In addition to Bird's comments. Most additives you find in a tractor supply store say something about injector pump lubrication. The less expensive stuff in discount stores usually doesn't. Injector pumps, especially in old tractors, that were engineered before low sulfur fuel probably benefit from extra pump lubrication.

How about using a 3 pt spreader to apply the seed. These only cost about $400. Of course you would still need the tiller and bedsprings, so maybe this wouldn't be much help.

What you need to do first is to honestly evaluate what you will use the tractor for and what size property you will be using it on. Then decide what size implements you need to do the job. On that basis then find out what tractors are capable of handling these implements. Example: I have a 4100 (20 HP) and it is very capable of handling a 4' brushhog, 50" tiller and 5' scraper blade, BUT if I needed to use a 5' brushhog, 60" tiller, or 7' scraper blade then I would personally move up to the 790 (much better buy than a 4200). The used 755 may also be a very good deal if it has been well maintained. The price sounds reasonable. I would put the 755 in the 4100 category. The number of hours on the unit are less significant than the maintenance record. Well maintained diesel tractors should go around 6 to 8 thousand hours before overhaul. Too many people buy tractors without first evaluating their needs and implement needs. Really, the size implement needed should dictate tractor size needed.

I'd ask around. Maybe even advertise. I'd rather see a good old tractor go to a young guy with more time than money.... And can sure remember the time when I would have jumped at the chance to pick up a tractor that only needed some transmission work.

I have a Ventrac 3000 with a 52 inch mower, 30 inch front scoop, & 60 inch blade. I'm impressed on how well it does pushing snow with no weights, chains, or fluid in the tires, just bar tires all the way around.

GL4 is the correct class for trans/hyd fluid, as is iso 32 and 46 (or is it 36 and 42)

straight hyd oil will be 10-30, but the trans/hyd oil is 80W with something lighter added. It still has the same vickers rating on it...

Sounds pretty good to me. I priced NH today and I like the tractors alot even own stock in them but they are little pricy in NW Florida, only one dealer in 150 mile radious. TC 33/R4/ $14900 loader add $3900,TC 35D/R4/$16900 and so on. Loved the features, seat, sway bars etc. Any other pricing from others?

I live in NW Florida and the 790 w/loader industrial tires $14500. I'm trying to decide on it or the Kubota L3010GST a few bucks more but not sure it is worth it.Going to auction this weekend and see what they have to offer.

So then is it safe to say that a hydrostatic transmission is a fairly rugged type of drivetrain? I was worried that the hydrostatic would fail sooner than a gear transmission, but couldn's resist the lure of the super smooth operation, so I bought one. Since then I have had this gnawing sensation that someday down the road I might regret the decision. If there are no clutch packs inside like you would find in the Kubota L35's shuttle shift tranny, I would feel pretty safe.

Unless you wrote wrong and you have a B7200 you must have a grey market tractor.

Steve the service manual for a B-2150 hsd is 125.90 the parts is 7.80. I would drain the front axle first and reinstall new oil. The front end might have picked up some moisture and that might be forcing some oil out the vent.

I looked at the Carver site you mentioned, althought some good information, year models according to the site seems to change according to which group you are talking to. My money is riding on the fact that the manufacture date is stamped on the machine, thus in the future anyone trying to see what year model it is will use that date as an answer. Also the tractor in question would have missed any upgrades or improvements that may have come along since last October. Other opinions appreciated. Thanks

What year did the 140 series start being referred to as International instead of Farmalls?Also where could I find a front blade for one of these?The one we had when I was a boy we had a lot of steering problems,a 1/2 moon key would perodicaly break,I have read that other individuals have problems with the steering,I wonder if this is the same problem?I hope this discussion is not getting away from what this compact tractor board was originally intended for,or would the 140 Farmall/International fall under a compact tractor?

The 2182 Cadet was offered with three point hitch Cat o and rear pto which if equipped will run a tiller from the pto or by it's own engine. It was built from 1990 till 1995. Values are varied of coarse but up to mid 4's depending on how equiped and condition.

After reading everything here and on other sites for weeks, traveling to all the local equipment dealers and corresponding with several members of this group I ended up with a New Holland TC40D tractor with SuperSteer and front end loader, as well as a 6' rotory cutter, 6' finish mower and a post hole auger. I've put a little more than 10 hours on the tractor so far, mainly mowing, and just love it. The dealer has been great (which is one of the reasons I ended up with this particular tractor). The TC40D is overkill for what we plan to do with it, but I'm an engineer, I'm like that. Thanks to everyone for all their help.

THis is a common question. However there is absolutely no evidence to indicate that you should not use synthetics in new equipment. Many people dont like to, such as Mark whose opinion I hold in high esteem. But according to Mobil the oil reduces friction, but does not eliminate it. Also stated was that today's new engines are built differently than older ones and the rings dont have to "seat" in the manner they used to. You , at least in my Kubota manual are asked to use baby your tractor a little in the first 50 hours, that should provide enough runin on synthetic or otherwise. Just my 2 cents

"IF" they aren't any larger than 2" in diameter, I raise the loader up and level the bucket. Push into the SMALL tree. As it starts to lean, lower the loader to help push the tree down. After it is down, back up, place the bucket lip under the exposed roots and push. That should finish taking it out. I have been known to push over 3" trees. BUT, watch over head and keep an eye on your bucket lip. Some buckets that aren't strong enough will bend.
