I would STRONGLY recommend ONLY using John Deere's Hydraulic fluid; its called Hy-gard. Hydraulic fluid is one thing you definitely don't want to cut cost saving corners on, regardless of the make of the tractor. My family farms about 2,000 acres of corn and soybeans. We have both John Deere and Case IH tractors. My Dad learned this lesson the hard way many years ago. He thought he could save some money and use a generic brand of hydraulic fluid. It foamed up and caused a huge mess. The entire system had to be flushed. I have also heard of other situations where generic fluids, because they lack certain properties, damaging equipment. The viscosity and other elements of a generic fluid could be different than that of the manufacturer's brand. To each thir own, but I would not risk using anything but the fluids sold both manufacturer. For a few extra dollars, you may save yourself a LOT of problems and headaches down the road.

I realize this is an OLD thread. Can anyone tell me what kind of traction the 3000 gets in snow? I have a long driveway that initially starts off somewhat steep from the street then flattens out. I don't usually have an issue with the truck and plow. I'm curious how the 4WD 3000 will do with the snowblower.

You probably have taken action on this by now and no one has commented but I would think you have gear issue in the transmission or either the linkage is not fully engaging into forward.

The gear drive is not as critical as the hydro transmission to the oil or the filter but TSC sure did do a bunch of sacrificing for you on one end or the other to have the same filter for both engine and transmission!!!

Oil pressure should run up to 64 lbs max. The relief valve should be underneath the filter. Typically they are only about 25. for a new one. Your spring may be weak causing the vibration you are talking about.

That is good. Boy need old memory here but think there is speed control on the side of the transmission that may have gotten moved with slide. Also try to see if the draft or position lever was moved out of position. Sure you have checked the fluid level but I would try draining a little to see if the fluid looks fine and not contaminated. I think there is a screen filter there for the pickup but not sure. There were two things I did not like on the 601, the brakes were tough to keep working and not having an overrun clutch both caused me concerns around such as ditches especially when using bushhog.

Have someone work the lever and you watch to see if it rotates the rod for there is a pin or set screw there that could be loose or missing or broken.

I went and checked the buckets I had and it only shows JD 303 on it. The company does not have a web site I could find. Did some checking on this and the best I was able to determine is it probably equals the MF 1129 but those oils are not as good as the new oils and are for equipment from the time frame of your tractor. I bought mind to use in hyd cutter and would not consider in my tractors but their call for newer specs by far.

If you will make a few calls to general tractor shops, oil dealers you should be able to find oil you need. For the amount of oil you need it should not cost you a total of a lot more to go with a higher grade oil.

Very much agree with you comment on this site compared to some with "high" traffic. Will visit one like from time to time and totally agree.

Had you tried opening the fuel tank to see if that helps, could be vent system clogged. It is not running hot is it? You did change the air filter also? With bush hogging check for trash in the intake and radiator. Another possibility is the gear box on the cutter is low in oil and it is running hot and getting hard to turn.

you could always look up the grade bolt that it is and go by a normal tourqe, could you please let me know where you got a head gasket for the 220-4? i am looking for a kit but cannot find and head gaskets for it, if you know where i can get a head gasket or kit, let me know thanks again

The best way!!!! Block up the loader from underneath the bucket, normally two short 6x6's on top of each other will work to cover loader drop. Get to the hardware store, by the widest flashing, more then 12 " wide, cut flashing in lengths that will go from the floor vertically up the tires and drill both overlapping ends for type of fastner on the top. Normally a zip tie or bolt will work fine.

It may take a few minutes to get set-up but it does work.

First I agree with "auerbach".

Kirkdspain, is it possible to switch the use of the two solenoids to see if they solves your problem? A solenoid is normally a very simple part, electrical coil that pulls or pushes a plunger as electricity is applied. So if a solenoid then would either be the coil has failed or a seal has failed. Would think reasonable DIY to check. If you can apply power to it with the tractor off you may have here it working. Can you check the coil to be sure it has not burnt out? Do you have a volt meter? If you do then pull one of the leads off of it and place leads between the solenoid and that lead. If the coil is good it will read voltage (should be same as system) if coil is bad it will not read voltage as the circuit is broken. You can use test light same way. If the coil test ok then try listening for the plunger's movement. You may be able to rest hand on it lightly and even feel it. Does the solenoid control hyd oil? If yes the be very careful in breaking the line to see if it is letting the fluid through. If you do be sure to place rag over the fitting to control the fluid so it can not hit you with high pressure stream.

One thing I found on my Long was that there was a pin hole in the Hydraulic pickup line where the rubber hose connected the pickup tube to the filter housing.
I could not figure out why my oil kept looking like it has water in it.
I ended up just putting about half a quart in a glass jar and sealing the lid. I marked the level with a sharpie.
left over night, the milky color left and the level dropped about 1/2 inch. not water, air. I found the hole and replace the hose with fuel transfer hose. I also found sharp edges on the pick up tube that caused the pin hole.
no leaks because the hole was on top.
