I don't think I'd want to be a stationary object on logging roads here in Ontario. Then again, the situation probably wouldn't last too long. Peters' comment about using the wheel brakes brought to mind a trick I heard on another board--sort of a poor man's diff lock. Lock the brake on the wheel that's spinning and the power transferees to the other wheel. If the other wheel has traction, then you might get out of the way of a logging truck. Actually, the drivers I know are very skilled and don't drive like maniacs. Anytime there's that much weight on poor winding roads, there are going to be situations. Brakes also can help keep the tractor pointed towards �out of the mire� since there is often very little steering.

As you guessed, the detent position on the bucket control of the joystick does initiate a regenerative circuit on JD loaders. It is built into the Dual Selective Control Valve mounted on the tractor and operates just as you described.

I found a cross for the cub oil filters - no more 'looks like' guesswork.The stock mitsu oil filter is something like 30A40-00100AThat crosses to casite 240, or pennzoil PZ109, ac delco 1127 (warning, gm filters have larger diameter) and a fram number I forget.Still working on the tranny and hyd filters. I have a friend who is a dealer for baldwin, trying to get mitsu numbers, the only numbers are cub numbers which have no xref

It strikes me curious that some brands sell a lot and others don't. On the opening screen is information about a Kubota. Listed elsewhere are brand sites, JD, Ku..,Yanmar, even those Belarus.<br> I just bought a 7205 Cub Cadet and couldn't be happier. I looked at the comparable model JD and thought the front and rear axles looked flimsy compared to the Cub. I didn't look at comparable Kubotas so can't comment. <br> Why do you think Cub Cadets have modest sales, (or do they) when they are such a fine machine?

I sold one of these for a freind not to long ago. The ID tag said "komatsu - international made in Japan". It had a Nissan diesel. Very nice tractor, nice paint, new rear tires, new battery, 1380 hours and new (cheap) backblade. Sold for $6000.

I'm in New hampshire and purchased a TC35D last fall for my 200 acres, about 60 acres of which is hilly hay fields and paddocks. Also have a mile long dirt access road at an 11 degree grade that I maintain with this tractor.
So far I've got just under 200 hours of use with no problems whatsoever. In addition to the FEL, I'm operating an 8' Curtis plow in the winter, a Landpride 2572 rotary cutter, 7' grading blade and rake, and post hole digger. Surprising to me, it also ran my 25kw PTO generator at full load with no problems.
I was initially concerned that the 35 would not have adequate power, but it has performed exceptionally well - don't be concerned about the power difference compared to the 40. However, I would have purchased a TC40D had one been available last fall, simply because I prefer the 4 cyl. engine.

I just built on 2 acres of rough bumpy ground and a 6 foot back blade on my b1750 just would not smooth it out, I found a used 4' tiller and now the ground is smooth as silk. I tilled it shallow the first time , let it sit a couple of weeks and then tilled it again a bit deeper. Then graded the high and low spots,then dragged it.Now I wiil wait till fall ,till it shallow,drag it again, then rent a Brillion seeder.

I have just purchased a 25 acre farm, 12 tilled and 13 pasture. I am a first time tractor buyer. I was really impressed with the 25D and was quoted a price of 14, 500 with supersteer and no implements. Will this be enough tractor for mowing, tilling, etc. or do I need to look at something else? How does this price sound? I am in SW Ohio. Any help would be appreciated.

I just purchased an 1994 Kubota L3600 GST with a LA682 loader and BL4690 backhoe. My questions concerns both the operation of the GST and an issue with the bh. <br>When shifing between gears, there is a noticeable and uncomfortable delay before the selected gear is engaged properly. It is long enough for the tractor to slow down considerably. Since I have never used a GST before I have little to compare it to. I own an L2850 also, but that tractor has a shuttle shift and will engage as fast as you can clutch and move he gear selector. The L3600 does engage smothly - it just takes it time (2+ sec). I feel like I have little control during that time and I'd hate to be in a situation where I needed a specific gear quickly. I hope someone can shed some light on this. is this an adjustment issue or is something broken in the clutch dept?<br>As far as the backhoe. it seems that there must be some internal leak somewhere as the main boom will sink down and even allow the bucket to touch the ground after a period of say 6 hrs of non-use. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I leave the bh fully retracted and the bucket curled up when not in use. <br>Thanks.

Filters construction can come in many styles. Oil filters are normally cellulose with melamine resin impregnation. In terms of filtration these are one of the cheapest and are not as good as or efficient as the more modern depth filters like the spunbond water filters or other fabrics used in pleated filters.
Stainless filters are available and are used in applications were you need to clean the filter periodically. These are available with pore sizes as fine as the other filter media. These are the most expensive filters you can buy this side of the membranes for ultrafiltration.
Many automatic transmissions use only fine metal screens for filtration.
My question, with these fact in mind, is how fine are the screens? You may ave a better filter what is proposed as a by pass.

I swear I type 60 mistakes a minute. Where is the spell checker for us non typist and non spellers. You would think that someone with 9 year of post secondary education should have learned to spell. Unfortunately it is related to perception or the way we percieve words rather than some thing we can learn. Dyslectics of the world unite!!!
Enough ranting, as I said you can not loose if you are smart about it. Make sure you have costed all the use equipment before you sell off. Set the price a little high and come down to the value you want. Don't keep anything that you are not going to use in the future.

Yes Jeff, I remember the pics--pretty impressive. That's one of the reasons I won't give up my loader during the winter. Some places I just have to stack snow or push it back, and a loader seems the best way. I also have to use the loader for my drives until freeze-up, after which my blower takes over. If we get a heavy snow before freeze up, I can hold the blower up with the 3ph, but just taking my time and doing it with the loader seems better. I didn't mean that loaders don't work for snow removal, because I do use my loader. I just think that blades and blowers work better and take less time. Of course, ground speeds when using blowers are pretty slow. Blowers probably save time only if there's a need to push back plow berms several times during the winter. Blowers also don't work very well from the middle of a parking lot.

Kay: You're right. The lift arms on my Ford 1710 attach below the axles. I meant the lift cylinder arms, which attach above the axles, and I believe can apply the leverage I mentioned. As far as I know, pulling from a proper 3ph attachment is relatively safe, and quite a few 3ph attachments for trailer hitches etc. are available. However, I've heard repeated warnings about pulling from the lift arms alone, loader buckets etc. Without knowing what sort of device is being used, I figured that broadcasting a safety message loudly was a good idea. Safety things don't stick with me very well unless I understand how things work, which is why I got into a bit of 3ph geometry--at least as I understand it. Myself, I don't have a pull implement, so I have the top-plate off my drawbar. I usually keep a 1" clevis in the hole to run chain through so I'm never tempted to pull something from anywhere but the drawbar (which I believe is the safest place). For those who aren't familiar with chain and grab hooks, I'll add that 20' of 3/8" grade 70 chain with grab hooks on either end along with a cable choker does most of my pulling jobs.

I have a JD 1070 and I always leave it setup so it allows the "lateral" motion. For the most part, tools work better if they are a bit loose. I've found this to be the case particuilarly when using a field mower and box scraper. The only reason I can see to fix the motion would be for finish work wher you are trying to level off a cut.

Yep, saw one at a Logging Expo I went to this Spring. It does look like a pretty decent machine. The one I saw was 42 horse, MFWD, shuttle shift, loader and rear hydraulics, feller said it would run about $19K as equipped. The paint job was a little rough, but otherwise fit and finish looked good, welds looked good, and the Kubota engine is a tough customer. If I was in the market, I'd have to look hard at them. He was in the process of setting up a local dealership. It'll be interesting to see what kind of reputation they earn.
