My guess is the package would be closer to 35K and I agree on delivery time. It seems like it is running around 14 weeks. I wonder if anyone can comment on recent experience with delivery.

The Bush Hog website lists their smallest flail mower at 974 lbs., and over 6 ft.,<br>so if you've found a 5 ft model, it must be an earlier model. My Gearmore flail is<br>5 ft & weighs about 650 lbs. The Gearmore spec say 17 PTO HP is the minimum. I have <br>16 at the PTO and it works fine, but has slowed a couple of times in very heavy weeds. <br>The Bush Hog website lists their 5 ft rotary mower at 450 lbs., and recommends 25 to<br>30 HP at the PTO. Your tractor seems small given these specs, but perhaps it might <br>still be possible. Hopefully someone else can post their experience using larger <br>implement with a smaller tractor. Tom has hit it right on the head. You are talking about a serious farm here!<br>Lucky you! <br>I think that you will be best served with a regular Ag tractor. The compacts can<br>be described as a lightweight tractor with lots of horsepower. You need the same<br>horsepower, but in a heavier package. IMHO, you should be looking at the JD 5000<br>series tractors rather than the 4000. The price and size is not that different.<br>But the 5000s are heavier duty machines. <br> A plus side is that a lot of the things that are extras on the 4000 series<br>are standard on the 5000s. And remember that this tractor will last you for a<br>long time. It is not inconceivable that you will own the tractor for as long as<br>you own the farm.<br> Not that you can't do it all with something like a JD4600.....but it will<br>take a lot longer on the smaller machine. You are going to get to sit on the<br>tractor a lot. <br> Roger L<br>

One of the better tractors in that size and years. It is actually a Yanmar <br>built to some JD specs....but without Yanmar's powershift. I think that Yanmar<br>called it the 220D? Anyone know? All in all - a dandy tractor.<br>I am not aware of any problems specific to the model. Just check the usual<br>things And pay special attention that the front wheel bearings are tight and <br>the wheel rotation feels good. <br> My own opinion is that the price is about 20% high.....but what the heck...<br>you could also spend the rest of your life looking for a good tractor. The borrow pits flanking my driveway are rocky and full of brushy weeds. The slopes are too steep to sidehill safely. What's the appropriate implement for mowing or beating down the weeds? I was thinking perhaps a sickle bar, but it looks too fragile to use around all those rocks. I have a kubota 2100. Thanks for any suggestions. <br>This is a very helpful message board!<br>Steve

All you guys bragging about your snow ought to spend some time in the Buffalo NY area. A foot of snow means that leaving for work is 15 more minutes figured in driving time. This past winter it snowed every day for 10 days about a foot each day. Got to a point that we had no place to put it so a payloader with a tbhree yard bucket was used twice. Love to get a foot or so ,I'll use my little cub cadet garden tractor instead of my JD 870. A little history, in 1977 during the blizzard I got over twelve feet of snow in my driveway. The blizzard of 1985 was easy by comparison, only 6-7 feet.

Go with a 970 if you can still find one. You will be happy you did in the long haul. It beats the 955 in every dept. But I would stay away from it if you do alot of finish mowing. Weight--3045lbs. with 4wd.

I just took delivery of the 4400. I am located in Vermont, the dealer (Yandows sale and service), had this one on the lot. I played with it this afternoon and have made a mess that will take another day to fix. The unit seems to pretty rugged, I tore out about ten stumps and now have to find dirt to fill the holes. The backhoe comes off very easily about 5 minutes, though they did not seem to design the quick disconnect for the hydraulics very well. For some reason they stuck them under the hoe operating seat with no clearance to get your hand into to actually couple and decouple the fittings. Other than that the unit is running great.

Sorry guys, especially Casey. I want to apologize for my VERY stupid post on 5/19. I've been a forklift mechanic for 27 years and sometimes forget most people don't have the engine experiance that I do. A co-worker and his brother both have Honda's. They both use regular oil of no particular brand. One Honda has 250,000+ miles and the other has 280,000 miles. Neither engine has ever been opened. You are wasting your money with synthetics. The brand and model of the engine has more to do with how long it lasts than the type of oil. The rest of the parts on these cars are wearing and rusting out, so what would you gain if the engine lasted even longer? With 280,000 miles of oil changes just think how much extra money would be spent on synthetics. Synthetics may be better but who needs it?

<br>Just purchased 4200 JD collar shift and I am having same grinding problem dealer tells me that clutch has been adjusted fully from out side remedy has to be done by factory techs internally. I have always liked JD's for quality and dependability but for this kind of investment I think I should be able to use this machine not have it sit in the dealer's shop. I am very disillusioned at this point and am about to tell dealer and JD they own a 4200.

I've been looking at pricing on a Kubota L3010 4WD for a couple of weeks now. From what I have found, so far, I can buy a new Kubota from North Carolina, and have it shipped to California, cheaper that I can buy a rental return in California. I will not have to pay sales tax so that just about takes care of the shipping costs. California dealer tried to tell me warranty would be no good (bullshit). Why does the same tractor cost $2,000.00 more in California. I don't mind paying a little more but I hate to get ripped off.

I have a JD755 the loader comes off in way under 5 min's. It is the easiest attachment <br>to remove and to install. I lower the bucket until the front wheels are off the ground. <br>Push in on the black knobs on both sides of the loader which is done sitting in the seat.<br>and then pull them back towards you which should disengage toward the front of the tractor.<br>Then I lower the front of the tractor and I believe raising the bucket lowers the self supporting<br>stand. when the arms that connect right in front of your feet raise where the front wheels will <br>pass below them i quit operating the loader. turn off the tractor and move the <br>loader valve in all directions to releave the pressure. and hop off of the tractor for the first <br>time and disconnect the four quick disconnect lines by simply pushing in on the <br>outer collar. and you are finished. if you are still having problems and I should be able to copy <br>the manual and fax or mail you a copy. Once you do it once or twice it is a cynch. Remember when <br>trying to reconnect drive the tractor slowly into the loader all the way. turn off the tractor. <br>operate the valve in all directions (or the pressure will not let you connect the hoses). connect the <br>hoses. crank the tractor and lower the connecting arms till they fit into the cradle and it lifts the<br>front tires, then move the rods on both sides back to the locked position and you are done. let me know<br>if you have any questions. Suggestions for those who use a lot of fuel are adequately covered. <br>For those how only use a little the make pump kits to go on plastic fuel contaners. So you can still buy your fuel fresh in a 5 gallon jug and use the pump to fill the tank with no mess. They are just hand pumps but when your only putting in 5 gallons it should be fast enough. You will still have to get the can close though.

Your question cannot be answered because it there IS a difference. <br>John Deere holds the crown at this time. Possibly more on reputation than <br>on actual products, but their products are excellent too. How can anyone ever<br>overtake JD's lead in providing parts for all their products for 50-60 years?<br> This is an almost insurmountable record. TO compete with this, some other<br>manufacturer will have to be very creative. Just making a product as good or <br>even better won't do it.<br> Roger Loving
