Question:
When was the last time that the Hydraulic Filter was changed? When was the last time that the Hydraulic Fluid was changed? At what engine RPM are you trying to raise the orange? If RPM's are too low, insufficient hydraulic flow will result and not allow the tractor to lift,ie: the pump is not turning fast enough to deliver an output sufficient to satisfy its demand. If inadequate fluid, you may have a partially plugged line. If the filter is dirty, the pump will ultimately be "starved" from hydraulic oil and cavitate, spin free basically without the ability to displace output to the hydraulic circuit, and ultimately not be able to work under load. Not only is this detrimental for the pump, as it is running dry, however, if the filter bursts, the debris from the filter will continue downstream throughout the tractor's hydraulic circuit.

Nine times out of ten, the culprit is not something deeply involved, as much as something quite elementary, that we simply forget about.

Although relief valves do occasionally malfunction, they usually require a pressure gage for proper readjustment for proper working pressures within the system.

It seems rather strange that this valve needs any sort of adjustment with only 400 hrs on it. That is pretty low run time for a relief to malfunction.

If this valve, the FEL relief valve,or any other, is adjusted, therein lies a potential for failure of another component of the system if not properly done, not to forget potential for excessive hydraulic pressure build up that could result in severe injury.

If you have had the hydraulic fluid and filter changed, which is recommended every 100 hours of run time, are we sure that the proper amount of fluid was installed? You must run the tractor for a period of time, usually about a half hour, and if equipped with FEL, cycle the FEL to circulate out any and all air pockets to prevent a "bubble" within the hrdraulic system. Then recheck fluid level and add more if necessary.

I guess another way of looking at it would be that the day you bring a new tractor home you should take a picture of it because that is as good as it is ever going to look.

My BX was a little scuffed up when I took delivery so I asked for a can of paint to touch up the problem spots, but I never got around to doing it. I just put it to work.

The reality is that it has a lot more boo-boo's on it now at 120 hours, especially after moving many tons of gravel and rocks.

I would at least make the dealer explain why he can't deliver a prettier machine and see what he offers to do.

The plates are 13 inches or so across and fit snugly in the wheel recess. I was looking at the photos of your tractor and your wheels are much larger than mine.<br>

Looks like the mounting holes for the wheel weights (the square ones) are more than 13 inches across. <br>

If you find some big enough steel plates that won't flop around too much on your larger wheels, I will take some pics of the spindle and mounting hardware I fabricated and send them to you.

I assume you're not getting a hydro since the 4510 isn't available with one. Without knowing what you are intending on doing, it's hard to comment. If you have a 7' medium duty brush hog, then yes. If you have a 5' finish mower, then I doubt it. My personal preference would be to get the 4610 with the hydro. But that's my preference for my property and uses.

In a now ancient discussion in the archives, Roger Loving mentioned making a roller from an old gas hot-water tank. These tanks have a center hole for the burner chimney that he used for an axle. He filled his with concrete, but one might hold water as well. I imagine he removed the tank cover and insulation. I don't know if bearings, bushings or what was used between the tank and axle.

It sort of sounds like the switch under the seat problem discussed here several times but I don't know if that problem affects 870's.

A voltage check isn't bad, but relay circuits are often tested on the basis of current, although who know where specs could be found. A relay with a poor ground in operation might be weak but a voltage test to ground might read high rather than low. It would have low current and therefore low hold-in power. A poor connection on the hot side may result in low voltage and also low current and low hold-in power. I don't know if the fuel solenoid would have two windings like a starter solenoid or not.

By off brand I mean any machine that is not a common name to most of the guys buying/looking. I think as more of the less familiar names become more common thier parts, tech support and dealer promimity will improve. As these improve we'll see more of them. In addition, competitition uaually improves everything. There's nothing wrong with saving $$ if the realiability (from the machine through the dealer) is there.

Peters comment sound like a good start for things to check. Most tractors have quite a few more things between the DIFF and the wheels than cars and I suppose something in the drive line is possible. I'm not sure it'd be very likely a moisture problem unless there was enough water for the oil to be milky. Water can get into the oil through bad seals in the shifters and that can affect tractors that are stored outside. Checking things in the drive line starts becoming a major tear-down.

I have a vague recollection that I've heard of this problem before and it has to do with wet clutches. I think there was some discussion and maybe here, but I'm not sure which JD models were involved. I don't recall if there were any resolutions. There may have been something about oil viscosity and I seem to recall something unusual about the angle the tractor was on. Hope I'm not starting a wild goose chase here but I'm pretty sure something like this was discussed.

Art, yes I have checked prices. Even called Carver, they were more $ when you including shipping. I have decided to go for the B2910, LA402, loaded R4's and folding ROP. The price is $16,990 purchased from a dealed in North East PA. It seem that price reflects approximately 18% of of list.

Mark You did an excellent job of typing slowly. Had to chuckle about shrinking vertically... I do that to the wifes pic's shrink vertically ;-)!!! It keeps me in trouble...

I guess I'll have to shoot a couple for this project and see if pixeles reduced in camera is different than software reduction. I usually carry extra flash cards so I can shot on highest quality. I never know when that shot of something special will come.

I've been resizing and reducing pixels per sq inch with software. It seems the only way. Camera is also only changing pixels per sq inch.

Even the correct link is two inches too long. It is a problem Kubota needs to fix.

I have not found a correct top link anywhere for the BX series and I finally paid a welding shop to shorten and re-weld mine.

I had the same problem with my 4700. Had the unit checked over by the dealer w/o finding anything wrong. They oiled all the linkages, etc. Haven't had the problem again. But i'm still perplexed by the grabbing, because i recall checking everything when it happened -- brakes, tranny, etc, and nothing seemed to be sticking.

Well it sounds like the Kubota B7800hsd is the way to go for me. With the comments, thinking it through, and getting the little misses to agree; I don't see where I would be disappointed now or down the road with this model. Starting Monday I am going to turn my attention to calling around and seeing how comparable prices are in this neck of the woods.
