Part of what (maybe all) you are experiencing is inherent in the design of the J.D. design of the Hydro trans. That is why I bought a Kubota. I will try to go back in time to one of my Agricultural Engineering Courses and try to explain why, but it has been a few years and I probably have foggotten a lot.<br>A hydro transmision work by having a hydrolic pump which drives a hydrolic motor with a variable plate in it that little hydraulic piston push against. If you angle this plate in one direction things move in one direction if you angle it in the opposite direction thing move in the opposite direction. If you angle it a little things move slow, if you angle it a lot things move faster. That is how you change the direction and speed of the tractor. In the J.D. and most hydros the linkage between the foot pedal and the plate is mechanical. As you need more power the pistons push against the plate harder this mean that you must push the pedal harder. This is not a problem with smaller tractors because of the mechanical advantage that the pedal has, but in the larger more powerful tractors it becomes more pronounced. If the linkage is not adjusted correctly it just make the problem worse.<br>Kubota solved this problem by puting in an electric servo to do the pushing so that the force is not tranmitted back to the pedal. <br>I think the J.D. trans is still a very strong dependable design but some pedal pressure will be a fact of life for you. <br>Please forgive any error that years out of college have brought about. I truelly wanted a J.D. but because of the trans and some other factors I went with Orange.

<br>I think that would be false econonmy. Diesel fuel has additives both for lubricating the valves & injector pump. Cheap fuel can cost alot in repairs. You don't want to skimp on quality fuels & oils on a diesel, because you'll eventually pay for them. I just had an injector pump & 6 injectors rebuilt for a tractor. The bill was $1900.

I bought an '81 JD 750 last February, here in SC. The tractor was in reasonably good condition with 977 hours on. Mine is 2wd only, and does not have a loader on it. I got the tractor, a four foot disc harrow, and some ballast weights for all of $4500 dollars. Good deal, no??<br>Keith

I can't help but ask, why are people afraid of plastic? I would think that Manuf's<br>decided to use plastic because of how long it lasts,I can't imagine they were trying to save weight!<br>If your afraid of something that will last 250-500 years in a landfill, how can you<br>be considering Metal? Something that probably won't last the life of the tractor.<br>Scratches on paint tend to change color to a nice shade of RUST. Plastic on the other hand exposes<br>the exact same color. Something to remember,like anything else, plastics have come a long way from<br>when they were introduced. Thanks to NASA, plastics are almost impervious to everything. Early Generations became weak<br>from extensive sun exposure, and gas ate through them. How many gas cans are now made out<br>of plastic, as well as car/truck dashes. Not just to make them ligher, my 9 year<br>old car with a plastic dash still looks like new. Only problem, my metal fenders are starting to show<br>age from all the Road salt PA uses. <br>

TAFE stands for Tractor and Farm Equipment Corporation. They are based in India,<br>there is a local dealer here in Meridian, MS. The company, according to my dealer,<br>manufactered these machines for Massey for years. Parts availability seems to be <br>excellent. As a matter of fact he says TAFE still makes Massey parts because <br>the TAFE parts he gets come in Massey packaging. He also says alot of parts are<br>interchangeable with massay. The only question he could not answer was the one about<br>resale value. He has been selling them since 1996 and claims to have not seen a <br>used one yet. You guys are right about keeping an open mind when shopping for tractors. However, there is at least one concern when buying a Massey: Resale and product support. Are Massey parts higher than Deere parts or Kubota parts? Labor Rates? Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying this is the case for Massey, I just think some people dont look far enough ahead when buying a tractor!
