Plots - Forget the wheel weights. The picture of those truck brake drums made me think that with a bit of welding and another set of tires and rims, you could have the first JD790 with duals on the block. Now THAT would be one mean looking little tractor!

Mark, your point about the 2wd versus 4wd is well taken, however, you missed my point a couple of ways, 1) if the tractor won't stay on a hill in 2wd, maybe it's not the best place to be, and 2) if the tractor is in 2wd and starts to slide you will still have front wheels rolling and therefore at least a chance at steering, kind of like truckers used to do by permanently restricting front brakes so that in an emergency they would always have steering because the front wheels could not lock.

I guess your hose has threaded fittings at each end rather than a quick connector on one end. I haven't replaced this type of hose but I wouldn't hesitate doing it. There is a picture on the link below of my manifold block and loader valve assembly outlet section below that has this type of hose. Note that my couplers are permanent types.

If I were doing it, for removing the hose, I'd sit the hoe on a secure platform and chock the tractor wheels and then shut down the tractor and operate all valves to relieve any pressure in the cylinder lines.

I'd remove any clamps and blow air around the fittings or generally clean the areas. Routings are sometimes important and wire can be strung along the same route to ensure the new hose takes the same route. I wouldn't assume the old hose is the correct length unless it's a factory part. Hoses should be installed away from sources of heat or mechanical damage. They should not be taunt or looped, have sharp bends or twists. Excessive loops and bends can be corrected by a shorter hose or angle fittings.

I'd remove the hose starting at my loader valve end and place wrenches on each of the two hex fittings so the hose won't twist when loosening. I'd then place a drain pan under the manifold and remove the hose using a single wrench. If the old fittings are reused, I'd thoroughly clean the threads--particularly if liquid or tape sealants were used.

Installing is simply reversing the procedure. For new fittings, I'd clean and put a bit of oil on the threads and tighten to torque values. I'd probably use liquid sealant for old fittings. For either tape or liquid, only the upper 1/3rd of threads are covered to avoid exposing sealant to the oil flow. An installed hose should not be twisted. There are formal torque values for most fitting types but few persons would actually use a torque wrench but it is important to avoid over-tightening.

The most important thing about cleaning is to remove loose material in the area before taking things apart. After disassembly, I've used plastic, baggies or clean rags over exposed ports and fittings. After reassembly air in the hoses should just be pushed through to the sump where it will bubble out of the oil before returning to the pump. Almost all compact tractor hydraulic pumps are self-priming. After the new hose is installed, it's just a matter of starting the tractor and checking for leaks. The hoe or 3ph needs to be under a heavy load to check for high-pressure leaks, and as noted paper should be used rather than fingers.

I was looking at a 98 gt235 john deere lawn tractor with about 300 hours on it. It is real good shape, I was wondering what a fair price to pay for such a machine would be? He is asking $2000.

I have had a similar problem with the cars around here and believe me they don't have to sit for a week to attract squatters, over night will do. They like to take up residence in the air filter housings.

De-Con makes an enclosed unit that truly is a better mouse trap. Get a couple or three of them and bait them with peanut butter. Put some on the ground under the tractor or on top of the front tires and another on top of the engine or battery.

They simply cannot get past the the P/B and the traps can only be entered in one direction. I have never found one of these traps sprung that didn't have a mouse in it.

OK there was on time when all I got was a front leg, but that is ok too and not a bad record if you consider I have trapped several hundred mice. I have been looking for a rodent on crutches ever since.

And that is the point: all you can do is thin them out to the point where the become scarce.

A word of caution, check the traps daily because you will start catching them most every night. I have three traps set in the garage and catch at least one critter each night.

Peters, no joking this time. I know a lady who raises Arabians that I worked with at Ft. Campbell. Her business is called Iron Forge Arabian Horses I think. I have to go in to work tomorrow to pick up some meds and I will ask her about it if she is still working there. Been some layoffs since the deployment of the 101st.<br>

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all of the advice. I took your advice and went with the 60" RMM. Thanks! It has been raining here with tornado winds and such so no grass cutting for me yet. But I did get the chance to use the box blade to grade my driveway. Boy does the 4 wheel drive work good on a grade. 42" box full of gravel going up a grade and did not spin a tire. I believe that I will fall in love with this machine the longert I get to use it. Thanks to everyones help on my purchase!!

Thanks for the info. I have definately ruled out the 2210 and priced both the 4110 and 4115. At this time am leaning towards the 4110. One of the dealers also suggested that I keep the 445 for mowing and get something along the lines of a 790 for all else. I am going to give both options serious thought.

Are there other weights to purchase different from the ballast box? I've seen large disc types that hook to the 3 point hitch where they could be added and subtracted according to the weight at the front of the tractor. Thanks,web.

Hey chief, I have been using a chain harrow with the teeth pointed up. It does a great job, especially since I don't have a rake, at least the three point variety.

Thanks for the information. I will check the e-switches this week-end and ascertain if they are in the correct position for the work I am doing. I did have it hauled to the dealer today to change the tires from R4's to turf and told them of the problem. And, that I had an indicator light was flashing three short and one long. They fed me some BS and said the problem is fixed, we shall see. And special thanks to you Chief, I hope I enjoy the 4410 as much as you seem to enjoy yours.

I cut grass for a living with a walker 42inch ghs both commercial and residential. The walker corporation sends out a quarterly magazine. In september they sent each commercial walker owner survey to determine how people charge and how much. In december the servey said" the average price in the usa is 39 per hour overall for all equipment in the use of triming blowing cutting etc. The highest price was 100 the lowest was 25 Here in southern maine my average is 30.00

I'd like to get rid of the lawn tires on my MF1010 and put on some real ag tires. Anyone know what the size of these would be, and who handles the rims? At least I think I have to change out the rims too....

I'm new at compact tractors, I had a Farmall B for many years and used it for bush-hogging, nothing else. Now I want to more....

The sections I planted have not exactly taken over the other areas of grass. If anything the centipee has invaded the area that I placed the Zoysia.
The variety of Zoysia sod I can get locally is a lot nicer than the plugs I bought.
