I don't want to advise someone to do something that manufacturers disapprove of and the rest of the crowd does too, but I think that the 'whole picture' needs to be looked at.

There are two big factor that have to be looked at here.

First is if the unit is too heavy, but never needs to be lifted clear of the ground, only carried in 'operating' position, and will only be operated on fairly flat level ground, is it really too heavy?

Secondly, the original post didn't say what it was to be used for, or how often. One of my clients has an older Case 235 (24 ? hp. Mitsubishi) 2wd unit that runs a 6' bushog to keep the excess property neat. However, it is cut every week, and is very flat and level.

Aside from torque, gears, and all that, our 6' commercial front-deck units only run an 20 or 22 hp gas engine, and will cut more grass and faster than you can imagine.

I can't believe 20 hp (and MUCH more torque) to sharp set of knives on a 6' bushog couldn't handle the task on the right terrain on a regular basis.

How you like sweltering heat, humidity, mosquito's, tornadoes, and floods Jeff. The river is too high right now but who knows, the fish just may be biting in the backwaters. Come take a look for yourself. I see you own a Kubota. There is your reason for the black oil. I had an L245 and for some reason immediately after fire up the oil was black. No amount of flushing changed it. Not so on my Cummins and Deere. Mind you , most of my trips are 30 miles or more and several hours on the tractor when I use it. I think the Fleetguard filters may have something to do with keeping the oil cleaner.

I agree with you Mark, I have always run turf's on all the 'light' (tractors, etc.) equipment, I recently got a Kubota with R4's on it for puttering around the house. It is HST not gear-drive so that may have an effect also, but I discovered in touching up the driveway and such that it has no where near the traction that the comparable unit had on turf's.

Unless your tires sink down into the surface you are trying to get traction from the big lugs (and the resulting lug face area) do nothing for you, in the case of a relatively firm surface, turf included, you need many small lugs to give you a little bite each resulting in superior traction. The fact that the rubber used to make turf's is a lot softer than that used to make R4's is probably alot to do with it also, especially in the cold when R4's are notoriously slippery.

Has anyone successfully converted a Yanmar 2-point hitch tiller to 3-point hitch configuration? I have a Yanmar 1106RS tiller that came with the 2-pt. (Japanese-style) hitch, I'd like to convert it to a 3-pt. hitch for ease of swapping implements. Any info/help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I vote for the carburetor problem. They don't make gas like they used to, well they can't make it like they used to....

You MUST use something to stabilize the gas if you store it for any length of time.

Best thing for over-winter storage for your mower is to drain the tank and then run the engine until it stops on its own.

For now I would repeat what worked the first time, but I would do it with a fresh tank of gas and a new fuel filter.

Bob - While I was (slowly) typing my response, you posted the dimensions for your prospective tiller. Believe me, your TC33D will handle a 48 to 50 inch tiller like a hot knife through butter. And by all means, get a slip clutch. Best of luck.

The 90" deck is the biggest that I'm aware of. The multi decks have more flexibility and use smaller blades for less chance of scalping.

Never the less, the manufacture of my PHA speced a 5/16" grade-2 bolt, which is an ordinary hardware piece. It goes through a cross-hole in the auger shaft. My impression is that the use of grade-2 bolts is fairly common so it would be a good idea to verify what is required.

The pin for my snowblower is much smaller--6mm I think. Guessing from the diameter it is probably hardened. I have a supply of bolts but I guess I'd better verify what they are before next winter. A parts guy in a nearby dealership couldn't ID the bolt but said their 'bolts-guy' (a salesman) likely could figure it out. The pin for my snowblower goes through the flange of the pto shaft at the drive end.

I've heard of soft bolts bending rather than breaking but usually in cases where the bolts are very loose or the shoulders of the hole are dished. Like everything else, shear bolt holes can wear out.

Murf-The idler pulleys have sealed brgs and I'll try your needle idea.

Replacing the worn brgs in the blade spindle housing is the bigger issue. These are tapered wheel brgs (2 per spindle)that have to be replaced, but I can't get the spindle pushed out to gain access.- Thanks

I have the 60" deck on my BX22 I just got done mowing my field(no lawn here)and you MUST have the rpm's all the way up. I mowed in high gear knowing that some weeds might be left behind and was quite suprised at how well it cut. As mentioned above, check the blades,cut at maximum rpm, and slow down.
