I may be wrong).

I NEED SOME HELP WITA A LOADER PROBLEM. WHENEVER I MOVE THE LOADER CONTROL TO FLOAT THE VALVE LOCKS UP AND CANT BE MOVED. THE BUCKET CURL WORKS FINE BUT THE LIFT IS STUCK. THE PIN THAT CONTROLS THE LIFT IS STUCK IN THE FLOAT POSITION. IS THERE AN EASY FIX?

ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS! What a day! Wish I had gotten up the gumption to get the boat out earlier. Didn't catch a dad gum busted thing but had a GREAT time! I need to do that more often. Nothing more rewarding than the smile of a child that has had a great time.
