There is a '79 Kubota L295DT for sale on the road near me. Can anyone provide some advice?<br>1.) Good tractor? Reliability?<br>2.) It's got 1300 hours - plenty left? Any major maintenance potentially looming<br>3.) Is it good in snow? One reason to sell the step up to the Mrs. is snow clearing capability<br>4.) Any issues spinning a 6 foot bush hog? The ehavy stuff is done, so its mostly cutting grass and goldenweed now<br>5.) Are winter starts hard or easy (Boston winters)<br>6.) What's a good price - comes with a big Kubota front end loader and a 7

7.) How well does the 4x2 Gearbox work? How about the "front wheel assist" 4wd - can the front wheels pull you out of a rut, or is it a minor assist.

I had the same basic problem with my Ford 1500. All I could do is open <br>the fittings one at a time. I applied pressure by applying air pressure<br>to the fuel cell while my son cranked the engine. As fuel surfaced and <br>bubbled over I reattached each fitting all the way to the injectors. <br>Took about 5 minutes total. I know that a Ford isn't a Longbut I hope the<br>same theory may spark some ideas. Feel free to e-mail me. Regards Paul

[NYSE:CSE - news] for $4.3 billion, creating a formidable new competitor to the industry leader John Deere Co.<br>The deal comes as sales in the big-ticket farm industry continue to slump because of depressed commodity prices for farmers. Analysts said the companies will combine complementary product lines and bolster each other's geographic reach.<br>``It is a good long-term strategic move for the companies, done at a time when they are both reeling from a weak farm economy,'' said Eli Lustgarten, managing director for Schroder and Co. in New York.<br>Under the agreement, Case shareholders would receive $55 a share in cash from New Holland, the companies said.<br>New Holland's parent company, Fiat, would retain a 71 percent controlling interest in the new venture.<br>The company, whose name hasn't yet been determined, will be based at Case's Racine, Wisc. headquarters.<br>``Any way you look at this, this deal makes sense,'' said Umberto Quadrino, chief executive officer of New Holland, which has big operations in England and Italy. ``We both needed to grow.''<br>Jean-Pierre Rosso, the Case chairman, will head the new company.<br>``We expect to realize $400 million to $500 million in cost savings within the next three to four years,'' he said. ``We think that maybe is just the start.''<br>Lisa Shalett, a senior research analyst with Sanford Bernstein in New York, praised the merger.<br>``The product lines are complementary,'' she said. ``If you are willing to look out two or three years, when they can benefit from cost-savings, financially, it is a great deal.''<br>The two companies had 1998 combined sales of $7.6 billion for farm equipment, just slightly more than John Deere, she said.<br>Case focuses on the larger horsepower tractors and combines for big farmers, while New Holland makes smaller tractors and hay and forage equipment.<br>New Holland has a strong foothold in Europe, while Case is well established in Latin America, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.<br>The $55 a share price is probably at the low end of fair value for Case, Shalett said. ``Fiat is getting a good deal.''<br>In 1998, Case earned $64 million, down sharply from $403 million a year earlier. Annual revenues were $6.15 billion in 1998, up from $5.8 billion a year earlier.<br>New Holland earned $559.2 million last year on $5.7 billion in revenues. In 1997, the company earned $477 million on $5.8 billion in revenues<br>Case employs 17,700 workers and operates through 4,900 independent dealers and distributors. New Holland has 6,100 dealers and employs 21,300 workers.<br>Dealers for both companies will continue selling one brand of machinery, Rosso said.<br>

I went with the Deere because I'm really not in a big rush. I admit I would like to have it earlier but such is life. I agree with you that the NH is an excellent machine and of course more available. The main thing that turned me down was the NH dealer told me to check the weight of both units, and that the NH is heavier. After checking I found that the 4300 was 400 lbs heavier. I did like the supersteer option and would have gone with that. I think the main swing item was the dealer, the Deere dealer wanted to deal. Good luck with your new unit, hope you have years of trouble free service.

I have seen this problem on low-hour tractors that do a lot of sitting. Often the cure is as simple as a couple shots of penetrating oil where the throttle shaft enters the injection pump, and working the shaft back & forth from low idle to the full throttle position, with the engine not running, of course. When the oil frees up the shaft, it will return as it is supposed to. Good luck.

I just got a quote on 3010, HST, front loader, AG tires, folding ROP for $17,500 (tax not included, but it does include delivery and setup and whatever BS charges they put on there). this was in Western PA. Hope that helps.<br>

the 2500 uses the exact same parts as a older jd 850. I just rebuilt mine<br>using all new jd parts for 600. mine performs like a new tractor I pull a <br>6 foot finish mower and a 5 foot tiller with no problems

<br>I own a Kioti 2552 4 wheel drive. It now has 200hrs and has been worked to haul logs, It's set up with forks. So far I;ve only had minor problems due mostly to abuse on my part. It's worked far harder than my ford 2120 and held up as good or better.

I had a similar situation. I ended up hiring a dozer to do the bigger jobs quicker and easier and not worry about break downs. Dozer parts are very expensive. The only thing more expensive are older dozer parts. I also have two 1950's era Oliver Super 55 two wheel drive tractors. Although I have been able to do some work with these, I had to put alot of labor into them, and again parts are very expensive. At that time, I had more time than money. Now I'm looking into a 25-30 hp compact 4wd. I will be able to get into more places and do more work, also I feel it will be safer in those akward situations. Another plus is that on some models (Kubota L2500) the warranty in 3 years parts and labor. Nothing to work on for three years, sounds good.

Check out the New Holland 1720 & 1920 they are available with live PTO.I have<br>the 1720,Fwd,loader, live PTO, loaded Ag's, and rear hyd.spool.It's seems to be<br>a much more substantial machine for the money than the boomer.Im from Canada<br>so as far as price goes and taxes and taxes and taxes go there is no sense even<br>mentioning a number. We are blessed , as others, with large snow falls so the <br>live PTO is essential for my 5 foot snoblower.Other chores include brush hogging<br>which again is made much easier with live PTO. You will most likly deal in your <br>automobiles a couple of times before you do a compact so think ahead and buy a <br>little more tractor now instead of regretting it later.
