I have 4 cylinder 404 and the engine oil can be added in two places. The valve cover and there's a cap on the front of the motor half way down to the left side when sitting on the tractor (which is the easier place to add oil). The injector uses hydraulic fluid and I have a little hand pump oil can to fill it. I fill it by removing the little dip stick and shooting in in there.

I know this is an old post did you get to the bottom of the problem? I had the same thing going along all of a sudden the white smoke and spraying black smutt all over loss of power stop doing what you were doing allow the tractor to idle back to smooth but ot like running over 1,000 rpm.
got a guy out that had the tractor running while he was trying to work out the problem ended up with the ute parked next to the tractor covered in oily black took ages to wash off. Over the phone I suggested that I had heard on this forum somewhere that there were in hose filters, but wasn't trying to tell him how to do his job.
Apparently this was so and once removed the tractor hasn't missed a beat No more white smoke which is usually a sign that there is a new pope at the Vatican and no more black smutt, it wasn't good for the complexion. It was expensive having a mobile mechanic out, but at least in the end nothing had broken and worth considering for anyone that might have a similar problem in the future. kind regards Yozza

You may not need to do this at all if your fuel system hasn't gotten air in it between the injector pump and your injectors. Just try it now and see if it starts up. But if it doesn't, you may need to bleed the air out of your system. <br>

Again this is a easy step. On my fuel system the line leaving the primer pump goes up to the fuel filter. Then from the fuel filter the line goes back down to the injector pump. You could break the fittings slightly loose at any of these points to verify fuel flow to your fuel pump.<br>

In your case since you haven't changed your fuel filter you could just crack the line at the fitting behind the hand primer and unscrew the primer knob several turns counter-clockwise until the pump piston pops up. Then simply pump this piston several times until fuel comes out of the fitting you loosened. Then tighten the line back up and push the piston back down and while holding it down screw it back in by turning clockwise until it gets tight. Then crack the steel line going up to your front injector and turn the engine over until a solid flow of fuel comes out with no air bubbles. Retighten and move to the next injector and then the last one. Crack the steel lines at the top fitting not the ones on the injector pump.<br>

It will probably start when you tighten up the first one but do them all anyway.

You should replace the fuel filters instead of just looking at them. I had a Mercedes that would run just fine until I went up a hill of put a load on it. Turn it off for a few minutes and it would work again. Seems that the filter picked up dirt while fuel was flowing when running and then would fall of when fuel stopped flowing. Never had another problem after replacing the filter.

As another had said, check the piston cylinders. Pull the cover off the side and clean out anything from in there. For some reason here the mice love to build their nests inside my covers when the tractor sits without being used.

If you have a volt meter or a test light you can check at the starter that you have power there. Make Sure that it is out of gear and brakes applied/chocked. You should have power at the large terminal at all times, small terminal when switch is in start position. If nothing then check battery terminals and ground. Another check is to use a remote start switch or heaven forbid a screw driver from the battery terminal on the starter to the small terminal, this should engage the starter.

My tractor has been sitting idle for a week, it has never had a problem starting, and now it will not even make a click when I turn ignition. Nothing. I changed the battery since it was old and checked the fuses. Still nothing. Could this be the solenoid or the starter?

Brian I am having the same issue with my 790, about the same hours, left front gear box. Had the right replaced under warranty when it had about 30 hours, but there were more issues than a leak on the right. Can you advise what you went thru on repair? Thanks Bernie

My 1070 is starting to have problems staying in 4Th gear. It seems like the shifter is hitting the back of the selector housing so it can't fully engage 4th gear. Can anyone tell me how to adjust the linkage?

OK, the supply line from the tank had a hole in it so it was sucking air. I replaced the supply lines and its running OK now. However, I couldnt get it to move. So I got scared and thought the clutch was bad. But after fidding with the F-R lever and the gears it finally moved. Im off to pickup some Hydraulic fluid now.

Not sure how many hours are on the tractor. I had bought it on Ebay from a couple of fellows in Ohio and it was inop. It had a mess of problems when I got it home, injection pump was messed up, injectors buggered up, fuel lines bent up and other problems I try not to think about. When I finally got it running it had lots of blow-by, so much you had to pay close attention to the oil. But it ran well and had lots of power, just hard to start sometimes. I think that someone went heavy on the ether trying to start her. You should never have to use ether on these tractors with it have the decompression lever.

I just replaced the pistons and rings, used the original cylinders, no damage to them. Just ran a hone through them.

Good day all, I am in need of some help with My TD5050 Hydraulic system. The hydraulics has stopped working, to include loader, and any hydraulics, steering is sluggish at anything above Idle. I bought the tractor used 3 years ago, and it is a 2008 model. I changed the hydraulic oil, found metal particles on the Mag plug, so I also changed the hydraulic pump as well. The pressure has improved slightly, but still very sluggish as it was before I lost all hydraulics. Please help.<br>
