I don't know much about Long tractors. I've only seen one before. If you have a manual transmission, it's possible to pull start the tractor. You don't need a starter.

Get the engine warmed up. Use a space heater, torpedo kerosene heater, or your electric block heater. Now energize your glow plugs for one or two cycles. Once the engine is ready to go, have somebody help you pull start the tractor.

Put your manual transmission in high gear. Putting the tractor in high gear is important, as this will allow the engine to spin over much easier. Turn your key to the run position. Get going down the driveway and then let the clutch out. After a few spins on the engine it should start right up for you. QUICKLY depress the clutch once the tractor is started, as you don't want to run over the vehicle that is towing you.

You can now use your tractor as you normally would. Don't shut off the tractor until you have it parked where you want it for service work.

Thanks for reaching out to Roger Loving. He was one of the great experts in the early days of Tractorpoint with thousands of informative posts. He really knew so much about tractors!

He is still with us in spirit as his last post was over 12 years ago, though I would love to be surprised with a post by him saying the rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated :-)

I would contact my John Deere Dealer and ask for a print out of the clutch removal First. Then follow Directions.

Did you have any luck? Just saw your post and have thought about doing the same with other utv's. I would recommend a true cogged belt, v-belt, or chain drive between your motor and the trans. If you know the top speed of your motor, you could work backward to arrive at appropriate pulley sizes or sprocket ratios to get an adequate top speed. (turn trans input shaft and count revs of the shaft to revs of the wheels, measure circumference of tires and calculate revs/mile, multiply x 60 (mins/hour) and that will tell you how many rpm/mph you need on the input shaft. then adjust your ratio to suit. electrics don't usually need a clutch or much gear reduction. The stock belt is made for the variable speed torque converter and it might be hard to get it to work as is.

I think there is a small tube like that for the gas tank vent. Points down and open on the end.

If it will idle/run with the choke partly on it is probably the pulse fuel pump. My first one failed when the CX was still under warranty. Since then I have replaced it 2-3 times on a 2008 CX.

When they start to go usually it occasionally won't idle without the choke or loses power while driving though many times it will run fine all day or for several days- problem just reoccurs more often with time as the pump weakens. Fortunately it is a fairly cheap part and takes about 10 minutes to replace. Sits on top of the engine with 3 hoses going to it.

I keep thinking some day I will find a little electric pump to replace it but it's failure rate is not quite annoying enough.

BTW they do sell rebuild kits but unless you have some kind of jig to hold it you'll never get it back together again.

I think I paid $40 for the last one and there are even cheaper plastic bodied ones. Common part.

Of course your problem could be just stale gas or dirty fuel filter/carb. I've never had a problem with the carb but I replace the fuel filter regularly. I've also never had a problem with "stale" gas even though sometimes it doesn't get much use in the winter.

Need some help. Have a Gator CX with a Kowasaki Motor. Wife used it yesterday and afterwards couldn't keep it running. Idle would drop way down to the point it would stall out. Went in to look at it and possibly adjust idle screw. Found a plastic tube (vacuum hose?)with a small (tiny) hose clamp on one end and the other end of the tube is larger and more rubbery in texture. Tubing is clear. Where does that end go to? anyone with any ideas is greatly appreciated.

It's nice to see it back in one piece. It's also nice that you now have a good understanding of the entire machine, making future repairs a whole lot easier for you. Hopefully you'll never have to work on the engine again. Great work!

Sounds like your clutch return spring is broken. It's on the clutch pedal.

For what it's worth. I'm having a issue with the clutch engaging. I think have some roughness on the splines on the input shaft and it's binding there. When summer gets here I'll break the tractor and see what's going on.

On youe multi-valve you have a pressure line in, pressure line out and a by-pass line out. From what you said you move your remote valve just in the right position to allow flow to 3pt. cylinder otherwise it's directing the flow thru the by-pass. I'm thinking from your discrption the problems in the remote valve, if it was in the 3pt. it wouldn't work no matter what postion the remote valve is in. Have any of the loader lines been diconnected and re-connected? A switched line here can cause the 3pt to not work.

Of all the implements I own, the one I use the most often is the 3-point landscaping rake.

The owner of the local motel has a pea-gravel parking lot. She's fussy about her carpets and doesn't like tar and heavy oils being tracked into her motel rooms, so she went with pea gravel.

The parking lot at the motel requires frequent maintenance. The landscaping rake does a fantastic job of it. I turn the rake around and drag it backwards, with the tines facing rearward. This allows the gravel to free-flow through the tines without carrying any gravel along with me.

Winter parking lot clearing results in gravel being moved over into the grassy lawn areas. This is a real pain for the people who do the mowing. Here again the rake performs well. Simply angle the rake to make it act more like a blade, and watch the gravel move from the grass back to the parking lot. It takes a few passes, but it works great and the mowing company loves me.

By far the best thing about the rake is when trimming hedges. Simply drop your hedge trimmings on the ground next to the hedges, then drag the rake to gather them all up. It takes just minutes to clean up after trimming nearly a 1/2 mile of hedges at the local cemetery.

The rake works great for removing tree bark and wood chips left over from processing firewood. It works extremely well for gravel driveway maintenance, as well as lawn dethatching, gathering fallen leaves, twig removal after a heavy wind, etc.

I recently started cleaning up bank parking lots, and other business places after a long winter of winds blowing in debris up against fences, or being piled up by the snow removal crews. Not only does it clean this stuff in a hurry, it also makes the grass grow back greener and thicker than ever before.

I make far more money with my tiller than I do any other implement, but the rake gets used the most. It is my favorite implement and I continue to find new projects for it.

[/QUOTE]According to TractorData.com Cabela's tractor are rebranded TYM tractors. TYM is a South Korean company that assembles their tractors in the USA. I don't know how true that is as the tractor that I looked at when I was at Cabela's had a label that stated it was manufactured in China, thereby causing me to lose all interest in them.
