When it comes to compact tractors, just about everything manufactured in recent memory is deisel. Diesels generally produce more torque at lower RPMs (when compared to gas engines). For this reason, they are more suitable for use in tractors. Older gas tractors are easy to work on. Nothing exotic. From what you have described, an old Ford 8N or 9N should do you just fine. If you buy it right you can use it for years and make money when you sell it.

Steve:<br>I had to make the same choice. I have a NH TC21D with turf tires, I had some real concerns about the other tires after seeing what just driving over the lawn with a backhoe can do. I am not sure what to do for the winter, the cheap route would be chains. The other options is a second set of wheels and some Ag tires. I would like to here from someone who has used chains on turf tires, Even with chains the turf tires seem to wide to provide much traction in snow.<br>Good luck

Their is two ways to look at this. In tractor lines, there are usually two plus <br>machines to choose from i.e MF1240 to 1260, JD 4200 to 4400, Kubota L3010 to 3710, NH TC25D to TC33D <br>all in a pacticular basic package. I feel from experience, the best way to go would be either the lowest cost <br>unit in a machine range or the most expensive. If you go in between you will wish you went with the less expensive<br>one OR the more expensive one. I would suggest the TC33D, witch is an excellent unit due to the increase in<br>engine size.

I solved my problems with a Quick Hitch (Speeco $149.5O on sale). I know some guys say its junk, but I have had no problems and it works like a dream attaching a rotary cutter. I had to modify the top link on my mower slightly and machine down the flanges on lower links adapters that came with the hitch. It also works with a dirt scoop. It may be junk, but it cured my 3pt nighmares for a very modest price.

You could always go with the new holland 1920 33 HP which should cost about 15,000 it can mow the lawn and do the work all but the hay bailing its not a hydro but it has the sync shifting. If you want to make hay go with the 2120 it may be just what you need to do a little of both. Im getting the 1920 as soon as I can afford one....

What did you guys pay for the 650? I saw one today that is a bare tractor<br>with turfs and PS but the guy wasn't sure what price to ask. The hours are<br>right at 1000 and I would say that the cosmetic condition is good. No <br>mechanical problems.

I gotta agree with Sid Tufline is a fine blade.<br>I have had one for 4 years and would not trade it <br>for any other. At 408# the TBO66 is great for <br>most jobs. I have used mine for alot of things <br>that I am ashamed to admit I did.

More likely your dealer WON'T tell you how because it's a liability issue for him and a safety issue for you. That button is there for a reason.<br>Still, I understand the convenience of mowing in reverse, and if you're determined, just replace the button with a toggle switch. Then you can trade safety for convenience whenever you wish. Two minutes work with a continuity checker will tell you whether you need NO or NC contacts.

I am about to purchase a compact and have been real interested in the New Holland tc25d. I have seen and had the chance to drive several comparable models by other companies such as Massey Ferguson, Kubota,John Deer,Cub Cadet,and Kioti. By far the N.H. is the most comfortable to drive and its controls are easy to use and get at. I called a dealer in central Ohio and told him i was looking for a tc25d which comes with hydro. trans.,front end loader, 60

I believe that Deere has a fix for the hydro problem. I just took delivery on a 4300 and the dealer informed me that they would make this modification prior to delivery but found that mine was done at the factory. I would contact my dealer to have him do the modification.

A good rule of thumb is to get an impliment that is wider than your tractor.<br>Imagine trying to get dirt out of a corner with a blade narrower than your back <br>wheels and then withe a blade wider than your wheels. Or cutting grass against <br>the house with a narrow finish mower or a wide mower. You will be happier with <br>the wider impliments.
