What a Novel Idea! My input would be for us (including

at www.Turobdieselregister.com. This Bi-monthy publication is the result
of a few good guys with a common interest. In their case Turbo Diesel Pick-ups.
In our case, Tractors. Mr "Jplan.com" also mentioned how this site costs him money for
all of us to enjoy. This would be one way for everyone to benefit, while assisting
him financially to keep this site going and up to date. Speaking of that.. I think we all
owe a big thanks to the guy who maintains this Site!.!.!.!.!.

I agree with Jacks advise for the most part. IMHO the main advantage to Liquid in the<br>tires is

alter the amount,effects, placement of the weight. Cast Weights can't spring a leak like Liquid in your tires can.
Causing rusted rims, ruined grass, Polluted streams that your animals drink from (you mentioned its a pasture) and lastly they are not a mess to deal with, only Heavy!
Down side=$. I would also suspect that the reason most farmers use Liquid is that they have
2-3 or more tractors. You don't want to switch weights everyday, nor could they afford Cast weights for
every single tractor. Your case of 1 compact tractor, I would opt for the Cast.
R4 Ind tires will provide better floatation,wear,Durability than the Ag R1s. I would prefer the R4s because I feel
they are a very good compromise for most traction conditions. You didn't mention how steep these hills are, but Steep Hills & Compromises should not be used in the same sentence.
If the angle of your "hills" are something your pick-up could handle (go R4s), Otherwise my I recommend the R1s.
Better yet, have your dealer bring a demo model to your place. If he won't, find a new dealer.
You are spending ALOT of money, the least he can do is allow even a brief demo. "> TIRES AND WEIGHT NEED HELP

Can't help with the PTO engagement problem, but I can tell you that the rotary cutter<br>I used to use on the farm had What I called free floating blades. Meaning that you had the <br>middle rotating piece that looks like a T. and each leg of the T had a free floating blade <br>attatched. Rotational force would keep the blades in the extended position.<br>If you stopped the mower quickly they would, they would wip around and bang against something. I can't imagine<br>this is a good thing, but it never seemed to do any damage. I tried to keep it from happening. I think this <br>design was to allow a pivot point if you hit a rock or stump, instead of breaking something:)

I've located a Kubota 1550 hydro 4wd urf tires and a loader. It has 1500 hours, and appears to have been parked outside all it's life. The seller is asking $9,900. Is it a good price? Any and all comments, via this board, or direct would be appreciated. <br>I posted this msg before but didn't get much response, so I'm still in the dark.<br>

One of my tractors is a JD4400 with the Syncreverser and It works great, The only problem I had with the tractor is when delivered the 4WD light on the dash was not working and the dealer came out the next day and made an adjustment to the sensor and it works great. I run a small buisness with mine and its used everyday. I to like the Gear tranc and a cluch, I had a JD955 and didn't like it as much as I like a cluch, I find I have more control and if you have to do any rough terrain work IE plowing/disking its hard to maintain a steady even speed, yes there is a cruise control but if I have to use that I may as well use the Syncreverser. My dealer let me use both a Hydro and a Syncreverser for a week each on the job and I gave them both a good workout and the syncreverser won hands down for me, I did like the Hydro with a loader as it was a little faster but that caused me to bang into things. I noticed very little difference between pushing a hydro pedal all the time and useing the cluch as far a leg and foot fatigue go. I think a Hydro may be a little better for a weekend warrior in the long run as it is easyer for a unskilled operator to operate. Tom

Disengage PTO slowly and you can feel a neutral then cont. to disengage . You con feel the brake engage. also when hooking up PTO put inneutral to rotate shaft to line up.<br>

I do have a little history on the tractor. IT cam from a local private golf course. I purchased another Jacobsson riding mower from them last year. I think they are pretty good on maintenance, as a particular operator is ussually assigned to each piece of equipment and he is responsible for the maintenance. However a piece like this might be used by several people.<br>Thanks for the info.<br>

How many hours are too many when buying a used tractor? I realize this is an open ended question but how about some guidelines. Assuming that a seller had no maintenance records to prove any claims, what number of hours would be too risky. Assume also that a thorough inspection of oil, coolant and running operation turned up no suspicious clues. As an example, 100K miles on a car that is well maintained may not be excessive but on one with no history would be very questionable. I'm searching for some pearls of wisdom from all you experts out there.

Bob<br>I went to a local auto parts store to get a filter for my L2350. they were able to look it up in a book and got a Fram filter for me. I got to thinking about it and went to the Kubota dealer and got a Kubota filter. The Kubota was about 5 bucks compared to about 3 for the Fram. Since this was the first oil change for my tractor and it still has warranty, I got to thinking that if some think happened to the engine Kubota might view the filter as the reason and not honor the warranty. With a tractor as expensive as an L35, I believe I'd get the Kubota brand filter and oil. Just my opinion, everyone has one.

dont know about the pice but the 1920 new holland is a workhorse i have a 98 model with 500 hrs and the tractor is unstoppable. i have an excellent dealer support on equipment and parts, but havent needed many yet. many good tractors out there but the 1920 is hard to beat. just my 2 cents

Just a comment from the Mid-South, I was priced an L4310 in 2 wheel driveand FST trans today for 13,500. This was the dealers first out of the book price, so I'm thinking he might go a little lower. Also was priced an L3010 in 2wd and FST for 11,700 first price. I was interested in the L3010 until the dealer priced the L4310. Now I'm not sure which one to get, if either. The 3415 NH also is appealing to me. I plan to use my tractor for some row crop applications, the Kubota's don't widen to two row and the NH does.<br>Just some ramblings.

Ford 1210. Used to cut 2 1/2 acres of grass. Approx. 50 hours per year. Tractor looks like new, but new head is now costing me $1700.00. To say the least I'm extremely disappointed. According to the machine shop who gave me the second oppinion on the head (2 crack at the injection ports) it's a fairly common occurance. Also Ford would not sell me the cylinder head without the valves installed. They also seem uninterested in talking to me abou the matter. I called the zone office and sent them e-mail to no avial.

I took a small pump-up sprayer, took the sprayer end off(leave the valve intact). Went to the local auto parts house and got a tire filling attachment and some hose to connect to the valve. Put your antifreexe in the sprayer pump it up, connect the hose to the tire valve (remove the schrader (sp?) valve)and let it rip.

John, just in case you are not aware your local JD dealer will see you a ROPS at dealer cost to fit your 650. It's an incentive to get more of them installed for safer tractors. I just bought and installed a ROPS on my '81 750 last month. Turns out the 650 and 750 use the exact same ROPS. It came will all the grade 11.9 mounting hardware and can be put on by one person. I did it myself, with a winch and some elbow grease to get it in place. Oh yeah, I paid $250 for my ROPS. Good luck....<br>Keith

4300 2wd with collar shift had to go to the shop one time for an adjustment. Works fine now at 250 hrs. I think some people just aren't giving themselves time to learn the new machines. Dealers should really explain the operation, especially to first time buyers.

I posted this on the Machinery Forum a while back but the subject always seems to come up. This is a study that somebody with a lot of time on their hands did on a bunch of common oil filters. I can't testify to the quality of the science, but I don't have any more orange filters on my engines after some basic comparisons of my own.
