I would certainly agree that in extreme conditions the screens would plug faster. I does seem to me at least the higher they are the longer they would go without plugging under normal operating conditions, or at least for my operating conditions. 2" is a pretty fair amount of height. Haveing said that I am speaking theoretically and I am certainly not going to debate it with some one who has had both machines. I find mine picks up a fair amount of material but I also think that is normal for the machine and is really just a part of basice maintenance.

My congrats too on the 790. Mine is 3yrs old with 250 hours. Machine and dealer are exteamly reliable. A good point was made up front here and that is "how does it feel to operate". the machine needs to "fit" you and each of us just likes different things about the machine and deck on it - where the handles are, pedals etc. Most all are good machines but they need to fit and then get the job done. You made a good choice for you.

They probably want to keep their costs down and their profits up. If they use that synthetic they will have to charge a lot more .... and if they put it in standing on one leg, even more. lol.

...and when I lifted the left side to remove the tire, I used a floor jack. After removing the tire I lowered the left side to level the tractor, before I changed fluids.

I am currently looking at a New Holland TC24 (24hp). I guess the MF 1225/1230 are the closest machines to it? Any ideas what machine/fel/bh go for?

My manual lists a 54" box blade as the max for the B7800. This is an odd size, must be a Kubota peculiar item. I've got a 60" bushhog boxblade, I've only used it once (tractor has 2.5 hrs), but it seems to work fine, the B7800 handles it nearly as well as my 50hp John Deere.

Tom, another, possibly easier more durable solution is to do as one of the local lawn sprinkler installation companies does.

They purchased a couple of Army Surplus tarps (at Princess Auto) and had a local canvas shop cut them into 4' wide strips with heavy reinforcing and a length of 1/2" rope sewn into one side.

They pile the dirt on the tarp along side the trench, but on the OPPOSITE side from the 'backfill' machine. To backfill the trench all you have to do is tie the ropes to the machine and back away from the trench.

I'm told that by using this method the entire pile of dirt rolls into the trench as a single unit. The key to this is that the topsoil which was dug up first is therefore on the bottom of the pile, flipping the pile over means the topsoil ends up back on top.

It's a terminology issue but I guess the question is about the 3-point hitch. My Ford has a crank leveler on one side. When you crank it, one end of an implement goes one way and the other end moves in the opposite direction.

Some hydraulic levelers do have adjustments on both sides but that just provides a greater range of adjustment. Generally a leveler is used to just to level an implement or give it a slightly different tilt than the tractor has, so a limited range of adjustment usually is adequate.

I do use my side-leveler to cut mild side-grades with a box scraper--usually I'm putting crowns on drives. I haven't wished for more adjustment than given by my single-sided leveler. When using an implement in this manner, you do have to be aware that 3ph's don't hold an implement down and that the lower link-arms on many 3ph's can float independently. If I sit the whole weight of the box down on the ground, the box tends to take the same angle as the ground irrespective of the side-leveler adjustment. When I cut side-grades, I hold one end of the box off the ground with position control and make repeated passes until I have the new grade worked across the entire width of the blade.

Good point by Peters. If a tractor can be driven to the site, a tractor plus trailer probably can be as well. The cost of a utility trailer, 3ph trailer bar and detachable bucket forks might cost more than a grapple but all of them would likely see some on-going use. A trailer that has a crank-up stand would be good.

If long pieces are laid across forks a bunch of brush can be piled on top relatively securely. However, most loaders don't have automatic leveling and the bucket tilts back when it's raised. You do have to be careful or a load that's not tied on can fall back onto the tractor and operator.

If those same long pieces end up on the bottom of the trailer, then the trailer can be unloaded by just pulling out the long pieces. Properly done the whole trailer load just slides out. It's a lot easier than trying to unload it piece by piece from the top. If you use a tandem trailer and the landfill has tippage fees, sometimes there aren't any or they are less if the wheels on one axle are removed. I saw a trailer that that on the highway yesterday and I didn't wonder why it was like that for more than a second or so. I'm full of little tricks today.

Are you having front end problems? Seen a couple here breaking the linkage with after market loaders that were to high load rating and being used to there fullest and they were lasting about that long.

The news story said that the hand was amputated because of infection. He had stopped and crawled under the picker to clear it--probably had done it a thousand times even if it is a safety no no.

The picture was of a fairly young person, and mostly likely he was trying to tough out a one-person operation. I imagine it will be even more difficult now but people in the country do have a way of pulling together and I imagine there will be a local solution. I am amazed how well we keep track of each other around here. I imagine he'll still need luck and good wishes.

The story reported the farmer as saying that he couldn't sleep because of the pain and he must have been hallucinating and imagined he was at a BBQ. He was cutting on things and didn't realize they were his fingers till after the fact. Horrible as it sounds, it was probably would be easier than knowing what you're doing.
