I have no problem with JD parts, but a. would like best filter available and PF Ultraguard Brand (if there was an adequate replacement) is what I prefer (see AC Delco web page and read often cited discussion of oil filters on web; b. I live 2 hrs drive from dealer, so aftermarket source is more convenient. I was originally caught off guard that a replacement/alternative to OEM would not be available. As far as I can tell, neither NAPA or CarQuest have substitute filters.
Why change after 6 hrs? a. precautionary to get metal dust and filings, etc., out of system. Such WAS visible in oil when I checked the dipstick! Finally, seemed prudent to change with no downside, except that I had to locate a filter.

Thank you gentlemen for your reply, but please re-read the question: pulling, not lifting, etc. I realize all of the top-end compacts can lift a 1500 lb. disc (perhaps with a little ballast). Art: see top of page, "Tufline" ad, they have two integral 6'4" discs at 1693 pounds (model HL91622) and 1925 pounds (model HL91624)in their brochure; (other sources: many, including any regular 1000 pound 6-foot disc with 500 pounds ballast!). As for the roto-tiller, some of my food plot fields have what we here in southern Idaho call "floaters", occasional rocks 4-20 inches diameter randomly scattered waiting to get ya. The other thing that floats is the pen across my checkbook paying for tiller parts. Discs work fine through floaters. (Other tiller downsides include limited width on only 37-40 PTO horsepower tractors, i.e. 50-60 inch tillers which, even at a too-fast 1 mph for heavy residue, would still take 16.5 hours to prep two 5-acre plots, even without turning time factored in (1mph=5280 feet/h x 5ft tiller width=26,400 sq.ft tilled per hour (without turns) divided into 435,600 sq.ft (10 acres)=16.5 hrs.) I could live with that since the compacts look so fun to work with, but I'd rather spend 3 hrs with a disc a couple of times over and then move on to planting, mowing, etc.) David: thanks for the "try and see" strategy. Guess I could get that NH dealer who wants me buy a TC45/45D a run for his money, see how serious he is. But if I buy the 1500 pound 6-foot disc I like (he wouldn't have one) to try with a Boomer, if it didn't work I'd be stuck with a "little" disc when I purchase a JD5310, NHTN70, or Kubota M6800, which can handle 8 or 10 foot discs no prob. Guys, I want to make this top-end compact thing work, but if nobody has practical experience with my said question above, guess I'll have to take that as a "no", ......and I'd better go buy the 5310/70/6800 and live with more tractor than I need for my 80% time shelterbelt mowing. (Yes, I could custom hire the tillage jobs out and use the compact for everything else, but this would make too much sense and not be enough fun!).

I've run a baler from a TC40D and worked fine. The baler did not have a kicker and I recollect that some locals indicated that a kicker would need an additional 12-18 hp over a normal baler requirement. I've driven a MF275 (65hp) running a baler w/kicker and pulling a wagon with 175 bales. That config used all the available hp when on a slope of 1 degree.

Ok fine, Kubota is a great machine. Thats why I bought this one. The person I bought it from may or may not have known it was Grey market but it dosen't really matter at this point. It was from an add in the paper. My problem is since I don't know what it is in relation to US kubotas I can't find a roll over bar for it. I have checked the links for rops construction but since they are not in my area it makes it sort of hard to order over the internet and get something that may bolt on to my tractor. If there were a good cross reference of non-US tractors to US tractors where we could find out if at least the frame is the same as another I could possibly locate a kubota roll bar to fit.
Any other suggestions?

In the northeast normally the fuel is cut 50/50 with kerosene in the winter. This is normally enough for most tractors. Most injector pumps use the fuel oil to lubricate the pumps and more than 50/50 would sacrifice pump life. In looking for an appropriate additive look for one that displaces water,has a anti-gelling additive and increases pump lubrication and you should be all set.

anissa, try the link below to Tractortips.com and you might find a little information. They show that to be a 17hp (12.5 PTO hp). Probably a good little tractor, but the price seems a bit high to me for a 2WD that small.

In February I bought a new L3710 with hydrostatic transmision, LA681 with heavy duty bucket, folding ROPS and R4 tires for $20,175. If the one you're looking at has the hydro $19,000 seems reasonable. The hydro costs almost $1000 more than the DT (gear) transmission.

I have a used (165 hrs) B1700 HST with LA301 loader. Tractor has loaded turf tires.Also have 6 foot Landpride rake.All equipment was purchased new in July of 96. Tractor was always garaged and is in "like new" condition.I'd like to sell all because landscaping work on new home is completed, and I'm looking to move to the BX series.Would appreciate advice as to worth of tractor with loader and rake.<br>

Part 2<br>Replaced oil on 4100 with 15W40 JD �Supreme Motor Oil PLUS-50� and noticed quart container was similar to container of Amoco Ultimate Gold (manufactured by Chevron). Both containers had same color, shape, size of label, and imprints in bottom of container. Each container also had black ink numbers printed on black plastic in the same location on container, about �� above label. Numbers are different, but same style and type of coloring. Numbers can only be read if you hold the containers at an angle to direct light.<br>Q.4> Is it common knowledge that Chevron makes JD PLUS-50 oil, or is this just errant conjecture on my part?<br>

Klay, yes the fork attachment I have is a JD unit. I want to build a snow plow unit for my 430 and am wondering if there's anywhere to buy just the attachment parts to weld on to a plow I already have for quick attachment. Actually, I'd rather attach a plow right to the front frame without the loader on but can't figure out how to go about it.

I agree that the right oil should be used, but thats the problem - its almost impossible to find the correct data os you have to be creative! For example, my 7275 is a HST drive, which uses a different oil than say a 7270 gear drive, or a JD4300 with gear drive - both in terms of the transmission and hydraulics.

since we have determined it IS a common sump, I have to use those 'tractor transmission/hydraulic oils' Does ANYONE know what API or ISO rating cub wabts the oils to meet?

Cub itself does not have a published std like Case, JD or Kubota. And if cub was not so damn busy trying to rape us on filter/oil prices, we would not be looking elsewhere.

BTW - from an earlier post, that gave wix numbers, I worked backwards and got baldwin numbers:

B227 or B421 for oil

BT260 for HST filter

Its a start, as the hst filter is what I need.....hi ho hi ho off to central tractor I go....

There are less expensive mechanical versions available also, check out the 'Dutchman' line (search 'Dutchman's Tree Spades' on any search engine) they are very well made, reasonably priced units produced in Canada by one of the largest, oldest tree farms here. A word of caution though, a compact will not handle as large a tree as you may think. Carrying dead weight is one thing, tearing it out of the ground (break-out strength) is a whole other matter. We use 3pth tree spades on 40hp class machines (4wd with loaders) regularly in the course of business, anything more than about a 24" root ball is a tough task, this is basically a 3-4" diameter tree. Larger than that is entirely possible, but only with a trailer-mounted unit towed & powered by the tractor. Best of luck & try not to hurt yourself when you fall over after seeing the price of a tree spade.

VT Steve,

The tractor you are considering is a great buy and the size features sound like they will work well for you. It may be a little more than you need but you could spend that much money on a much smaller piece of equipment. Being a little oversized is actually a good thing since you will probably come up with other uses over time that are hard to forsee right now.
