Both of my tractors have intake screens protecting the radiators.
I don't mow and if I did the conditions would be less severe than those described in the original post. I routinely check my screens but they have never required cleaning.

If I had to hazard an educated guess I would say the BX design might give you more time between screen cleanings but only because the air intake grill is not actually coming in contact with the grass.

It would still suck up floating chaff, but you could clean it while you are driving because the initial intake grill is pretty fine and is located right below the steering wheel. There is a second, even finer screen in front of the radiator.

re tile roofing...The extra weight has to be accounted for in the design. Some structures are not suitable for certamic tile roofing without reinforcement. Lightweight concrete tile and Sierra Tile don't add the same amount of weight and can be put on most structures. Having a ceramic tile roof is certainly less dangerous than a second floor with respect to earthquake safety.

When you look at the wildfire fighting catalogs, you see self contained backpacks, axes, hoes, and shovels. Having an apparatus that you can carry on the 3PH that will give you 50-100 gallons that can be used in a hurry has to be a benefit, especially if that water can be put on the fire in the first minutes.

Water tanks are common in some areas. In the California desert, for example, you cannot find suitable water and many of the cabins have tanks of several thousand gallons for holding water that is delivered by truck. These tanks are not all that expensive and would certainly be a benefit to safety when firefighting is concerned. Even though the original post addressed having a well tapped into an underground river, the delivery rate might only be a few gallons per minute. However, even at that rate, it would only take a day or two to completely fill a 10,000 gallon tank. This is enough to make a difference.

I lived in Laguna Hills California when the Laguna Fire hit in the late 1980s. I don't remember what started the fire, but it was sustained by overgrown vegitation, poor access to properties, dry winds, and houses that were not fire resistant construction. Many people did not learn from this and built similar structures to replace the old.

Most of New Mexico where I live now is subject to wildfire. But the style of the housing is different here. My house like many others is stucco on the exterior and has a flat roof with no eaves. Many of the roofs are covered with stone. There are just very few ways for a passing fire to attack this type of structure. Adobe brick construction is even more fire resistant. Only the entry doors are wood, and on my out buildings, the doors are steel.

If I had to guess I would say that the majority of plumbing systems could deliver 4 gpm. Our house can do 4 gpm but I think the restriction is in the hose bibs. Code here requires funky freeze proof bibs with vacuum breakers which seem to restrict flow. We get more than 5 gpm out of our tub faucets. Old plumbing systems often have restrictions that would prevent delivery of 4 gpm, and well flows can slow down in dry season too. Here they allow new wells to go in that deliver as little as 3 gpm.

Mark, I sure am glad this all came out before I ever used their products. It just goes to prove that even a pissing contest can result in getting out good info to help others. There certainly is a lot to wade through. The one thing that I was leary of with Amsoil is the claim that you can go double the manufactures recommended oil change mileage with their products but only if you use their filters. Looking at their filters they dont seem any different from anyone elses on the single filter system.

Harvey, I haven't done much metal fabrication since high school. I had one semester of metal shop nearly 30 years ago and even then we didn't do much welding or cutting. Mostly lathe, brake, and milling work. It would be fun to start building some of this stuff myself but don't have the tools. My wife would probably want to divorce me if I built a shop and then stocked it with tools after buying a tractor. She has been great but I don't want to push it! I will probably get a welder of some sort but need to study up on it first.

A fuel problem seems a pretty good bet and that's what I'd continue to check out.

As an alternative, you might try again after the tractor cooled-down and do work that isn't especially heavy for the tractor or use the cutter at very slow ground speeds. A 4' cutter may be a heavy load for a TC18 depending on what was cut. The problem could be over-heating--especially if it was making black exhaust. I don't know if an 18 has a gauge of a light. If it has a light, I don't know if performance would start to deteriorate before the light came on. Checking the rad screen also would be good.

It would work great for what your doing. I use mine to keep my road graded, I've also used it to rip sod off some of my plots before disking.I really need a hyd top link , that would keep you from mounting and dismounting tractor to set cut angles so often.

I thought the same thing when I saw the pic of one mounted on a skid steer. Sure would be a bugger to spend that much and then find the spade wouldn't sink in your particular soil. Using a 3ph mounted one would create forces similar to a 3ph backhoe, so the load on the tractor frame also might be a good thing to consider.

It doesn't sound like you're willing to go for the price tags though so it's probably not an issue. I wouldn't go for the price either but we are in logging country. Transplanting trees here would be sort of like selling ice in the arctic.

I guess that you don't have a valve now and that the loader has double acting bucket cylinders and gravity lift cylinders. I think that some older loaders work that way and valve assemblies for them probably are available but I don't know specifically. The conventional assemblies found today are for double acting cylinders on both bucket and lift and the lift spools. I can't see that they'd work for a one-way cylinder.

If you have identified a valve assembly and the question is about power-beyond I believe the answer is that it should work but there's a risk. A valve that isn't power-beyond rated can be ruined if a control valve is operated at the same time that a loaded 3ph is in lift mode.

The exhaust galley on the loader valve is exposed to high-pressures generated by the 3ph load and can rupture. People do operate such configurations and they're just careful to avoid operating both at the same time. The issue would exist for the bucket circuit and may also exist for the lift circuit.

The thing is that some single return line valve assemblies are power-beyond rated, so a particular valve might be fine for the application. You just have to know the particular valve. I'm thinking that there may be some issues I'm not aware of but it might be easier to buy double-acting lift cylinders and use a conventional loader valve. There a bunch of useful features available for loader valves that may not be available in a valve that is designed for the loader.

The service on a Cub Cadet are spotty, some dealers do waranty claims on the larger tractor some don't. I would also look at the CK-20 Kioti for the price. I think the resale will be better on the JD or the Kubota.

I have a L3130 with the 72" belly mower with side discharge. I was wondering if there was a grass collection system made for this tractor. I looked at the kubota website and couldn't find anything.
