I have approximately 4 acres of yard in Alabama which I mow with my Bush Hog RDTH72 finishing mower behind my JD 4300 hydro. My problem is that the yard isn't entirely level although it's not terrible by any means and it's very sandy soil. When the mower moves across an uneven section, it allows one of the four wheels to break contact with the ground and the wheel turns sideways on its caster. When the ground levels out again the soil is so soft that instead of the wheel turning on its caster it remains sideways and creates a large furrow. It has the solid rubber tires which are rather flat across the tread instead of the pneumatic tires which are more round (cross section wise). Does anyone have any ideas how to prevent this? Would the pneumatic tires have been a better choice? I don't think it's feasible to have my entire yard as flat as a pool table. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

what work are they not designed to do? this summer I have knocked over and piled up a building, dredged a stream, dug a fish pond, dug sewers, backfilled, cut away earthen banks, mowed fields and woods, tipped over a large shed, moved an engine/tranmission, hauled firewood, lifted shingles to a roof, rolled huge tree trunks into fires.....its almost like the ginsu knife of tractors.....

I jumped up and down at JD when they handed me this little teeny filter (BIGGER BETTER ugh-ugh). It seems that it is a side cover to the engine compartment problem. If you service the tractor with the loader installed the side cover tangs at the bottom will not disengage and let the cover off. Haven't tried it with loader on. But that was what was in the service bullentin.

Ken what are you asking? Has the rear end fallen out? Broke/won't go? Makes noise? Differential won't lock up? Or many other different possibilities.

The "3 hose" type of connection is common with Asain compacts, it is required in order for the system to maintain sufficient pressure & volume to the various parts of the system, i.e. loader & 3pth. The first line is hydraulic supply from the pump (ahaed of 3pth, by the way), second is a 'high-pressure return' line which supplies power to the rest of the system (including 3pth) the last hose is a traditional (low-pressure) return line to the reservoir. The hose you seem to be missing is the second one reffered to above, without you will not have any power to the 3pth or anything else in the system such as power steering if running off the same pump. This system is to the maximum power for the loader ahaed of anything else. Best of luck.

Waiting for my new TC35D FWD. Loader, backhoe, and Large ag tires. Quoted price: $21,381. Salesman told me that that NH changed the color of the blue paint [hue more towards purple than blue]. The loaders he has in stock do not match the paint on the tractor he has. He getting one that matches before delivering.

The owner's manual (now lost) for my 1710 gives standard ag and turf tire sets for the tractor. It also gives tire pressure/load tables. It is normal for front tires to have slightly more rolling circumference than the rears. For that reason, it's not good to operate in 4wd on hard surfaces--especially with heavy loads.

An owner's manual, or a dealer, should be able to identify the standard sets, and it should be an issue if a dealer installed a set that exceeded the recommended front/rear drive ratios.

In terms of tire pressures, if the front is pulling too much, then increasing the rear and reducing the front pressures will help. However, tire pressures sometimes need to be changed to meet different operating conditions--such as traction or load. If the tires are mismatched, juggling the tire pressures isn't a good permanent solution, because you might need to change the pressures for other reasons. Incidentally, the load/pressure for my front turf tires starts at 8#. Of course, you might not want to put much in a loader at those pressures. Max pressures are probably marked on the tires themselves.

I pull a 750 lb. disc with my Kubota L4310 GST. It has 22 inch discs and the rear gang can be folded over. In loamy ground it can be quite a load even in 4 WD. I have ag tires and am not ballasted out at max. I would think you could pull the monster disk you mention but I think it would be a load in soft ground and at any slope would probably provide excessive wheel spin.

My driveway is wide but not very long. It sounds like the B series snowblower is way overkill for me. Northern Tool's Fall/Winter 2000 master catalog has several three point Cat 1 blowers that would probably work fine for my needs should I decide to go that route. I have even considered a rear mount scraper blade for those hard to reach places (like in front of the garage).

The "quick connect" feature on the BX is a plus, but probably only if you have several implements that mount this way and exchange them frequently (e.g. snowblower, blade and sweeper).

For a B1700 my lawn size is really too small. I mow about 3/4 of an acre with several trees, shrubs, and other items my wife deems important for a proper looking yard.

The BIG issue with the B1700 is tire size and overall tractor weight. I have loaded turf tires which I like for the loader operation, but they beat up the lawn too much. Initially I bought the B1700 to move dirt, rocks, and wood which it has done VERY well. Also the turning radius is an issue. I am concerned that the BX (even without loaded tires) may present the same types of problems. My 500 pound "lawn tractor" obviously doesn't present this problem. Also the 50" deck and 16" turning radius works great EXCEPT for the slope areas and lack of traction issue.

I'm looking forward to meeting with the CTB member (see previous posts from Ken Johnson) who has already done what I'm investigating. His inputs should give me all the information I need to make a final decision as to whether I should purchase of a BX in place of my B1700.

It usually takes me about 10 minutes to install and about 5 minutes to drop the mid-mount mower deck on my 4100. It really helps to do this on concrete or some other level surface, since you really must roll the mower deck into place, due to the weight you can't do much lifting. Yes the R-4 tires are best all-around tires. I've had no problem at all with them on turf and they provide much more traction (and puncture resistence) than turf tires. Ag tires will sure enough tear up your grass. Only downside to R4 tires is that they ride rougher than other tires.

A tractor running a pto generator is perhaps the most fuel efficient and reliable way to have emergency portable power. I will explain my setup first.
I have a Ford 1720 with 23.5 pto hp running a generac PTO 25 generator 25000 watts with 50000 surge which is connected to my house with an auto transfer switch. My generator is mounted on forks purchased from Central tractor approx $45.00 this allows my generator to be mounted to my tractor and transported as any other attachment . I performed a fuel consumption test when I first put my systen togeather as follows. First I filled my fuel tank then I transfered the house load to the generator, I asked my wife to do all the laundry she could find and dry it in the dryer which was rated at 5000 watts plus the washer at approx 700 watts and misc items scch as lights and submersible pump 1/2 hp 500 to 700 watts total load = 6200 watts+/-. It takes approx 2 hp to generate 1000 watts so we have 2 x 6.2 = 12.4 pto hp. The test was 8 hours and 20 minutes long and the tractor consumed 5 gallons. Fuel consumption is calculated as follows 5 gallons divided by 8.3 hours = .6 gallons per hour. To determine BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption) you multiply .6 gallons x the weight of diesel fuel which is approx 7.08 lbs per gallon = 4.248 lbs per hour divided by hp 12.4 hp which = .34 lbs per hp hour (BSFC) Keep in mind that this test was not under laboratory controlled conditions so I would not put money on them but they are as close as I can get assuming the load. The advantage of my setup is fuel efficiency and the surge capability to start heavy loads and the fact that my Tractor is always serviced and ready to run. If there was a prolonged outage I could use that heating oil fron my furnace which is #2 oil. As I mentioned earlier my generator is a Generac pto 25 rated @ 25000 watts however due to my 23,5 pto hp 12000 watts is the max I can generate with a surge potental of approx 24000 watts. This allows my systen to start larger motors. My generator also has a frequency meter on it which allows me to set speed, I set the frequency at 62 HZ which allows for speed droop due to electrical loading.
Probably the most important consideration is that it can set indefinately and I do not have to worry about gasoline going bad and guming up the carburator.
Addressing another topic i would like to talk about transfer switches which are absolutely essential to ensure the safty of you, your house and equipment and the utility workers who would be out repairing the utility lines in the event of a power outage because thats when you,d be using it right. If you wired your generator to back feed power into your house and you didn't isolate it from the utility or you FORGOT to throw a breaker then you could charge downed lines that utility workers would assume to be dead and they could end up dead. It wouldn't take the utility long to find the source of power and pin the blame. Think about what would happen when the utility power came back on if you weren't disconnected. Kiss one generator good by and who knows what else.
