I don't know when manufacturers started putting safety inter-locks everywhere. There's a chance that some were added as production changes to existing models so some tractors would have them and some wouldn't.<br>

My Ford just has the traditional TX and PTO interlocks. My riding mower does have the seat thing, but it only prevents starting unless somebody is in the seat. I guess I could see that version on a tractor but I can't imagine having a tractor where the engine killed every time I hopped off the tractor to attend to an implement I'm mounting, and it sure would make use a backhoe difficult. <br>

Such a design probably would sell a lot of starters though if people didn't disconnect the switch. Safety features that are so safe that people disconnect them out of aggravation aren't really very safe I guess.<br>

Bill: That looks like a clever solution. It'll be interesting to see how long it holds up.

I don't know if there'll a tendency for the plastic to fatigue and break after some use. Even if it does, just replacing the barrel doesn't seem like too bad a solution. If I had a choice, I probably would have used something with a wider flange so the lag-screws would be further apart.

Good hydraulic fittings seal without a lot of tightening. Nothing wrong with a bit of tightening but there just has to be enough pressure to deform the threads. Pressure beyond that doesn't seal them any better and often tightening a fitting doesn't help a leak.

Tape or liquid sealer on the upper thread portions can help seal somewhat buggered up fittings. Taking things completely apart and cleaning them helps too, especially if sealant has been used previously. I use liquid sealant myself but new fittings probably would be a better solution. In using tape or liquid, it's important to not cover threads that will extend into the oil stream when the fittings are tightened. Blobs of sealant or tape can end up in valve orifices.

I don't know if the hoe angle problem is the same as I have mounting my forklift. The carriage folds flat when it isn't mounted and it's too heavy for one person to raise to a vertical so the top-link pin can be made. The forklift sits on blocks when not mounted. My solution is to make the lower-link pins and use the 3ph to raise one end so the blocks can be removed and then sit that end on the ground. I then put top-link pins through clevis loops on the tractor and forks top-link mounts and use a come-along to raise the carriage. The come-along hooks go into the clevis loops. I also use safety chain around the lower ROPS and grab hooks that I progressively shorten to catch the carriage if the come-along ratchet plays tricks on me.

I work for a well known search engine and beleive me, I know the argument of: "It ought to be free." vs. "We need to make money." I am sure that there will be some passionate posts on this and that only a small % of the overall passion will even make it to the point of being posted.

Nothing is free and I think we're darn lucky to have this resource at all.

If you want to see passion on the free vs. paid, look at the search industry. Between the years 2000 and 2002, lunch rooms of search companies from California to Massachusetts were alive with this debate and believe me, they were not always civilized. Today there isn't a search engine around that doesn't get $ out of its users one way or another. Plenty of eBlood was spilled along the way and now there are only a handful of engines left. Most couldn't figure out how to make a profit by offering a free service and the majority are now just redirects to other engines or porn sites! Those that survived without making a profit are getting bought by VERY commercial organizations. The few pure search survivors have admitted that ads or subscriptions are the only way to accomplish what we are all in business to do. In web search subscriptions don't work 'cause there are enough good search engines that if one charges a subscription people will go elsewhere. All engines now rely on ads and lisence fees for revenue.

It is very very tough to set up an ad revenue program that pays the bills. It requires resources, serious market knowledge and leverage. For a board like this, thoses assets are not easy to come by. Subscriptions help and I, for one, value the site. Don't get me wrong, I'll still visit the other site and I'll take my long time member status here thank you very much, but the next time my wallet is out because I recognize how much I value NPR, maybe I'll take a minute to recognize the value of TP.com as well.

Safety is always a good thing. I remember hanging off the side of a silo with just a few strands of baler twine for a rope. Would I do it today? I remember a lot of don't touch that, don't do that...

Seeing 1 armed farmers, 1 eyed mechanics, bent up equipment, recently a man killed from a windshield washer fluid barrel touched by a tourch and many other graffic stories showing results of accidents.

Maybe Dennis can make up a accident photo page, but then maybe gore gallery . com would want in...

Experience based on good sound practices and advice coupled with some good learning experiences by making some mistakes coupled with some luck will add some good genes to the gene pool tonight.

And remembering it can happen to me. Consider the risks and proceed accordingly based on experience.

5-1-03 Have just talked with the factory rep. and also engineering rep. the only fix they have is to slot the fan guard and split the difference in space from right to left side. Of course this does not fix the main problem it just give more space to the fan blade that was hitting the side of the guard. The stops are still pushing the radiator into the fan it just takes a little more movement for it to hit. As of 5-1-03 they do not have a fix for this and they do not expect one soon. They do agree that it is not right, that is a step foward. Plus they did say that my tractor is not the only one with this problem. They have taken pictures of the damage to my second fan blade and housing. As a help to show what the problem is. If you have any of this damage I would advise you take dated pictures of the parts and their damage before they replace them. In case your waranty runs out, as to have proof of the existing problem.

I currently have a 300w power supply powering Malibu landscape lighting. But saw the post concerning the neon string lights and thought that would be something neat. Were you talking about something similar to the lights that are offered for swimming pools now. They have a device that mounts in the pool house and a rope type light is connected to them.

Your $12,200 price sounds very good. I paid $12,700 for the 2210, loader and 54" deck. The 62" was another $300 but I have too much landscaping to use the larger deck.

I did not get my tractor today. The weather was bad so we agreed that tomorrow would be better. I would like to know if anyone can give me some advice on what to expect upon delivery in the way of manuals and support pieces and such. Equipment coming to tomorrow includes Kubota B7500 HST, FEL, RMM Landpride Finish, and Box Blade. Any tips would be appreciated to make sure I get what I need.

If you drag an old bedspring around you may want to put on a helmet first. I dragged one behind my riding mower several years ago and it did a good job but I am serious about wearing a heavy jacket and helmet. The thing will propel sizeable rocks at ya. I found a section of chain link fence with a couple of t-posts weaved in works better and is safer. Glenn

Before I decided to stay smaller and go w/ the 2210, I got a quote on the 4115. My dealer had one of the best prices I've seen on a 2210, so I would think what they quoted me would be pretty good. For a 60" MMM and 410 loader, they quoted me $16,700 before tax. I think the 410 loader was $2300 or so. Talking that off, I was quoted at $14,300. From what I've seen, the prices of implements is usually close. The differences come in the tractor price.
