So back to thinking 600. There are circuit breaker/ fuses up by the voltage regulator. the connections sometimes get rotten. They have little cap type connections and corrode over time.

I have A Cub cadet 5254 4wd shaft driven 574 hours, I purchased it from a fellow this past summer. a couple of weeks ago I decided to change the Hydraulic Fluid for Hydrastatic and Hydraulics Cub cadet calls for their own " Final Drive" lubricant at 50.00 a gallon times 5 takes 5 gallons. I ordered it online from Messicks changed Filter Greased etc. Since doing the Lube Change the Tractor has developed A what sounds like a Revolution "Clunking Noise forward or reverse sounds like something is clunking on the revolution Using diff or Not doesn't matter. I jacked it up today all four tires off the Ground No Noise forward or reverse I didn't have this before I put 5gals of Cub cadet Final drive lube into it Preventative Maintenance, Somebody Please Help Me Please

Dennis,

Drill a hole in the fan housing directly in line with the shear pin hole and then spin the fan and shaft into alignment and use an extra long punch right down though the hole from outside the housing. A pipe wrench on the driveshaft and a block of wood to jam the fan works good for us.

There's three components to power steering, the pump that makes the power, the cylinders that do the work, and the steering column or valve (some are separate) that controls it.

Since you've already eliminated the first two that really only leaves the steering column or valve.

Next your other issue, no, the wheel is NOT supposed to just go around continuously. It should turn far enough to eliminate the free play then get real hard with the engine off, or move the wheels to full lock then bind up with the engine running.

However, if the fluid control portion of it is shot I suppose it would just spin.

I don't know about that unit in particular, most of my tractors are Orange not Green, but the up / down 3pth control lever on most tractors is a round rod that goes through the transmission / differential housing with a threaded hole in the end of it. The lever you grab to move the arms is bolted into that rod. If the bolt or other connection comes loose, the result is exactly what you describe, no resistance on the lever and no motion in the 3pth.

Get underneath the tractor, with the engine OFF, and have a helper move the 3pth lever back and forth and ensure that the entire linkage is moving, not just the lever.

My CASE DX25E (a close relative to your tractor) has the following fuse block: (From left to right standing on the left side of the tractor looking down at the split fuse block, forward to back)

15A Hazard/Horn
20A Alternator/Headlights/Taillights
25A Instrument Panel/Turn Signals/Fuel Pump

5A Safety Control/Brake switch
-- Empty circuit
-- Empty circuit

There is a separate 40-amp fuse (in own fuse holder) between the Starter and Alternator that protects the entire electrical system.

I can't recall if it will flow on its own there. If you have a rubber hose between the tank and pump then you can pinch it off. Spray the shut off at the tank with penetrating fluid and you should be able to work it slowly loose. Its always good to have this working.

It should be, I have a 336d and I think that was plenty, just start the tractor and put the joy sticks in middle position when you check the dip stick.

I am having problems bleeding the injection pump, and injector lines. I believe the air is getting into the system at the primer pump. Any experiences with this primer (booster) pump? When I pump, the diesel squirts up along the shaft, and pressure will not build. If diesel gets out, I am concerned that air gets in along the same path. The bleed plug above this pump does not fill; rather, I continue getting air and a bit of diesel. Most of the diesel comes out at the plunger shaft, as noted above. Primer pump may need to be rebuilt?

Just curious if you were able to solve your steering problem? I also have a 420A and the steering is starting to give me problems. It seems to stop working from time to time, almost like the hydraulic power steering were disengaged, or worse. The wheel just stops turning for a bit, like it is locked. I am suspicious of the hydraulic power unit, Thoughts?

Hi Doug,

Welcome to the board!

The thread you replied to is a flaw years old, but no matter.

The hydraulics for the 3pth are separate from other functions. There is likely a control knob under the seat between your feet as you sit on the tractor. Check that it has not been turned all the way closed. It is meant to control the speed the 3pth goes down at, but if closed all the way will freeze it completely.

For the engine, yes, I agree, but for units with a hydrostatic transmission or even just the hydraulics for the FEL a minute is not enough.

At even just the freezing point the increase in viscosity can cause huge pressure increases in the hydraulic system until a few minutes of flow and friction warm it up enough to thin it out.

Will it crank over? Back in 2000, my newly delivered TC29 blew the fuse near the firewall immediately when I hit the glow plugs, one had shorted out, killing power to the ignition.

Both differentials and your tractor are just that, differentials. That is why you have a differential lock function for the rear axle. Unfortunately because of the steering action they cannot make the front axle lock or you could not turn a corner.

What you are experiencing is completely normal for any MFWD tractor.

Floor should be nice and level, no slope, 3000 PSI Concrete rebar reinforced, no cracks damage. Lot of weight to get underneath, be sure you are buying the best.

Take your voltmeter or 12 volt tester and check your voltage starting at your battery then the wire going to your fuse block then your fuse block fuses. You should be able to track down the problem. Let us know what you find.

We have a 550 XUV with about 180 hours. It is plagued by bad "stationwagon effect", that is exhaust is sucked back into operators area. It has had this since new. Purchased without cab or canopy. Added hard plastic windscreen and fabric canopy--got worse. Opening vent in windscreen helps, but now it's winter. I'm looking at modifying exhaust outlet with an extension or something. This model has a Briggs v-twin and exhaust vents right under bed by hitch. Any ideas?<br>
