I don't know where you got the quote for the 2210, but the quotes I got for Kubota 2200 and the 2210 were within $200 of each other. That was with FEL and 62"MMM. $12,200 for 2210. $12,400 for the Kubota 2200.

I have not seen the Massey myself, but I've heard from some have looked at them and were not pleased at all.

BTW, I love my 2210.

The types of soil you have makes the most difference. Kubota recommends a 42 as max. I've sold 38" to the 42" with these tractors with good results. If you have clay stay away from the 50" definitly!

If you found the leak soon enough than you shouldn't have run the tractor enough to hurt it. The best you can do is call the dealer and ask him to check it out. That way if there was damage other than just the leak it would be documented.

Brian, there is a dealer, selling from his house I believe, who does nothing but Asian Grey Market units in the Niagara Falls area, selling to the orchard operators mostly. With the US/Cdn. exchange and all it might be worth the drive, since Greys are legal in Canada parts are plentiful, especially in the Fruit belt there.

I'm curious about dr's comment about SS and 4wd. I wonder if it's a geometry or a drive issue?

I believe that some heavy construction equipment does have a differential in the front drive line to address the 4wd issue. The idea is that the front and rear tires travel different distances in a turn, same as the left and right tires do. The outer rear wheel (where most of the traction is) may quit driving in a tight turn or the front wheel start sliding. At any rate, the 4wd stops working and a differential in the drive line cures the problem.

I don't know if SS's shorter turning radius makes the problem more pronounced than with conventional steering or if there's some other issue.

I not sure it the model hoe is one that people use the 3ph to mount and dismount it, but somebody likely will comment. I'd guess you'd recognize if it's a type of sub-frame that requires the lower link arms to be taken off and they aren't around now.

The main thing you're likely missing is a shunt hose to reconnect the PB line from the loader valve back together when the hoe is removed. I think JD PB kits for their hoes use special connectors so having a short hose made up may not be straightforward.

As Leonard said, larger diameter cylinders give less speed but more power. However, there should be some idea of the strength of the loader and tractor frames in comparison the cylinders. An excessively powerful loader could damage something. I remember a comment once where a homegrown power steering conversion worked but powered the steering against it's stops and bent some stuff.

The hookup described should work. If the high-pressure line continues on to the 3ph, the loader valve should be power-beyond rated. If it isn't there is potential that operating a loader valve when the 3ph was in lift mode with a heavy load could ruin the loader valve. Some PB rated valves have two return ports. The PB port connects to the high-pressure line while the other goes directly to the reservoir.

If the existing line is steel tubing, I'd consider having a pro install the necessary fittings and maybe make a few bends. However, any steel line probably is metric and a hydraulic shop would have to have metric flaring tools etc. My Japanese Ford uses standard NPT fittings for ports but the tubing is metric so fitting threads aren't a reliable guide for the tubing size.

Leonard probably knows if the tractor has a relief valve somewhere ahead of the 3ph. Some loader valves have their own reliefs and some don't, but an installation should ensure that there is a relief valve ahead of the control valves in the loader valve assembly.

I guess nobody is every a completely reliable operator and no design where the tractor is reasonable to operate is going to be foolproof at saving us from ourselves.

I remember an 'OOPS I'm going too fast in reverse' situation. I jammed on the brakes as a first reaction before hitting the clutch. Trouble was that I had been brake steering so the latch plate was still up and I only hit one brake pedal. The tractor started taking off across the yard at a fair clip before I clutched it. Lucky I was far enough from a fence so the loader didn't come around and take a section out.

Gear-heads sort of have an opposite problem. There's quite a few maintenance jobs that are very convenient to do while a tractor is idling (you can't grease all fittings on most loaders and backhoes without repositioning them). The safety stuff says 'always sit everything on the ground and shut off the engine whenever the operator leaves the seat.' It's impossible to comply completely, and even trying would wear out a bunch of starters. So I leave the tractor idling but I know there's a risk of bumping the tractor into gear while working on it I haven't done anything like that yet but I remind myself of the potential from time to time. I do remember that I went to shut the engine down once while standing beside the tractor (another no no) and realized that I had the steering column shifter rather than the hand throttle in my hand. That would have been an 'OOPS the tractor just ran over my foot or worse' situation.

I think a test for relief pressure can be taken without hooking a t-fitting into the high-pressure line ahead of the valve. I think that just connecting a gauge with a quick connect fitting into one of the cylinder line ports and then operating the valve just long enough to take a reading should work and would be easier. In such a hookup, the gauge should simulate an infinite load on the loader and the gauge should read relief pressure since both the loader and system relief valves would be upstream. What I mentioned in an earlier post about simultaneously operating valves would be useful for measuring working. SAE standards for hydraulic hose requires bursting pressures at least 4 times greater than rated pressures.

Similar to MarkH's comment, this tweaking buz doesn't answer the question of whether the loader is designed to operate at the relief pressure speced for the loader valve or at the system relief pressure of the tractor, which might be greater. For that matter, whether a particular tractor is designed for the full speced pressure of any after-market loader that might fit on it also is a guess. Loaders do break after long use and loaders do sometimes break tractors.

Aside from safety issues, there's probably enough 'padding' in most designs to tolerate considerable tweaking. However, it's good to keep in mind that engineering design generally works to specified life-expectancies. However, these are probability concepts and it's hard to say what's going to happen to a particular unit. Even within designed operation, some abused units go on forever and some babied ones produce warranty work.

In terms of safety stuff, I tend to depend on feel rather than measurement. If I lower a heavy bucket and stop it, I know I need more 3ph weight if the tractor feels like it wants to pitch forward. I know I can't lift the rear with the loader when a backhoe is mounted but the 3ph weight is going to change. Making something bomb-proof for the worst case may be overly conservative and doesn't allow that the operator should be the best ultimate safety feature.

The "hook" at the top and the "pin" at the bottom of the bracket are available from JD parts and are listed as part of the bucket for whatever size loader you have (410, 420, etc.). I guess you could weld these onto anything you wanted to attatch to a loader, or as it looks like in the rock rake photos, onto a steel plate which was then welded onto the back of the rake. Knowing Deere, the hook and the pin are probably astronomically expensive, but having those two "custom" pieces makes the rest of it pretty easy.

I don't think any companies makes a bolt on loader for the S370. You'll have to modify brackets or have them fabricated by someone. I have a new loader that would be the right size for it. Most of the compact loaders on the market are too big.

I have a BX2200 and a 48" Gearmore rough cutter ("bushhog"). I can cut thick brush and weeds 8' (yes FEET) tall without the engine dropping a single rpm. You could race the thing through your pasture at full throttle. I have a homemade dolly for the rough cutter. It goes on or off in <5 min. For the lawn, the Kubota 60" mid-mount deck goes on/off almost as quickly.

Though the 2200 doesn't take the backhoe, it will take the light auger made by Northern Tool & Eqpt. You're looking at a few hundred $ rather than a few thousand for something to dig vertical holes, though the auger won't dent hardpan. It can also be a bear to attach/dis-attach. I have a chain hoist on a rolling heavy pipe in my garage trusses. I use this to hoist the auger off then pivot, roll 2' to the wall and bolt/lock it to the wall.

I bought that model from Northern and use it on my BX2200. It makes a 5' hole in 5 seconds in soft dirt, longer for dryer/harder soil. With no hydraulic down pressure, it won't even put a dent in hardpan (this hardpan is close to the properties of concrete). A friend with a carbide tipped auger on a Bobcat can down pressure and cut the 2 ft.hardpan layer in about 15 seconds, but don't dream of drilling in hard stuff with the Northern model.

Consider whether you'll be cutting on flat ground or on a slope. As a subcompact, the BX has a wider wheelbase and sits lower than most comparable models. The lower center of gravity makes it handle inclined turns that would roll other tractors.

Use a voltmeter and read the voltage accross the battery with the tractor running. If it reads over 15 volts the battery is overcharging. I t should read between 13.5 and 14.5 or so volts with the engine running and about 12.6 - 13 volts or so with the engine off.

The primary concern, second to the warrantee aspect that Art pointed out, would be the structural strength of each.

Years ago, Woods manufactured all the FEL's for Orange. Then all of a sudden, early 1990's, orange was designing and manufacturing the FEL's themselves. Check the overall dimensioning of the materials used on both, including wall thickness, and pin sizing. Any two may look comparable, but strength and ease of control - such as the loader valve, do they both come equipped with a power beyond port? for example - and optional hookups, play key roles.
